but probably not http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif

I already sent 'em email, and (strangely enough) got a form letter back saying that if I wanted faster approval time, that I should (drum roll please) become a Premium Member.

I'm in no hurry. We've got time...

Hey Dave,

With all the proceeds coming from the "Keyboard Corner" page (it was up to $1.32), we can make those CDs! Or wait - do you have to be a "Premium Member" to get paid? I dunno, cuz they keep changing the rules!

Dave, is it OK if I submit an MP3 of live performance? Our label in Wienna just decided that they will not publish our album (as you said - "suck factor is high"), and I think I`m not sure I`ll get the "All Clear" for submmision of the studio MP3 I`d like all of guys here to listen.

Is there any deadline for submmisions?

Thanks in advance

Sure, Faruk! You can submit whatever you'd like. Just please make sure that it's under 4 minutes, okay?

As you wish...

Not a formal one, but I'd like to have them all by the end of June if possible.

don't worry about that > http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif. No seriously, constructive criticism is quite difficult. I mean, first you have to know what the artist intended, then you'll have to see at what point he failed, third, you'll have to analyse and suggest what could be improved. WITHOUT hurting anyones feelings.. (almost forgot to mention that http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif)

(and I'm currently working on a submission to this "keyboardvision song-contest" too!)

I have had some questions about the four minute restriction, and I'd like to see if I can clear it up.

I originally set the four minute mark so that we could get as many tunes on the disc as we can. Since some of the tunes are going to be shorter than four minutes, it's probably okay that a few of them be a bit over. I have a 4:09 tune, and a 4:16 tune right now - both of those are fine with me.

I'm one of those "spirit of the law" kind of guys...never been much for the "letter of the law", if you know what I mean...

So, if you have to go over the four minute mark, it's okay. Use it as a guideline, not as a strict rule, keeping in mind that the intention is to leave room for other folks.

Try not to stray too far over it though, okay?

Thanks,

Dave et al, is the door still open on this? I have a tune I'm recording with a friend that I've love to get out for critique here, but it's gonna be a few days before it's mixed. How full up are we now?

I have 8 tunes right now.

The "deadline" is the end of June, but if I don't have 17 tunes by then (approximate length of a CD), it may be extended.

I started recording rough tracks for my piece today. I'm currently wrestling with Andromeda polyphony (yeah, I know, poor me.) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif It's mostly written, and should be fun to arrange. I actually wrote a little counter-melody on one of those suction cup note pad dashboard things today. I apologise to anyone who was on the 10 freeway in LA between 10-10:30am today.

Remember that MP3.com D.A.M. CDs are limited to 60 minutes, so you're gonna hit the wall at about 13-14 songs, not 17-18. THe rest of the space is reserved for the MP3 files, and the Shockwave player.

Yeah I know...but I think we're still considering the idea of making a CD separate from MP3c...Dave has Masterlink...I have a Burner and lots of CDRs, we'll make it work.

My contribution is only two minutes long, and one of the others is less than a minute. If we keep 'em short, we can get a nice variety on a single disc.

So, are you saying that my 4:09 is selfish and bloated? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Nice Dan,

My contribution is 2:48

That's about how long it takes before you reach for the stop button when hearing the song. http://home6.inet.tele.dk/ob/picture/smiley/eek2.gif

Hey...ya know...us guitar players are working on a comp CD too. Okay, we're all working with our own bands.

Now, a totally evil (but not original) idea...hmmm...we've got a KEYBOARD forum...a GUITAR forum...a BASS forum...and a DRUM forum...what if we were to team up "crossing forums"...and see what we could come up with??? Howsabout giving it a try for the next outing??? Let someone off one of the other forums master it...hmmm...too ambitious???

Hopefully next time around I'll be able to contribute.

Still getting my butt kicked with some of the recording stuff, but I'm getting somewhere http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Plus I'm finding that I really only make progress when I can spend a good chunk of time with it (> 2 hrs) which is getting difficult these days.

Listened to some of the stuff last night and really dug it. Hopefully over the weekend I'll have some time to post my comments. Some of the stuff is not really my thang, but I admire people that follow their vision of what their music should sound like, and there was a lot of effort and musicianship put into it.

Guess my question was glossed over so, allow me to inquire again.

I won't be able to get anything in before it's too late so I was wondering when (if ever) will be the next go 'round on one of these?

Sorry about misssing this one the last time, Carl...

I don't know if we'll do another one...there are no hard and fast rules here, we're figuring it out as we go. We elected to press ahead with the individual phases rather than try and figure the whole thing our before we started, because I wanted to avoid problems like they're having up in the MPER thread. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif

When and if we can figure something cool out past the MP3 site and actually manage to press some CDs, then perhaps we'll do it a second time. Right now, though, we're just trying to figure out the "collecting material" phase. The "what to do with the collected material" phase is next... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif
