  1. i never had any issues with drawbar latency on any clone i've owned . i did have issues with the early Crumar Mojo crashing on me on stage . couldn't use it as a result . apparently the early ones had some problems , i would avoid a used one as Crumar support won't be able to help you out
  2. i heard of them but never actually heard them before seeing them on Ed Sullivan that night . to my 12 year old ears , compared to what i was used to hearing , their sound was bright , with some kind of new energy . seems like the whole world exploded with new music that year . i had a little second hand transister radio and it was like every week new stuff was coming out . overnight , everyone i knew was playing guitar or drums . kept us out of trouble , or visa versa i guess . was an exciting time .
  3. the UHL is very lite weight for it's size , structurally very stiff but it's basically all made from off the shelf parts from Keyboard Partner . sparton but well laid out . the MAG , on the other hand , is in a whole other world . the vintage analog vibe and build quality are the best out there .
  4. i think there was more to it than that . the diode might have been for the actual brake function ( not stop ), as the rotors were not allowed to coast to a stop
  5. that's how i did it , always had some kind of brake rigged up to the leslie . nowadays , we use the EIS relays from trek ii for a brake with a three way switch . always loved the sound of the organ on stop .
  6. it was a lot , but i don't remember $ 650 being an extraordinary figure . i bought a used L 100 in '72 for $650 . am i that off with this ?
  7. the HX3 sim would be set up the same way , you could output the internal sim in mono or stereo and the 11 pin rotary hook up at the same time , the speed control is synced . the Viscount organs do this the same way .
  8. had one these , played it through 147 for a couple of years . bought myself my first Hammond in '72 , never touched the Compact again , no fond memories
  9. i have a motion sound MS 610 and a MAGGIE , to my ears ,the MAGGIE has a more accurate sound for my hx3.6 based organ . i have the 122 mode switched off on the amp though , so i can run the vent through it . otherwise it's way to much midrange color going on .
  10. i have both the HX3.5 and 3.6 . they are very close sound wise , i think the 3.6 is a little richer or refined , it also has a better reverb and much better pedal base . there's also way more tweakablity , if that's what you're into . the newer board , i believe , has more memory capacity and can store some additional organ models , which have recently become available . one of the things that stands out with the HX3 sound engine is its' FPGA chip , its got a very analog " feel " to it . the way the notes come off your fingers . nothing digital about it . i don't own a MAG , but i've played one , a P2 . hands down the most well made clone out there . was blown away by the build quality
  11. i still have mine , bought it in '85 or 6 . broke it out last year , it still worked , original battery . i remember being told the batteries were only supposed to be good for 10 years or so but they've seen some go past 15 or more . amazingly , my MODX has all my favorite DX7 EPs , including a Rhodes EP which back in the '80s was a custom sound i was able to get a hold of for my DX , it's showed up since in the DX card for the Motifs and as a stock patch in both the MOXF and the MODX .
  12. i think that was just for one gig , but awesome tasty stuff for sure , is that a word ?
  13. the combination makes a lot of sense when the organist is blowing lead with his right hand while his left hand is playing the bass . a guitar keeps up the chords of the tune . and besides , they just compliment each other so well .
  14. i guess Motion Sound is also hard to come by in the UK ? , their current generation stereo amps are great . i think they are better , tone wise , for keyboard than any powered PA amps i've tried , unless you can go real high end , like an RCF . on the plus side , they're stereo with two seperate channels .
  15. i remember the Rheem organ , and i've installed a few Rheem hot water heaters , never knew it was the same company
  16. John Lennon rolling in a Leslie , how cool is that ?
  17. from what i can make out on demoes , it's got a nicer tone than a 3300 , but , yea only a back to back comparison would do it justice . and it is tough to gauge from a video . at 65 lbs though , versus 150 lbs for a 122 or 125 for a 3300 , the Vortex is pretty remarkable .
  18. i've read it described as " putting an anvil in a paper bag " , i've chopped two M3s , two different chops on my L102 , and have done three different chops on my c3 . I think the anvil comparison is about right .
  19. i may be the odd man out on this , but i had a DZR10 for a week . was expecting to be blown away , i wanted to like it , but in the end , my MS 610 souded better and warmer , even the APs in my MODX 7 were better , and it was not just the difference between mono and stereo . so , the DZR got returned . the 610 is a nice little amp , I imagine the 612 is even better but the smaller cab suits my needs
  20. checked with a technician at Hammond Susuki yesterday . apparently they switched over from the PA-D50Z to a smaller 8 ohm driver for the MK2 fairly recently . doesn't sound like they changed the amp , just the driver , but i couldn't quite understand his reasoning why it wouldn't be stressing out the existing 50 watt amp . so , i guess it wouldn't be hurting anything , the amp does seem to have a lot of gain though
  21. i've got an older 12at7 on order from tubedepot . curious thing , i've got a couple of 16 ohm drivers on hand to experiment with as the driver for the 2101 is supposed to be the PA-D50Z , same one used in all the leslies now . on one of the other forums an owner saw that driver in his mk2 . the one in mine is a smaller 8 ohm unit . mine's a fairly new amp , seems like a pretty big change over
  22. anyone know if the 12ax7 in the 2101 is swappable with say , a 12at7 ? a 12au7 seems like a stretch as it is drawing more current but i've read about it done in the 3300 .
  23. i forgot to add , it's got guts on stage , it doesn't crash , it's been reliable . also , Keyboard Partner's custumer support was rock solid , they helped out big time with the build
