  1. Yeah I get it. Our drummer uses a riser which puts his crash cymbal directly at my ear level. Especially unfavorable in small venues where our 9 pc band is crowded on top of each other!
  2. Learning a new song: Me: 3 chord blues in A. . . Lead Guitarist: What are the other two?
  3. That overlaps with another whole category "Endless Guitar Solos"; also capable of driving one nuts. . . e.g. Freebird,, Comfortably Numb to name a couple
  4. My interpretation is that the cows were jamming until the farmer showed up. Then they hurriedly returned to their positions as being cows so as not to be caught jamming.
  5. So this is about the poor sap who fell off the cruise ship in the gulf last week. After being rescued, he was interviewed and asked how he stayed conscious and survived in the water for 10 hours, he replied that he would sing to himself. What he sang, with modified lyrics, was "(I wish I was) Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay . . . . unbeliveable!
  6. After playing with a band for nearly two years, I reluctantly had to resign. Musically the band was one of the best of my career. And the bandmates, save one, were great talented guys and easy to work with. When I auditioned I made it clear I had other obligations. Family of course, and also another band that gigged only about 10 times each year. I could only commit to 2 to 3 additional gigs per month. I was assured that would not be a problem. As time went on, the BL/rhythm guitar (who had some big balls calling himself a musician!) began a campaign to prove how good he was at landing gigs. Before long he was booking 2 to 3 gigs per week. Some of which I was unavailable. For that, I got "Fine! We're going without you." The rest of the band was not necessarily in favor of that but went along for the money. Had no choice but to resign. Did I give a reasonable notice? Not a chance! You can play without me!
  7. Major vendors, GC, Sweetwater, has been showing backordered for months and still are. I reserved a copy in February and finally cancelled in July and settled for the CP8. Where did you order them from?
  8. I pre-ordered one of the backordered QSC powered speaker series, the K8.2 from Musician's Friend. Backordered 'til May, then June, now July. So I canceled the MF order yesterday and almost ordered the CP8 from MF instead, until despite the delivery of one week indicated on the web site, the rep I was chatting with said delivery would be end of June. Meantime I checked delivery of a CP8 from SameDayMusic. 2 day Free shipping. I placed the order with SDM. As with many of my previous SDM orders it will arrive the next day, today. Their warehouse is in NJ and I am in CT making the one day turnaround possible. So now the question is will I be satisfied with the performance? Well I have 45 days to figure that out. I have 3 gigs over the next 2 weeks with 2 different bands, two of which are outdoors. So that should be enough to make an assessment.
  9. I found them a while ago. Truly amazing! Often sounding even more like the bands they were covering!
  10. Thanks guys for all the suggestions! After reading them, particularly the bass response, I am still debating which direction to take. Luckily a bandmate has a couple of K82s we use for vocal monitors. Best way to test is a live gig. So maybe we'll swap my K12 for one of his K8s for a night to see if that is what I am looking for. If so, I may contact you Scott. However I think I want just one and not the pair. I am in CT, but on the other side near RI border. It's about a 2 hr drive to NY border.
  11. Hi, I would like to downgrade (for weight sake) from a K12 to K8.2. Being very satisfied with the 12, the QSC is a natural choice for me. Of course none are available anywhere due to pandemic/supply chain/paused manufacturing, etc. . . So I am debating waiting it out or accepting a comparable substitute. Suggestions? Thx!
  12. Regarding the popularization of the Hammond, the list should also include Greg Allman and Jon Lord
  13. Well, as a last resort maybe for solo keyboardists, there's the transpose button. If not appropriate, then how about this? Sure, he/she can sit in. We rehearse on Wednesday's. Send him/her down for a test run. . . .
  14. I tend to follow what I call the "chameleon effect" to blend in with environment: i.e. the rest of the band and the venue. In one of my bands, the leader requested all wear Hawai'ian shirts. (if you didn't own one, one would be provided). This is a 60's 70's band mostly outdoor gigs for fundraising and the like. The other band is more of a club band where the level of fashion is commensurate with the club. Typically all black or "designer shirts" (i.e. for lack of a better term, those that are not "button down office shirts")
  15. Something like that would be nice! Until then, I have a simpler solution. I gather all cords and attach them to one leg of my stand with velcro straps. That at least looks organized and reduces the sloppy spaghetti condition.
  16. I modified this stand with two assemblies shaped like letter F on their side. The assemblies were made from 1" square aluminum and only required two holes drilled into the stand . With the F assemblies on their sides my Hammond sits on the long section of the F. With this method of course, there is no height or tilt adjustment. That's OK for me. I made sure the Fs were dimensioned so the distance between the two boards was right for me. And I prefer the Hammond sits flat like a console rather than tilted. I could not paste a jpg here and failed at pasting a link from our website. So here's a link to our website gallery. https://www.mojo-rhodes.com/gallery There are two images showing the F's at around 1/3 down the page and again about 3/4 down the page.
  17. Hi, Chord pattern is pretty straight forward for most of the song, but I am struggling with the short organ fill at 00:13 and 00:21 in the YT vid below. I've seen it written from some online sources as D to A, B to D, B5to D5. None of which sounds right to me. Not sure if the chords are incorrect or maybe I just have the voicings wrong. Any suggestions? BTW, don't recall ever seeing a 5 suffix on a chord symbol. What does that mean? Thanks for all suggestions!
  18. Good to hear a vote for the On-Stage stand! That's the one I bought. Last night was it's debut and it worked out perfectly!
  19. As for the rolling bag, not a bad suggestion but I already have the QSC bag for the 12. So I was considering a collapsible hand cart from one of the home improvement super stores. That would eliminate adding 12 lbs or so which of course makes the lift in and out of the car more of a challenge. And there is another issue I want to ease. I use a speaker stand placed to my side. It's lowest position it is 48". I stand and sit to play, but the sitting position is high, almost standing, so it is at about ear level. I ordered a mini stand with a height range of 24-48. That'll eliminate the 4 ft lift to the stand. It'll sit a little lower but still be in a good enough position to serve the purpose. Thanks again for all the recommendations!
  20. Yes I have considered the 10.2 especially after reading the comments on this forum. But as I mentioned earlier, I went shopping only to find all 3 versions, 8,10, and even 12 are backordered on all the major vendors. IIRC ebay had 1 or two used, but I prefer to go with new. So the effort is on hold until the supply chain crisis is solved.
  21. Thanks for all the advice! Shlep is my driving force, but from what I've read here the K8.2 would probably not work for me. My bands are loud rock. And I want to keep it to just one to shlep. Many of the posters here use a pair. A pair kind of defeats the shlep factor. Reezekeys, I did not know of the .2's until I started shopping. And that when south fast because all the major vendors are backordered K8.2, 10.2 and 12.2. So at least for now I will probably stick with the K12 I have.
  22. I am currently using the K12 as a stage monitor, but in the effort of lightening up, I am considering downgrading to a K8. But I was concerned that it may not perform to the level I am used to with the K12. Anyone using a K8 (or equivalent) as a monitor? Is the sound quality satisfactory for Rock and Roll? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  23. Tried to search but got the message I do not have permission to use the search. Something going wrong with that function. (Yes I was logged in.)
