Krakit
I used to have some USS A frames that I lost in a house fire. Searching for a while for some sort kind of replacement and came up with this idea. I want to put an On-Stage KS7903 behind something else like a Z stand or something. The reason is that I have a Roland FA-08 that is too wide to work with the On-Stage stand (I need 53 inches and the stand has a max width of 48") so I'm thinking of putting the FA on one of my existing single tier stands and my other boards on the On Stage A frame behind it. My question is will this work? I mean can I get the A frame close enough to the back of the Roland so that I can reach the boards that sit above it or is this doomed to failure? Let me know if I need to clarify what I'm asking in any way. I realize it might be hard to picture it in your mind. Carl
EscapeRocks
Hey Carl, I use the OnSTage Z stand for my FA08. I only have it open to about 26 inches. Extremely stable. This way my 2nd tier isn't too wide for a 61 board up top. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/br_zpse0xpec8i.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/br2_zpsatslg49k.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/daverig_zps5nshx34d.jpg David Gig Rig:Roland Fantom-08| Yamaha MODX+ 6 | MacBook Pro 14" M1| Mainstage
Krakit
Thing is I need at minimum 3 tiers (really 4 tiers unless I can share tiers between two boards like I did with my old USS A frames) This is the only surviving photo of my old setup: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d9/krakit/IMAGE025.jpg I need to put at least as much (actually a bit more) in my new setup. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d9/krakit/P1290009_edited-1.jpg I want to encorporate 76, 49 and 25 key MIDI controllers on my rack along with my Dave Smith MOPHO and the rest of the gear you see in the above photo. mate stubb
Sounds like what you need is just a wider A Frame. Should be able to cobble up some longer cross tubes from somewhere. EscapeRocks
You could make a 3 tier out of your OnStage Z. Get the 2nd tier attachment made for the Z, then the universal 2nd tier made for their x stands. I do this now and then when I bring a 3rd board to a gig. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/3t3_zpsk2pmjkuy.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/3t1_zpsadxowi9p.jpg You can get a thin shelf board to place on either the 2nd or 3rd tier, or both, that can help hold more stuff side to side. I´d actually need a USS SJT-150 swivel joint for my USS arsenal. I have 2 but they are slightly different models in the sense of one fits into tubing only and the other "one-side" into t-nuts. Need a 3rd one to create a matched pair,- the one or the other. Something in your box you would sell ? A.C.

Something in your box you would sell ? A.C. Unfortunately I only have 2 of those swivel type joints; one's in use and the other one will be eventually. I wish I had bought more of these when they were available as they provide a lot of utility. The only thing I would sell is a few of the T-joints as I could not believe how many I had until I pulled down the boxes from my attic and unwrapped the surplus supply I bought up years ago (no more swivels unfortunately). I am curious if the On-Stage T-joints are compatible with USS and how's the quality?

Also A-Frame Parts List I can't tell if I can order four support bars of appropriate length or not. I'm guessing the tall side tubes might work but I don't see them as orderable on the list and can't tell if they might be too long. And what about my original idea? What if I buy the On Stage A frame and put another stand in front/beneath the lowest tier on the A frame? I have a couple of these I could try: http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/Data/Product_Images/QLWS570b.jpg Carl

I'm guessing the tall side tubes might work but I don't see them as orderable on the list and can't tell if they might be too long. If you already have the Onstage Z stand, then you order the Onstage KSA7550 zstand 2nd tier: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/ksa_zpst872jfac.jpg The order the Onstage stand universal 2nd tier KSA7500: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/escaperocks1/ksa7500_zps2djm3whi.jpg The 7550 attaches to the Z stand, then the 7500 attaches to the back of the 7500 square tubes. You probably won't use the cross member on the third tier as it doesn't go as wide as your z stand can go. Instant 3 tier. All the major retailers have them. I am seeing about $55 for the 7550, and $40 for the 7500. If you want the mic attachment look up KSA7575 About $15 without the boom. EscapeRocks
Does any competitor make equal hardware to Gibralter at a "normal" price? As far as tubular drum rack hardware, Gibraltar is actually on the less expensive side. For a quick comparison, I priced out similar hardware from DW. Where a Gibraltar 24" T-leg is around $35 at the retailers, the DW 24" T Leg is about $55 at the same places. Ouch. Krakit
I think I'm going to have to hold out until I can find an USS A frame like the one I had. I really need to set up some side by side keyboards on it and additionally need some of those partial tiers to support devices like my Dave Smith MoPho, my Korg M3M and a Behringer B-Control Nano. RABid
I've posted this picture before. An a-frame behind my Hammond. As someone said, to fit tight the A-frame needs to be wider than the keyboard that it straddles. This post edited for speling.
