Africa by Toto played on... Musical Tesla Coils?

Recommended Posts

Here's something beautifully bizarre: 2-part harmonies from Tesla coils! My first time out, I didn't know whether to laugh or listen to my jaw dropping. Excellent work. 2:49.

There's also a version of "This Is Halloween" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" that's a keeper. 2:12.

Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions.

I strongly suspect that we're seeing a cool light show with hidden speakers.

It seems to me that the latency of the spark would not be able to support frequencies higher than about 100 Hz.

This reminds me of the video of a juggler bouncing balls off a flat MIDI controller on the floor -- cute image, but faked results.

The drums & percussion are overdubbed, as he writes in the description. The Tesla coils are probably real.

This was, as far as I can tell (and remember), the first instance of MIDI-Controlled Tesla coils, twelve years ago:

Meh Culpa (1) -- I believe now that the Tesla coils are the speakers (as well as the light show). Basically, any sound you put into the box is what will come out. The MIDI part is irrelevant.

Endnotes:

(1) Pun intended.
