  1. Tom, the early ones were 100, 110, 112, 120 ("What'd I Say" model). The earlier the number the more delicate. By the time they got to the plastic topped ones (200/200a), they were pretty road worthy - although tuning the reeds is no fun.
  2. By the way, the wonderful "Classic Keys" book discussed here on the forum has an amazing overview of the manufacturing history of the Wurly. I learned a ton of things I didn't know. HIGHLY recommended......
  3. They, like musical instruments in general, skyrocketed in price during Covid, and have not come down. Looking at the Reverb price guide it looks like prices have come down in the last few months, but you'll still be spending around $3700 to get one. I paid $2500 for one last summer I got off of Facebook Marketplace and I was pretty stoked. There are a lot of upgraded and/or refurbished ones that are in the $5K area, which is too rich for my blood.
  4. Jimmy Jam showing a bit of his bassline playing on the new-ish MiniMoog. He does an almost Clav/Hammond slapping and smear with his basslines...
  5. Not something for me specifically, but the fact Nord continues to update their library of sounds reinforces my decision to have purchased Nord products.
  6. A bit more information.....looks like it was a full purchase. The employees sold their shares. https://gizmodo.com/moog-acquired-by-corporate-inmusic-1850535633
  7. Yeah, purchase would be my guess....or major investment? It hasn't been that long ago that they made it 49% company owned, which to my mind complicates it? So maybe they bought the 51% and got controlling interest?
  8. Dave, how does the Marshall sound? I'd never seen or heard of that one! It looks kind of Barbetta-esque? I assume based on the timeframe it came out that it's not exactly a featherweight, but the mixer section looks interesting....
  9. Kind of an opaque statement. The words "joining" and "partnership" are used in the statement. Is it a purchase? A distribution deal? An investment? A joint venture?
  10. Something in the amplifier section I would imagine? I had a suitcase Rhodes that exhibited the same thing and the amps in the speaker cabinet needed to be fixed. Best to find an amp repair person or see if there is a Leslie service shop near you? I think you can find the repair manual online if there is an amp repair person near you that isn't familiar with them. Shouldn't be hard for them to run down.....
  11. I've never played the 990 (I didn't know it even existed), but I did have a the KC-500 in the 90's. Historically Roland keyboard amps are pretty awful to most here, me included. I could never get a good sound out of mine with a variety of different keyboards tried. As U.Honey mentioned, the weight of the 990 is brutal. I can't imagine it would sound good enough to warrant that purchase when the MS amps are almost half the weight. I do have the KP-610, and I am very pleased with the sound and features. To me it competes with PPA speakers, and for me in a 2 guitar band, it's plenty loud and clean. I'm a big fan, although unlike the Roland you'll likely not find it in a store to try out before you buy.
  12. For those that have a lot of equity in a home but are not necessarily well positioned for retirement, a reverse mortgage might be a good option to consider. There is a lot of anecdotal misinformation out there, but it's worth investigating. My mother-in-law and her husband were not well positioned whatsoever for retirement; neither had well paying jobs through their careers, so their SS checks were pretty low. They had, however, purchased a home about 10 years ago that had appreciated considerably. After my father-in-laws passing, my MIL would not have been able to keep the house based only on her now deceased husbands SS income. I had brought up the possibility of a reverse mortgage with my wife's siblings, but they rejected it out of hand based on the above mentioned anecdotal misinformation. Thankfully after a bit of time they listened, and it has been the best thing for all involved. My MIL has been able to stay in the house with no house payments now, and no needed contributions from the children to keep her there.
  13. Signed up for $10 a month on Patreon. Well worth it. Keep up the good work MPN peeps!
  14. Great interview with BT..quite long, but fascinating...
  15. There already was a biopic (What's Love Got To Do With It) back in '93. And there was a very good documentary on her on HBO two years ago:
  16. Wow, I'd love to see that as well. I don't remember it at the time, but I always like the band. Judging from this clip, sounds like the late Paul Raymond used some string synth, maybe a Mini Moog, Wurlie, some sort of electric piano ie Helpinstill, Kawai or Yamaha electric grand?
  17. Also, many songs that most assume were recorded on a B3 were really done on an M3 - Booker T. and the MG's "Green Onions" and Boston's " Foreplay/Long Time" being a couple of the more well-known. I have a feeling M3's might be somewhat uncommon in Spain? As others have said, it is a bit pricey for those of us in the US where they were and are plentiful. But that might not be that bad of a price, although I would certainly try to get it lower. Even B3's are relatively uncommon, at least in the UK. The C3 was far more popular there, and I've heard the spinet L-100 was fairly common over there? Not nearly a desirable as an M3 would be. But I don't recall people in Europe/UK mentioning M3's......although others here might be more informed?
  18. I started taking organ lessons in 1975, my sophomore year in high school here in Ventura County. My cousin lived right around the corner from Heck Music in the city of Ventura, then a fairly large music store in the area. He was taking guitars lessons at the time, so we were both starting to investigate gear at Heck's, not knowing anything at this point - just going by looks or what we saw in Circus magazine. Heck's must have a had a very good rep calling on them for the recently released Cordovox portable organs, because that first day I walked in I saw one of each in the entire line, but the coolest was what is now known as the "White Elephant", the CDX-0652, a combination organ and "Moog synthesizer". My eyes just popped out! Well, needless to say it was well out of my meager budget for an organ, but that thing always stuck in my head. Someday I will have one I said to myself!!! But the one thing I did buy that day at Heck's was the very first issue of Keyboard Magazine, with Chick Corea on the cover (I had no earthly idea who he was). I went back to buy each issue, which jumpstarted my knowledge of everything "keyboards" very quickly. I somehow was told that Castle Music in Goleta (just north of Santa Barbara) was a Yamaha dealer, which Heck Music was not, and they had a mostly affordable YC-10 organ for around $350 that I decide to investigate. It was a push but I sold my Yamaha Mini Enduro 60 to pay for the organ (Yamaha for a Yamaha!). BUT, while there, I saw their top of the line organs, the YC-45d and the YC-30 single manual. Drool worthy, and unobtainable, but sexy and awesome!!! Again, I thought "someday". Fast forward to 1999 or 2000, eBay is a thing, but not huge yet. But the internet allows one to really start looking for unrequited keyboard love. I found a White Elephant somewhere on the east coast, and had it crated and shipped via Amtrak. Check! And the Recycler, a weekly classified ads paper in SoCal was still in full swing, and I found both a YC-45d and a YC30 (with original stands) in different ads around the same time for relatively little money. Check! Now the reality was that I had two young kids, and although I was working for good money I really didn't have much time to actually play them. So they sat. But I did sell them to friends and I know where they are if I ever wanted to get them back. Which I don't. But as is in life sometimes, the hunt was almost as much fun as actually getting them.
  19. And with them comes a considerable price increase. The 610SX is now $1799 on Sweetwater, up from I think $1599. I must say though, as an owner of the previous 610 I am still stoked on the products. Great sound, relatively small size, and at least for me in a rock setting with 2 guitar players a way to easily keep up and sound great.
  20. I'm a big fan of vests, which I think really class up any attire. I also think a cool pair of dress boots make any "corporate" outfit look far hipper. Google images of Jimmy Page when they did that 02 gig in 2007 ("Celebration Day"); he was about 62. He looked great in what he was wearing, which could have been described as somewhat corporate. No matter where you land, make sure you get your clothes fitted/altered by a tailor. That goes a long way to making dress slacks and a dress shirt or anything look more pro and put together. It makes huge difference...
  21. Hard to believe it's the second oldest park in the National League, and third oldest in baseball...and although I am biased, it is a pretty magical place.
  22. His name was Joachim "Jymm" Young (pronounced Wa-heem). He played in Box Skagg's band in the early 70's and some other albums. There is precious little on the web about him, only that he died in 1989. I seem to recall I saw something a few years back saying it was a drug related death; not sure about a bridge, but anything's possible. Near as I can tell there isn't much information on him playing on any records past the late 70's, which means there was 10 years of relative non-activity until his passing. I believe he was based in the SF area. Maybe someone here knows the full story? Either way, to me that is one of the most creative and iconic Hammond parts of the rock era. Simply brilliant.....
  23. That's almost $5K in 2023 dollars. A chunk of change in the day for sure, but this one is still above that.
