Is Your Music Any Good? Find Out Here!!

Recommended Posts

Well, I've heard this in several of my posts about my gear & stuff. People always say, do the best with what you have. . . if the muswic sucks, no amount of equipment is going to help. WELL, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO LET ME KNOW IF IT'S WORTH IT. This music was done entirely at home, with lots of cheezy gear. I played all of the instruments myself, except for some female vocals that my wife did. I know that you can't tell much about engineering and production values from a compressed MP3 file, but you CAN tell me if the music sucks. BE BRUTALLY HONEST WITH ME. . .I can take it. Besides, you can always hide behind computer anonymity. . . ------------------ http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/292/izzy_epstein.html

Okay, well my MP3 site was finally approved - and the first track I uploaded is actually one my project band did quite a while ago. New music we are working on now will go up as we complete. "Yours" is a pop R&B tune with a male vocal and stacked male vocal harmonies which were a lot of fun to do. Let me know what you think - all comments are welcome http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

Thanks for the comments Halljams. As we do this longer we are trying to get better so it's good to hear some critiques. A lot of the things you were talking about are things I've become more aware of from recording. BTW Cool story about the slide part.

I loved the aggressive bass sounds you got (let us know how you tracked the bass). The only criticism would be that the vocals to my ear seemed behind the rest of the mix - I wanted to hear them more upfront - sitting on top of the power groove going on underneath, not mixed in with the rest of it. Great job overall Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

You know what? I absolutely agree about the vocals not being up front enough. Maybe I'll remix it & post again. Thanks for saying you like the song. My wife is truly flattered that many of the people like her song. The bass was tracked like this: A Charvel Jackson active bass>>>>Mackie1202VLZ>>>>Cubase>>>>Waves RCL ------------------ http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/292/izzy_epstein.html

Gustrax, man I'm listening to El Chaka, Chaka as I type this and digging. Cool variation on the dance thing. Could picture dancing like a mo fo at some dive in Cancun. Two new songs at my broadjam site - These are both from my 4 track days - I am working on completing newer projects now "Sorority Girls" is a tongue in cheek ballad of a plaintive girl wishing she could be a sorority girl - check out the great guitar solo and oberheim synth response dialogue in the bridge. "Mother" is a Christian song inspired by the incredulous news reporters trying to dismiss various miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary. All comments, good, bad and indifferent are more than welcome. http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

I just put some new music up on my MP3 site - "Glide" is a work in process but this is the latest version - I am thinking it needs something but I can't put my finger on it - any suggestions? http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

Well, it's probably hype - but I'm excited One of my songs "Sorority Girls" just made the Pop Top 10 on broadjam.com -probably something they run everybody through at random intervals to make them feel better but what the hell - indie no name artists like me have to feel good about something http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 To my ears it is a pretty dated sounding (80's) ballad - and I recorded it 7 or 8 years ago - but IMHO the guitar solo in the bridge is killer. Any and all feedback, good or bad is welcomed Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

Last night's Improv Jam recorded live to CD, just Rhodes and Drums. At times comical...some sections are just magical. The jam has 3 basic movements each with it's own bit of personality. The Vocal is more for added melodic color than anything...it's pretty rough. Enjoy: "Rhodes and Drums Duet"(approx. 12MB) http://www.artistlaunch.com/jamfree

More carnage from Chiaroscuro...our new three song demo has been uploaded to mp3.com. The new tracks are the three at the bottom of the page (The Lonely Place, Fireflies, and Drift). This was my first sojourn with my VS-1880, and I made a lot of stupid mistakes while learning how to use the machine, but I am reasonably proud of the results. I think the vocals may be a little undermixed at times...I'll be curious to hear what some of you have to say. Ian http://www.mp3.com/Chiaroscuro Chiaroscuro @ mp3.com

Mozart, I listened to "Mother" on broadjam. Very contemporary music you're making there. Sounds very mainstream Christian contemporary. While it's not my favorite type of music, the production sounds very well done, and the singing is both articulate and pleasant sounding. Nice to kow their are other Christian musicians on the forums. (Sometimes one wouldn't think so) Keep up the excellent work. The music sound very commercially viable for your genre; Have you sold many records? If not, you should be. There's a great niche out there for Christian contemporary stuff. Keep it up. Allen
Allen, Thanks for listening and for your kind feedback. I really haven't focused on Christian music as a genre - my music is pretty eclectic from a "genre" standpoint - - but a lot of it has a social or political message even if it isn't an overtly Christian one. In fact a lot of the feedback I get on my music is that the lyrics are too politically intense in some songs and this is a distraction. I got that exact feedback on "Mother" from two reviewers at Broadjam. One of my songs just made the Pop Top Ten and the Mix Magazine Top Ten on Broadjam - "Sorority Girls" - and this will demonstrate how eclectic I can get since this song is a sarcastic little tune all about a girl who isn't pretty enough to be in a sorority - great fun!!! I am streaming "We all have the Power" from your site now - and this is some seriously cool funk. If you have a CD let me know. This reminds me of what used to be on album oriented radio in the late sixties, early seventies and, man, do I miss turning on the radio and hearing something seriously cool. Oh well, maybe Britney will find some soul before I lose mine Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 or listen at... http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

AmadMozart,
I tried listening to "Rhodes and Drums Duet" but I am in a DSL free zone and my 56K modem kept timing out.
That sucks, I really feel for you...I don't know what I'd do without my DSL...I get the majority of the music I listen to from the internet and often stream it while working. There is a download option on the site but you'll probably want to choose some of the shorter tunes. I'm glad you enjoyed "We Have The Power," it's kind of a simple tune lyrically and it was recorded on an 8track MiniDisc in a hot garage about 3 years ago. We want to do more tunes like that, you know less chops more taste...I intend to record every style/feel that's in me before I'm done. Thanks for the kind words...I have to run right now but will listen to and comment on some of your music tonight or tomorrow. Peace, Steve

I was recently commissioned, in a manner of speaking, to do a song for a tavern not far from where I work. It is to appear on their jukebox. The place is called CND. It is a greasy sort of place but friendly to blue collar workers and video post-production people, alike. In fact, when someone leaves the company I work for, we have a party for them there. They used to have "fashion shows" there on Fridays. A couple of local stripper-types would parade around in lingerie. You could buy raffle tickets and win the clothes off their backs. Don't ask... Anyway, I finished the thing and wanted to hear reactions before I hand it in. Remember, it is to be played on a jukebox in a smokey little bar in Chicago. http://home.att.net/~bblash/cnd.mp3 This message has been edited by Bruce Lash on 08-27-2001 at 11:24 AM

Here's a link to a real player version, which unfortunately ruins the sound a bit. I'll check out your stuff as soon as I can. http://www.geocities.com/macle96/ Thanks, Macle
