OT: Alternatives to You-Tube

TikTok. Facebook.  Instagram.😎

I guess I should re-phrase the question.  I would like to explore some alternatives to You-Tube that do not involve a large corporation geared towards web monopoly and homogenization - i.e not You-Tube, Facebook, Tik-Tok, or Instagram, and the like.  Open-source would be a plus.

The very real problem is...

If you or I or someone else started such a non "large corporation geared towards web monopoly and homogenization" video streaming service that became hugely successful to compete with "You-Tube, Facebook, Tik-Tok, or Instagram, and the like" -- we'd probably end up selling it to them and retire, and there'd be another one on your list.

But then again, would the mass social media market really want what we'd offer as an alternative?

Yamaha MODX6 * Hammond SK Pro 73 * Roland Fantom-08 * Crumar Mojo Pedals * Mackie Thump 12As * Tascam DP-24SD * JBL 305 MkIIs

Go down on the boulevard and check out the  buskers.

TikTok and Instagram have started allowing longer format video and some musicians are moving there.    I like Patreon, but you have to pick the artist you want to follow and how much per month you will pay.    Patreon recently started having Zero per month artist support that some artists are offering.

One YouTuber I have followed switched his channel to a service called Rumble. It looks a lot like YouTube but supposedly doesn't track users & posters as aggressively as YT. I can't verify this since I haven't really surfed the channel but it may be a possible alternative.

WeVidi.  A tight knit community that does an excellent job of moderation, keeping out extremism, hate and pornography, unlike some of the others out there that purport to be the ultimate alternative to You Tube.

This is the promotional video I made for the site as I was one of the founding members and am a supporter.

We manage to keep trolls and bots out by requiring two factor authentication.  Those wishing to up-load have to supply an application with samples of their work.

We also have a Discord server and a Twitter/X account.

Without getting political I don't want someone else deciding for me how extreme is too extreme. I just don't click on material I disagree with and disagreers don't click on mine. That's how it was in the early days of youtube and worldwide groupthink was much less.
