The song is called Rag, and can be found here: http://angelfire.lycos.com/rock2/3songs ------------------------------ Macle, This song reminds me of the old joke: Q: What is the difference between an armed terrorist and and woman with PMS? A: You can negotiate with the terrorist. I think that Rag is a good bubblegum record. I especially like the choruses. The background vox are very nice. There is a fair amount of pop clutter in the choruses that I really like. I wish the verses could be as appealing. I like the first one, with the mellotron strings and flutes. When those double time drums happen, though, they feel like a distraction. I wish there was a way to simplify it. The lyrics are clever. The lead vox is good. Overall, I like it. I hear what you're saying about the second verse drums. Someone else mentioned that to me, too. Will try remixing those out. Also glad you think the lyrics are clever. Was a bit paranoid about that. When we first wrote this (my girlfriend and me), someone told us the subject matter was a really bad idea. I really appreciate your checking it out, and thanks very much for the feedback!! Stanley, http://www.mp3.com/Stanley_Sagov I listened to: "Latin Tinge"- laid-back Chick "Double Meaning"- Tasty lead synth playing "Neo-Neon Miles"- sounds like Bitch's Brew. Miles' band on a good night! "Pre-Meditation Blues"- Weather Report on a blues tip. I like the way that you play the drum, sax, and trumpet sounds. Good emulation of live players. In fact, I'd love to hear these songs with a live band. I'll listen to some more after the weekend. Great Job! --Rob

It's weird what offends people sometimes. I think Rag is rather tender! I checked out your tune. Great rocknroll sound! The drums are really cool and authentic sounding, like an old Rolling Stones song (are those samples?) Cool effect on the vocal, too. Perfect for gyrating strippers!! Hey all....I am looking for mix feedback and suggestions on my songs - at either web site...particularly on the songs "Glide" and "Dawn" - these are works in progress that I threw up to share with some folks - but I am not as happy as I could be with the way the mixes are sitting. Other good songs on the sight are "Yours" and "Sorority Girls" - which is in the top ten on the pop chart at Broadjam.com - and if you want a little comic relief "No Longer Poor". Give it to me straight - all comments welcomed!! Really dig your first tune. Kinda spanks of '80s with a bit of a "Japanese Pop" flare. What do I know? The 3rd tune 'Michelle' had an early '60s touch which is nice. Of course the content: a woman kills a man with a hammer. Well let's just say I won't let my wife hear this one. What kind of gear did you use to make your music? OK Mark, I finally had a chance to listen to your music. Good songwriting...the mixes sound very thin but I think the main reason for that is the drum machine...all of the instruments could be more present IMO, especially the guitars. The vocal sounds great but kinda alone. Other than that I don't have much to say just that I enjoyed it. My favorite is Sorority Girls...cool vocal This message has been edited by Steve LeBlanc on 08-31-2001 at 05:28 PM

I agree that everything sounds way too thin on a lot of those mixes - not sure what all you listened to, but Sorority Girls is one of my 4 track cassette projects from about 8 years ago - the song is such a hoot that I had to throw it up. A few of the songs that are up there are going to be remixed/retracked as the techniques I am learning in the studio improve - a lot of those tips I am learning here!!!! After much mental contemplation inspired by the "What's music got to do with performance anyway" thread, I set about doing some projects where my sampled bass and drum tracks are built on real performances rather than sequenced. I just finished the first one: Living Without Your Love http://www.csonline.net/wfturner/LivingWithout.html I probably will find myself using the sequencer very little now as I feel after my first attempt that I definately have a recording that has more of a feel for a vision of how a live on stage performance of the tune might be. Note: I'll post the mp3.com page when it gets approved. Lo-fi mp3 definately blows real audio out of the water. http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/1842/1842762.html ------------------ William F. One of my songs "Sorority Girls" is in the Pop Top Ten at Broadjam.com!!! I don't know exactly how this works, but I think it is based on artists reviews which you get to read - and then probably review by Broadjam staff. Who cares - it doesn't mean anything - but it kind of means a lot! The song is a real lark - one of my 4 track experiements from ten years ago - but it is fun if you have ever actually had any experience with Sorority Girls! Check it out and let me know what you think http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 or listen at... http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

The smart ones would really "get" your song. Others would be, "Like what's he mean? Like, don't even think about asking ME out, I'm a Alpha Lambda Jabba....". Nice job with your 4 track experiment. Macle96, don't know if you're still out there, but I'd like to report on your song "Rag". First, let me say that I think your voice has a decidedly euro/raspiness to it that I really enjoyed. Lyrics are solid and singing is expressive. However, that massive burst of sudden tempo change just ruined it for me. The music was still "there"; the singing and phrasing were as well; it was mainly the agressive percussive edge that drove me nuts. Search by my name and you'll find my gear list; it's quite low-budget. A R0de NT2 is the nicest piece of gear I own. Thanks for the positive feedback. More songs have been posted. Also, watch out for a tune called "A Toni Bologna" ------------------ http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/292/izzy_epstein.html
