Stanley Sagov Dude you're insane , I listened to "Science Faction" and "Hope for Piece 3" today. "Hope for Piece 3" was the most impressive...great programming, nice chord voicings...very cool. "Science Faction" is also wonderfully done...my only critique on this one is IMO you should lose the Handclaps...they're the least unique sound in the piece and really distracted my ears. Great stuff. Henry 8x8, Nice Bass playing...you could pump up your recording volume a bit but doesn't sound bad considering the way you recorded it.
Originally posted by Steve LeBlanc: heh, well my feelings about the Bush family are long and winded so I won't get into that here... It is almost irrelevent in this piece because none of the beginning was arranged...it's all completely random...I couldn't even hear the Soundbites when I was playing...didn't even know they were there, my brother was playing with buttons, I didn't know. Makes it that much more creepy to me . Anyway, thanks for checking it out. I'll have a listen to your new stuff ASAP, looking forward to it. Peace, Steve
No problem, bro...if you do check out anything on my site - I am looking for mix feedback on "Song for Grace" - I think it is up on my sites - downloadable from the MP3.com site. I tried several different things in the mixing mastering process - one in particular was a very light multi-band comp (Waves C4) during mastering. This tune was written by my bassist - kind of a Phil Collins sort of thing - not as much what I write - but it was a production challenge for me since it is the sound he wanted. Anyway, have a go, and everyone else too - damn, but I am looking for something usefully critical especially if there is something in there that distracts you or grates you or drives you insane. Of course if you love it that's fine, but being the paranoid musician I am I won't believe the praise nearly as quickly as I'll take the criticism Cheers, Mark ------------------ http://www.broadjam.com/artistprofile/artistindex.asp?artistID=936 or listen at... http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/mark_coming_project.html

Hey Mark, I'll try to check it out this weekend...my speakers here at work aren't too much good for critical listening. Here's a tune that reflects my feelings lately...no fantastic chops or anything just emotion: "Sorrow for Today" (1.9mb) http://www.artistlaunch.com/sleblanc

Mark, I listened to your tune and like it a lot...I'll try to comment fully later tonight or tomorrow when I have a bit more time. We improvised this last Friday Night 10/19/01 at about 2AM. I added a fun Bass part (with a Solo) today in my Garage. It doesn't really have lyrics just Emotional Singing using some words. I'm not much of a Freestyle lyricist but the intent is there so it's real. Here's the, er, "lyrics":
The tide is beginning to Turn My Arms are wide open to change...can't keep running from our Shame. Might be hard sometimes...might not like what you see. The Truth is all around ya...plain as can be. Watching TV the other day...that's all I see. Paranoia and Pain that's Real...how to Differentiate from Insanity. But Tommorrow things can get better. Gotta Believe because he needs me so..my Son you know. We've got to be Free some time. Don't take Freedom for Granted...we could lose it any day. It's happened before...sure to happen again...Somewhere, or right now in front of your nose. Over THERE, just maybe over Here.
They don't really mean anything...just an emotional release. "Freedom" (7mb) http://www.artistlaunch.com/jamfree

Johnny. I really liked "Heaven" and "Right Back". I also really like the vocal sound and the AC gtrs. How were they recorded? The vocal has nice "not-overly-compressed" quality that is refreshing. It sits on top of the mix well while still letting the track through. Frank

Frank, i listened to your tune; shut your mouth. As always, i was impressed by how professional your stuff sounds. Your songwriting is a treat. I really really dig the way you go the extra mile with the harmony, especially some of the bass notes you get in there, makes it so much more colorful than without, and i dig your taste. Your guitar playing is top notch. I have never been a fan of the shred thing but you seem to be able to get elements of it in there without going overboard, and your delivery is outstanding ,time, tone and execution. Great stuff man! Ps. i still want more vocal presence somehow,It sounds a bit scooped and it is down in vol from most tunes, so it is hard to make out. If it has anything to do with not likeing your voice or something, you need not frett, you sing great, have interesting mature lyrics and have a cool voice to boot, so lets hear it. JH

Just listen to "It's all about you" , I have to say I really like the backing , sounds very beatels to me... and when those stings comes in towards the end it's a real James Bond feel. Not bad at all !! I have to say that it does seems like the lead disappear sometimes, but it could be due to mp3 quality. Nice track :D

You're probably right about the lead disappearing. I always seem to have a hard time with vocals and guitars and junk fighting for the same space. Thanks again, Macle http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/3songs
Originally posted by spigots: Macle, Great tune. My only nit pic is the sound of the cymbals. A little to crispy for me. Could also be the mp3 quality. You're getting rather adept at weaving your Beatle-esque tendencies in and out of your tunes. Frank
Hi Frank, thanks!! The crispy cymbals might also be because of my "mastering" that I do for posting ( some EQing and some compressing and some limiting, plus, of course, the mp3ing). I suppose I shouldn't cuz I'm sure I'm doing more damage than good. I do always have the feeling, though, that the high end of my stuff is real harsh. Thanks a lot for checking this one out, Macle http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/3songs

Okay...I need some help...critical - and I mean critical mix feedback on Song For Grace. This song was written by my bass player (he writes one song a year) and he is driving me nuts because we have mixed this thing a million times and after each mix he runs it out to some different person and harangues them until they give him some feedback on how to improve/change the mix - then he rings me up and says - we have to remix it because so and so said...blah blah blah blah....it is driving me crazy. So...without telling you what anyone's feedback has been - I want to get a few comments from this great body of folks and see if any of your comments resemble any of the non-professional suggestions my very insecure bassist is getting from everyone from his mother-in-law (no shit) to his shrink (also no shit). If I am going to remix this yet again - I want it based on input from people who do this for a living and people who have aren't biased due to being badgered by the artist. Please help....Song For Grace can be found at either site listed below. Cheers and thanks in advance. Mark

Cut back on the chorus effects and add some bite. 3. Mix felt right heavy. PNO and GTR on same side, playing in the same freq range. 4. Your "MIX" is not the problem, if you know what I mean... Frank

would love some feedback on the tune "Radio Babble", which is at the URL that is my signature at bottom of this post. It is an electronic song, little bit retro, with voice samples from a recent holiday to NY. Regards Dave

Sort of reminds me of The Ramones, and maybe a little Dylan (Subterranean Homesick Blues, kinda). The recording sounds clear as a bell, and the guitar is rockin'!! Great job, Lee! Macle

Thanks halljams, yeah, that's one of the tweaks I need to do is the bass needs to come up a bit and the guitars are a little too hot in places. And yes, I'm totally nuts about our drummer. :D Glad you liked it too Macle! I'm gonna go listen to your latest one today too. :) --Lee
