  1. Whoops! Missed that. Sorry. Darn...now I have to find a new cover supplier, too.
  2. Check out www.lecover.com. I use their heavy duty, padded covers on all my gear. They last forever. Talk to Larry.
  3. That photo brings back some fond memories...as that Continental with a Univox MiniKorg on top was my first gigging rig in the 70's as a fledgling player! (Wish I still had both...) Which is why I just HAD to get the new Vox. And am loving it, too!
  4. It's funny... I've done some major gigs with guitar or bass players who showed up without even a spare cable... never mind a backup guitar. It never ceases to amaze me. While I bring a backup board, and doubles of EVERY piece of gear. (Even if it stays in the truck, I have a neatly packed "spare" bag with cables, pedals, mixer, power cords, etc.) Because you just never know what might crap out, or have been left behind at home or the last gig!
  5. Not sure if this helps, but at one time I had a NE4 and C1 at the same time. C1 was much faster and springier. I really loved the feel of that board, just not the weight.
  6. I had a K1 for years, sold it, missed it and bought another. Unfortunately that's gone now too. Loved those breathy pads. And the keyboard had such a wonderful feel...
  7. I had an original Continental years ago. To my recollection, the new Vox does a pretty accurate recreation. And to the question about the Vox case, it fits perfectly and the shoulder staps work ok... but I found the 73 note was pretty uncomfortable to transport that way for more than about 50 yards. I use it for rehearsals or if I'm traveling local and light. If I'm going far or moving lots of gear, it goes into a hard SKB. I'm not certain how long the handle's going to last, though - as it doesn't seem to be attached to the case as securely as the dual loop straps are on Nords (and most other cases.) So we'll see.
  8. Don't forget the CX3 engine - which does a pretty good job, too. (And as I realized last night, it has a cool USB port on the back that will charge up your phone!)
  9. After replacing my Electro 4 for a few gigs with the Vox, I brought both to a show last night. The Nord has been my go-to board for years, and I got the Vox as a backup...since I always have a spare but didn't want another Nord. After playing the Vox pretty much solely for a few weeks, I was really surprised to find what a bid difference the longer keys make for me. I used the Nord mostly for organ last night - and the keys felt absolutely stubby in comparison. The Vox was my board of choice for all my EP and AP sounds, and even for a bit of organ - it just felt more comfortable. In comparison, the keybed of the Nord felt far more responsive and springy for fast organ runs, but wow... did the keys feel little to me! Combined though, these two made for a killer rig. And it never fails that someone will come over to talk about the Vox. Apparently the old Continental has many fans quite happy to see a reissue out there...
  10. Yes...Another Scott is correct. The Vox is promoted as having the Grandstage piano and the CX3 organ engine. Never played a Grandstage, so I can't compare... but I am very happy with the piano options on the Continental. And it's a nice (if semi-weighted) keybed.
  11. Well, I dropped the hammer on a 73. I got a seriously great internet price on a new unit with the stand and pedal - and just could not say no. So...with a few days of hands-on time with my Vox Continental, I am more and more impressed with this keyboard. Really loving the piano and EP's...moreso than the same sounds on my well loved Nord Electro 4 73. The organs are pretty good after some tweaking, and will serve as a "sort of B3" in a pinch, but they are nowhere near the neighborhood of the Nord. But I knew that coming in, of course. I bought it to complement and backup the Nord - not to replace it. And partly for sentiment, as I first live gigged as a kid with an old, original Continental. I have to say, those Vox and Farfisa sounds really rock! For a blues or Soul gig there's no comparison, the Nord will do it better. hands down. But for gigs needing synths and pads - or with heavy epiano focus- the Vox is the new go-to guy. As I always bring a spare keyboard to a gig, so adding this board is kind of a wealth of riches...the best of both worlds. I can't think of much I couldn't cover now with one board or the other. Also, really loving the ease of use of the effects, the super simple layering, the quality and the footprint and weight. It's the most solid, lightest rig I have ever played. Great pedal, too. Still need a lot more time at the wheel, but loving it so far (and I actually don't hate the touchpads as much as I expected. They are really quite cool...!)
  12. I played and liked the MODX8 - but am really looking for a 7 to replace my MOXF6. However no stores around me have one to test. Any NY/NJ forum members seen one in the area?
  13. Thank you Brad! Thinking a Midi Event Processor might be the trick to handle the mapping. If I can work this out, I will definitely look to drop the hammer on the Vox.
  14. I have been using the same SKB 5014W since the late 90's. Still rock solid with original latches and wheels. Can't kill it. Same case - now on its 5th keyboard!
  15. Very interested in one of these. Any users have any idea if I could midi map my Voce drawbars to use with the Continental? Now that would be killer!!
  16. If the Montage version is as good as the Organimation for MOXF, you should be very happy. I use it all the time - and will definitely purchase it again when I upgrade to an MODX 7...
  17. Yes - exactly. There is no separation inside, and only the two snap pockets outside. But they are cheap, sturdy and great for cables. Smaller sized ones are great toolbags, too. *** In looking closer at the Ebay link, it appears there are indeed some inside pockets in those bags. My cheapo surplus store ones only have the outside pockets. ***
  18. I've had good success with the large canvas mechanic tool bags from military surplus stores. They are big, cheap (less than $20), have really solid zippers and last forever. I use one for audio cables and one for all my electrical cables/extension cords/powerstrips. Mine are at least 8 years old and are still in great shape.
  19. So this new 76 really has me thinking. I usually gig with an MOXF6 over an Electro 4 73 as a lightweight, do-all rig. I use just the MOXF for rehearsals. The short keybed is the only reason I haven't gigged with it alone on some events... because it really covers most of the core sounds I need quite well - including a lot of the same ground as the Nord. I don't want an 88 due to space and carry limitations Just wondering how the electric pianos compare to the expansion board & Chick Corea sounds on the MOXF... and if the organs are going to be that much better than the tweaked Organimation patches I really like and use. (Just haven't been able to tell from the videos so far.) Anyone have any thoughts?
  20. Thank you for the suggestion... I will keep my eye out for one. And I just read the thread about your Robby Krieger gigs - that was very, very cool!! Thanks again.
  21. A little late to the party, but seeking advice from the VC owners here who've also had/have Electros... Am in a situation now where I am doing a lot of Doors music. Getting by fairly happily with an Electro 4, but wondering if a VC would bring enough sound improvement to the table to warrant the cost. Not concerned about splits, as I use a multi board setup anyway. I just haven't been able to get my hands on one to test it out, and the online videos I've seen haven't shown a real Vox/Vox sound comparison. I would plan on keeping the NE4 for the blues/classic rock stuff I do. So wondering if this would be a redundant purchase. Thanks in advance...
  22. Always an Allman's fan - but when Brother and Sisters came it, it was "Whoa!" What Chuck brought to the band on that album was so amazing... really changed my direction on piano.
  23. The Kurzweil link posted by the OP showed a keyboard at the top with faders! So for about three minutes I was really excited by the thought of a KB3 engine controlled by faders/drawbars. Then I watched the video - and that bubble burst. Very, very disappointing to find out it's just knobs. Oh well...
  24. My concern exactly. (Except you got a few years on me...) Regularly lifting 65 lbs into the bed of a pickup is just too much for this aging back. Having just picked up a Berhinger sub (from a fellow forum member) for my SS3 - and absolutely LOVING the combination - the same total weight split between two boxes remains a lot more manageable for me. That said, if Aspen and team could shave about 15 pounds on it in the next go round, I'd be REALLY interested.
