I'm going to use the transpose button and I feel shame
bill bosco replied to ABECK's topic in The Keyboard Corner
when i play something that i know in different keys , i almost always come up with some new ways to play it . the different geometry of the chords steer my hands in different directions that i normally wouldn't have gone -

bill bosco replied to ABECK's topic in The Keyboard Corner
i don't use it in live situations anymore , but use it sometimes learning something off you tube . so , the other night i had done just that to jam along with something in a key we would normally play this stuff in . then i spent some time reviewing some music for Sunday , i'm thinking , i don't remember playing these songs in these keys , but okay , whatever . Sunday comes along , and i'm a tad lost for a while , i've reviewed all these songs in the wrong keys . i forgot to turnoff the transpose button on my home board the night before -
Leslie 2101 MK2.. What can you tell me about it?
bill bosco replied to D. Gauss's topic in The Keyboard Corner
i had a mk2 , didn't like it . just recently picked up a Viscount Spin Tone 400 . i don't think the 2101 compares with it at at all , the 400 is a really a good sounding amp . it's got way more flexible tone shaping and also a better more natural sounding bottom end . the 2101 sounded harsh by comparison . i couldn't get it to sound right . the 400 is a bit heavier at 55 lbs , but it's also made of real wood , not MDF . -
Keyboards in Store -- Guitar Center, Pineville NC
bill bosco replied to Old No7's topic in The Keyboard Corner
i would think it's a no-brainer , especially with Sam Ash out of the way , to have a decent in store offering . my way of thinking is , if i can something i like , i'd rather buy it local than order it from Sweetwater . not being able to do a hands on , i mostly will end up putting off a new purchase for quite a long time . -
the tremolo effect and the stereo in general are very convincing . i think it might have to do with the downward firing woofer . i have one , and tone wise , i'd say it's a little more accurate with the highs than a 3300 . in my living room , i've AB'd it hooked up to my A100 against a 122 and sounds great , just like another Leslie cab in the room . can't hear much of a difference in the tone . with a vent i set the "122" mode on the Maggie on off , the mids work better that way .

Neo Vent or Lester K or GSI BURN > solid state Leslie
bill bosco replied to sagetunes's topic in The Keyboard Corner

Gig from Hell: Crumar Mojo failure edition
bill bosco replied to NewImprov's topic in The Keyboard Corner
that's why i gave up on my Mojo , a first or second gen . couldn't get any input from crumar support so i mothballed it for a couple of years ( couldn't sell it in good faith ) till i retired . that's where i had enough time time convert the whole thing to an hx-3 organ , drawbars and all . needless to say , this works for me just fine . play on it every weekend at my church . like a rock -
i have a first gen uhl x3-2 ,( purchased around 10 or 11 years ago ) it's built mostly from off the shelf parts from keyboard partner all of which are still available . i've since upgraded the 3.4 board to a 3.5 and have reconfigured some of the switching to analog types . the hx3 set up allows for this . i mostly run mine through a vent which goes to the house and a 3300 which sits behind me . but yea , you can't buy one in the U.S. anymore . you can though , get a MAG if you can handle the wait . it's got the edge , soundwise , over the UHL as it uses got some sort of preamp . also , build quality is pretty amazing . nothing comes close to the vintage vibe

AI destined to fail ? well as a source of art creation , considering today's culture , who knows . as a tool for learning and creating , yea , the potential is staggering . but one destiny we can be sure of though , somewhere down the line it will be weaponized . let's hope they can figure out a way to build it with a plug that can be pulled if things get out of hand .

Yamaha MODX-7 keybed....anyone here played one?
bill bosco replied to miden's topic in The Keyboard Corner
is that a global tweak or something for each individual patch ? -
Most authentic organ clone (2 manual)
bill bosco replied to bachsteady's topic in The Keyboard Corner
i believe the MAG uses their own preamp circuitry combined with the HX3 board . i've played on one direct through headphones and compared to my two HX3 organs it does have an edge . that and an impressive built quality ( fit and finish is better than anything out there , IMO ) is why all the love . and the vintage vibe is amazing , a lot like sitting in front of some brand new '60s console . -
Yamaha MODX-7 keybed....anyone here played one?
bill bosco replied to miden's topic in The Keyboard Corner
yea , i went from a MOXF 6 to a MODX 7 . don't know what they did to it , but the MODX is definitely an improvement . it's not bad to play on as an unweighted keyboard , not so hot for EPs and APs . they come alive on a weighted one . at home i play it through my 14 year old P-85 . -
Viscount Legend vs Crumar Mojo ('suitacse')
bill bosco replied to Niall01's topic in The Keyboard Corner
i never had any issues with drawbar latency on any clone i've owned . i did have issues with the early Crumar Mojo crashing on me on stage . couldn't use it as a result . apparently the early ones had some problems , i would avoid a used one as Crumar support won't be able to help you out
