  1. I’d be interested in the responses, too! I’ve also been thinking of picking one up. First, to augment my Vox Continental 73 as a top board on gigs (hate that Organ!) and second, as a light weight board for rehearsals - midi’ed to my IPad for piano, EP and Wurly.
  2. An Arturia Keylab 61 might work for you, too. I use a 49 with B3X and Module on my IPad - and it works great.
  3. I thought I might lighten my load by going with Ipad apps and a controller - so decided to do a real world test for a few weeks at rehearsal. Brought my old, unused Kurzweil stage piano and left it there. Figured I could then do minimal carry - just a bag w/Ipad, iRig, cables, IEMs. (Using BX3, Ravenscroft and Korg Module.) I finally determined that by the time I hooked everything up, dealt with constant flakiness with midi rig and controller, widely varying audio levels and all those cables… that it was just easier to haul my Nord, plug in and play. Except for transporting to and from my vehicle (and up and down stairs), carrying a board was just simpler, faster and more reliable. So for me, while the current midi and IOS technology is great it just isn’t worth the aggravation. I don’t see any way I would ever think of gigging with it. Things I DID learn? Well, my old 90’s Kurzweil piano still really cut thru the mix when the midi rig crapped out. And an old Voce midi drawbar controller works pretty great when dialed in with the BX3 app.
  4. On a small to medium sized gigs I just use my SSV3 with a Behringer sub (purchased from a fellow forum member). Never had an issue. As long as you run your boards through a good mixer into the SSV3, there should be plenty of volume. At bigger venues I will often run the same rig for stage volume and provide a stereo DI feed to FOH. That said, I always use IEM’s - mixing my output and a house return through a Rolls headphone amp. This allows me to dial “more me” into my ears as needed.
  5. Another quick option from Radial is the StageBug 2. It’s a mono DI box that can also be used as a stereo-to-mono summing DI. It saves having to manually sum your patches when the house sound can’t take you in stereo.
  6. Most fun: Korg CX3 Most useful: A series of Nord Electros Most special: The Spinet piano my folks bought for me to learn on - and still sits in my living room 50+ years later.
  7. One of the white keys on my Continental is sitting just a little lower than level with the others. Slight, but noticeable. Still plays ok, though. Its been gigged with a lot - but never abused. Any thoughts as to what it might be… and whether this is something I could fix myself? Thanks!
  8. There are plenty of used MOXF6’s out there, too - and there are few things it can’t cover. In the Yamaha soft case it’s light and easy to carry locally. And even in a small SKB case it doesn’t take up much space for a travel gig.
  9. I had an X-stand fail during set-up at a big supper club gig once - and actually did the show with one of my keyboards on an aluminum server stand. Scary, but it worked!
  10. Note the keyboards measurements and look on-line. I needed a case for an old Kurzweil SP that I use as a controller at rehearsal, but really didn’t want to spend much money on it. I found it fit perfectly in a brand new Yamaha Piaggero soft case - for $50. So shop around.
  11. I agree with Docbop… I have used the Roc N Soc with backrest for a couple of years and it is very comfortable and supportive. Pricy, heavy and clumsy to transport to gigs though - and the backrest loosens up within minutes. But with several bad discs in my back, it is by far the most comfortable seat I have found. I picked up a Gibraltar 6600 (without backrest) last year to leave at our rehearsal space… it’s quite nice and great value for the money.
  12. +1 on Arturia I picked up a Keylab49 as a living room/backyard deck rig for playing around with my Ipad apps - and its been absolutely perfect for that. Easily able to map it for multiple apps.
  13. Setting up for a big hotel ballroom gig a few years ago I was asked at the last minute to play the cocktail hour in an adjacent room. I grabbed my Nord Electro and my 10' powered wedge monitor - and with a band mate carrying my stand and pedals I was up and running in 5 minutes. The wedge was more than enough amplification. The guitar player strolled over with his amp about 10 minutes in. As he was a great jazz player, it turned out to be more fun than the actual gig. That Vox will be even lighter for you move around. And I just love the pianos and EP"s in there.
  14. I use the same Furman as Reezekeys - and have had mine for years, too!
  15. I can"t begin to count the number of times a sound guy said he only had one drop for me at a show - when all my patches are in stereo. And our stage plot specifies stereo for the keys, too. Anyone know how good the Radial StageBug sounds when used to sum L/R? Seems like it would be a good tool to have in the bag of tricks - for just these instancesâ¦
  16. What about a used MOXF? The introduction of the MODX has put a lot of these on the market. A 6 would be well under your pricepoint, and does everything quite well. There are some great additional Piano, EP, B3 and synth sound libraries out there, too. ( You WILL have to learn to work with Yamaha"s user-hostile voice design - I"m still learning things about mine!)
  17. After one of our cats jumped up onto one of my keyboards, I started locking them out of my music room. It was either that or put my gear back in its cases all the time!
  18. For years I have sub-mixed two keyboards thru a Rolls MX28 mini-mixer. For a while I used the headphone out to feed my IEM"s. Wanting to get more PA monitor in my ears I added the PM351. Now my boards go into the MX28, outs to Radial Stereo DI to FOH, headphone out to PM55 (more me) along with a PA monitor mix feeding into my IEM"s. As both Rolls" are the same footprint I velcro-ed the mixer on my bottom keyboard and the PM351 is velcro-ed on top of it. It all works really well - but the key is to use better power supplies than the noisy ones the Rolls ship with. One note- I am thinking of replacing the PM351 with the Roll PM55P (that has a limiter)â¦just to keep these aging ears safer.
  19. For my Clapton band I use a Nord Electro 6 over a Vox Continental 73. The Nord covers organ, and the Vox does piano (Grandstage sounds), EPs and some synth. And if any issues arise, each board can cover the other more than adequately. I"ll note that weight is a big issue for me, hence no hammer action.
  20. This thread reminded me that I still had my old QSR in storage - so I dug it out and had a few hours of fun using it again. It was the backup for my long gigged Quadrasynth Plus Pianoâ¦a great board. Kudos to Dave on all the very cool sounds. Seeing all the love here for the Alesis gear, I think maybe it"s time to find it a new home where someone can enjoy it as much as I have - so keep an eye on the KC classifieds!
  21. I have used Rolls gear for years, and love their MX28 mixers. In fact one has been incorporated into my live rig for as long as I can remember to sub-mix my keys and provide an IEM feed. On recommendation I got a PM351 a year or two back to add in the PA mix to my IEMs - but found the audio fidelity on the mix from it has a bad high frequency roll-off. Maybe I got a lemon, but I rarely use it. Just my .02 centsâ¦
  22. I've had success with Rolls MX28 Mini-Mixers or their PM351 Personal Monitor. Yes, the power supplies are cheap and noisy - but if you swap them out with decent ones, they're convenient due to their size and the ability to velcro them right to the top of your boards. The mixers also provide the extra gain needed by some amplifiers if you're not feeding the FOH. If you only wanted to mix/monitor multiple boards, the MX28 works. The PM55 mentioned above should do the board and a monitor feed. (I haven't used this model) The PM351 will do keyboard monitoring, house/vocal monitor and takes a mic. (But on this and the PM55 you will need some adapters - T/S to T/R/S "Y" cables or adapters - for stereo inputs.) Hope this helps...
  23. I'm still using a pair of older Alto TS110A's that I picked up years ago. They still sound pretty good. You might be able to find a couple of them pretty cheap.
