EricBarker
How is that breaking a cardinal rule? In the gigging world, it's bad form NOT to know it, it's bound to come up. Only thing that gets some keyboardists is the "wind-down" at the end of the of the solo. I just listened to the original, I've forgotten just how all-over-the-place Eddy's time is in that spot. Hey, it works, but it's kind of funny picking it apart: he stumbles a bit and then is early on the last note. Quote Puck Funk! Hey, it works, but it's kind of funny picking it apart: he stumbles a bit and then is early on the last note. I never really thought of Jump as having a keyboard solo other than the Intro chords (repeated during the song ) and a prominent arpeggio keyboard that is usually sloppier than the Grateful Dead, unless the keyboardist has written the part out. MathOfInsects
I love playing that tune. We keyboardists don't get too many iconic power-chord moments like that. The trick to the "solo" is that he adds an extra note to the arpeggios about halfway through, turning it from 8ths to triplets. When I pulled my R3 back out I noticed that one of the vintage sounds was called "OBJUMPR," and honestly never thought anything of it, sort of mentally assuming it was a mono sound with a big glide or something that made it "jump." Then one day I was like, "ohhhhh......duhhhhh!!" It sounds great, too. Quote www.joshweinstein.com

MotiDave
The only tricky part ... where some bands will fall apart ... is the guitar lead. Its not hard, its just different patter. and everyone needs to be on the same accent timing (keys bass and drums). I never hit the solo rap 'slow down' exactly as Eddie did either. Doesn"t matter as long as you hit that first of the (solo) ending notes on the beat. Pretty easy solo, even i can play it lol. Quote The baiting I do is purely for entertainment value. Please feel free to ignore it.

People in clubs jump and dance to Jump. People in clubs exit to Stairway. Even though they're both classics, they're not comparable when it comes to live performance. Jump is good... Barryjam
It's sorta ironic that one of the most famous keyboard riffs was written by a guitarist.... Maybe because relatively simpler riffs (holding a bass note in left hand while using simple triads in right) can be played by a much larger group of players than more difficult riffs. Adan
I'm actually at my most nervous when I'm playing an exposed simple part that everyone knows so well. Even though I probably won't catch a clam, I'm kinda terrified that I might and everyone will notice it. I might also show up for the gig wearing only my underwear -- it's that kind of fear.
