  1. I used to do summer gigs out on a pier out on a bay - many evenings I experienced the same. So I started bringing a fabric-backed plastic tablecloth to cover my rig between sets, and a few terrycloth hand towels to keep wiping it down between songs. When I got home I would put the board in front of a fan in an air conditioned room for a day or two. Never had a problem.
  2. For me it was the lead singer showing up very drunk and belligerent for a high profile gig. I"m done, thanks. Shame... as they were quite a terrific band otherwise.
  3. I came across a Yamaha 512mb expansion board with the Chick Corea EP set (think it was called the Anniversary set?) in new packaging on Ebay a few years back. I love it... it really added a lot to the board. With that, the stock sounds and the Organimation B3 set it made the MOXF6 a perfect rehearsal/jam rig and great top tier gigging board.
  4. Yes indeed, Scott - the action on the Vox is terrific for piano. I really like the longer keys, too.
  5. +1 on Alto Music... great store and very knowledgable staff. It"s definitely worth the drive. Last time I was there (pre-pandemic) they had a really well-stocked keyboard department, and I was able to check out lots of boards. For what it"s worth, I have both the Vox Continental 73 and Nord Electro 6. I prefer the pianos and EP"s on the Vox, but when I need B3 sounds, I use the Nord. Hope this helps!
  6. I played a C1 for many years, often with an R&B/Soul band. Since I only needed piano on one or two song per gig with them, sometimes I"d just leave the piano home and midi up to a piano module. I configured the top manual to control it... and it worked out quite well. I could still do organ on the lower manual. I sold the C1 because it was just too heavy for me to transport as often as I needed to - and really do miss it. I just loved the action and feel...
  7. I picked up a few pair of these Philips at a closeout store a few years ago and think they"re really comfortable with pretty decent audio quality. I"m pretty clumsy and invariably wind up damaging or losing them after about six months. So at $13-20 a set I don"t feel so bad. I use them much more than the Apple buds or my WiFi buds.
  8. I miss the days when we could just run down to Radio Shack for things like this...
  9. I did the same with an electric guitar I was upgrading. Did you check the Stew-Mac site? They had a pot with the longer threaded bushing I needed.
  10. A modified 3. After too many unpleasant experiences with inconsiderate patrons at theaters, I just stopped going out to movies in 1997. I don"t miss it. Instead I bought - and will occassionally upgrade - my big screen TV and surround sound system, and I watch movies on Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO, Showtime or On Demand. So far there"s been nothing I"ve wanted to see that I couldn"t wait for it to show up on one of these platforms.
  11. +1 for PVC! With apologies for bringing up the dreaded X-stand... for years I had two sections of PVC pipe with 90 degree endcaps that I mounted horizontally across the back and onto the bars of an X-stand - top and bottom - locking it in place. Sprayed matte black, they looked really good and made for a surprisingly solid and stable platform for larger boards. Eventually I got of carrying them around and moved on.
  12. Nice video, Al - very tasty playing! Thanks for posting. (And BTW, I"m STILL using your old sub-woofer!)
  13. With an 8' speaker, you might do just better pairing it with a good subwoofer and running in mono - vs doing the stereo 8"s. (Also depends on the size of the venues you plan on playing.) For comparison, I have a pair of Alto 10"s that are still a bit lacking in low end when used either solo or in stereo. No such problem with my EV12"s, though.
  14. I may be the exception to the rule on the Graphite - two keys died on mine the first week. Returned it for an Arturia Keylab 49. Pretty happy with it for couch noodling with Ipad apps. However if you are planning to use it for organ, it"s inconvenient having the slide faders on the right.
  15. If the budget allows, you might want to move it into a climate controlled storage locker until you are ready for it. I had a spinet piano in one for nearly a year - with no adverse effects.
  16. Great input, AnotherScott - thanks! I actually hadn"t thought about the mapping w/volume settings, but was just real time controlling the Ipad and potting down the Vox audio on my mixer. Gotta go try this.
  17. Another Scott is right, Mike. I mapped the B3X to the midi messages coming from the VOX midi drawbars - and it has become a gamechanger. While I love the VOX, the CX3 sounds are a bit less than inspiring. But the Hammond Ipad app just rocks!!! When the gigs start up again I"m really looking forward to trying this out. And maybe not have to drag out a second organ-centric board in smaller venue.
  18. WOW... these are terrific. Thanks for posting, Old No 7!
  19. I love my VOX Continental 73 as a bottom board on my K&M 18880/81 stand. For heavy organ gigs a NE 6D goes on top...if I want to travel lighter it"s an MOXF6. Everything in soft bags - road cases stay home. (Love everything about the VOX but the organs. Usable, but not great.) Of course with the B3X app now configured for VOX drawbar control, this will be my new light gig rig when gigging resumes. The NE or MOXF will remain in the case as backup.
  20. Have you considered an 8 or 10' powered speaker? They have multiple inputs, balanced line out and offer flexible positioning as a speaker or wedge monitor. I have a pair of 10"s that I have used singly or paired in clubs as keyboard amplification, flown them only poles as a small PA and also as mono or stereo floor monitors. Very flexible.
  21. I got caught out in the rain once, too. Another time I played an evening gig on a dock, and by the end of the night everything was absolutely soaked with dew. Each time I just left them out of the cases in an air conditioned room for a few days - with the a.c. cranked and a fan blowing on them. No issues either time.
  22. I"ve had good success with the hard, dense foam that electronics are packed in. I grabbed a bunch from some server cartons that were being discarded and glued them in place in my case.
  23. Yes, indeed - welcome! Bought my Nord from Kraft a few years back. Terrific transaction all around.
  24. Tonight and tomorrow night make eleven cancelled gigs for me. I"m really missing playing out. One of my bands is looking to resume rehearsals next week. I recommended they start without me and I"ll join them when I am ready. They are all 10-15 years younger than me, and were understanding and fine with it. The other band is mostly older group and isn"t even looking to restart rehearsals until late July, assuming everyone is healthy and willing at that time. I am quite grateful for that perspective. This was shaping up to be a busier year for me than ever before... but frankly now I"m not certain if or when I will feel comfortable playing indoors - or even outside - again.
  25. I play in two bands and both rehearse at members homes. I run thru a small mixer into the PA in both, and also put a 'more me' feed into my IEM"s. This way I don"t blast everyone thru the PA. On a few occasions in other locations I"ve used an Alto 10' wedge for monitoring myself - instead of IEM. When playing out live I always go with IEM"s - using a PA monitor mix and my 'more me' - regardless of amplification.
