  1. As a business, in Virginia, each month I pay Sales and Use tax. The Use part is what you are technically supposed to pay on items you bought from out of state but "use" in Va. It's already on the books is my point. Just sayin'
  2. I wish they issue a non-deviant behaviour version of the movie; I see enough of those things in the local music scene already.
  3. Thanks for getting this up so well. Missed it. [ x Like ]
  4. I never got into Apple, but for a far different reason... Which is: There is no back 1 page arrow/button on their phones. Every computer ever made has a back button. Every phone except Apple ever made has a back button. Who do they think they are? I don't play that game. By Apple not having this basic feature, it showed an arrogance which I didn't want to accept. If they were that deliberately anal, they could pound sand.
  5. I upgraded my 2 board stand last Fall, from a great Spider Pro (silver) to a Gibraltar chrome tube stand with a custom designed center tube mike holder. It looks great, it takes just a wee bit longer to set up, like 5 minutes vs. 2. It is nice to get the respect and interest from others. Even moved things around slightly, to improve visibility. That's a switch! The reason I upgraded to this chrome beauty is to apply my love for classic cars as much as possible to the keyboard system. Seeing the guys brag rightly so of their cool guitars, drum sets etc. is like strolling through a car show among the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. restored cars and trucks. Not much can be done with the boards; like trying to get excited about any other appliances, like refrigerators or stoves. Waaahhh I would like to upgrade the keys to reverse colors on my Nord 5, to add a little classic look to it. My other board, a Roland J50, is already black and looks better with the normal key colors. I'm working on a '56 Chevy Panel rat rod now, but I don't think I want to carry that theme to keyboards. ha ha
  6. What a great new (for me) topic. And, now I have a new word added to my vocabulary; as a Mensa member, I can assure you that I have never heard this word, ever, at a Mensa meeting. But, then again, they might have all been bass players or drummers?
  7. Nords are durable, at least my 3 have been. Might be classified as undocumented clonewheels ?
  8. ^^^^CPHollis and I think exactly the same. Here in my area of Virginia, the rule seems to be passive aggressive in extremes.Gossip behind your back, etc. I too have a lot of confidence, and also have the irritating habit of quietly smiling back (usually) when under any stress; this does make others even more angry, which is fine with me. Show their weak character. Bonus to the ^smiling quietly: Girls love it, the air of restrained confidence. Reminds them of a mix of Don Corleone and Clint Eastwood, I have been told. Plus, being 6'2 260#, while not much bigger than average, doesn't hurt. Paul
  9. Motomike, I use 2 kbds, put the organ on the bottom and the other one on top. I leave the bottom one, a Nord 5D, on organ sound 90%, so adjustments are minimal; hard to adjust the bottom board easily. The top board (J50) I use for many different sounds, so I want it high and in the light, where adjustments are much, much easier. I use a Spider Pro, but have switched to a Gibraltar thing, can't remember the exact name, the one with the curved frame, and added a custom curved bar mike holder to the rear to match the curves of the other pcs. Looks really sweet, the curve looks much better than the factory erector-set one. You can also modify easily the bottom crossbar for easy foot pedal access...the factory really hasn't done their keys stand justice by not researching/removing these 2 objections. wtf? Both boards are infinitely adjustable almost; with minimal work, you can get the Gibraltar upper level right down on the lower board if you want. The factory info makes it seem almost impossible, but I believe they're just "playing" it safe. I'm a little on the tall side, and am also considering on making a custom Grade School Spider Pro, which is of course a grown up Baby Spider, by just cutting down the center spine of my full size one; the center cap will screw back into the spine casting wherever you want it anyway, so I can remove some of the excess height this way.
  10. In a cover band fwiw. Worried if you got your part down? Get 92%? close to their sound, except better on signature licks. To get the confidence of not being closer than this %, You Tube is your friend. Compare with the original band live, in different years, etc... even they couldn't do better, so it doesn't matter that much, with everyone else blaring anyway. Wear black shirts if possible; sweat doesn't show. Some of the newer fabrics wick about the same in other colors. Do a spit test. Take a leak on every break, even if think you don't have too; cheap insurance, plus you can do PR and mingle with customers to and fro the bathroom.
  11. I go to Goodwill or equal and buy a nice assortment of athletic? zipper soft bags, for an average of 2.50 each. It takes a while to find nice ones, so I buy them when I see them, have twice what I need, but for the price who cares? All of the bags of course have handles, and since most are lightweight, you can carry 3 or 4 at once. The picture ^^^^ a few posts above would go in 3 or 4 bags. Most the bags don't have extra things in them once you're set up, so you can store them in an emptied keyboard bag if necessary. Fwiw, Paul
  12. From what I understand, Gibraltar is very pricey. Just for fun, it would be interesting to find a reasonable price competitor's prices and pieces available to see what is possible. I like the polished aluminum idea too. I wonder if all manufacturers clamps are as strong too? Guess it's time to get out Google ! Paul
  13. 2 boards, Spider Pro, Little Mackie SRM150 monitor on a mike stand, Rolls 28 mixer. Usually play through FOH, otherwise a powered speaker, K10 or Electro BR549?. Actual setup time about 15 min, but add 10 min from vehicle to stage, 10 min reload, and a fair amt. of time waiting for everyone else to get out of the way probably 15 min. I usually bring my roadie and she saves me about 10 total minutes carrying stuff to stage area/return at end. I set up usually stage right rear, and there is always someone or two running cables in front of or behind me. Very irritating, so I try to arrive way early, to get mostly set up before others arrive. Gig Karma means I am usually last to load out.
  14. Spider Pro has a metal reinforcement for their mike mounting area. You don't need it, but it makes life more comfortable knowing there's some metal under the plastic top cap. More pedal area too.
  15. Split button sounds like the "transpose button" discussion with the same outcome...if you don't like it, don't use it. However, playing in a classic rock band and a blues band, it's hard to beat having a left side organ with a right side piano, or then maybe a right side sax, or something else, just a button push away. No cognitive toll for me...I don't split on the fly; they are pre-programmed, so no mental calisthenics necessary. This way you can adjust lower side volume down to not fight the right hand melody side. I believe I have almost all splits at same point, to eliminate surprises also. It's just nice being able to add this variety to the arsenal. In addition to just using one sound entirely, I use about 6 ? preset splits, such as Left to Right:organ/piano, orchestra/piano, piano/piano and organ/organ (with the lower piano or organ raised up an octave, to keep from walking on the bass), etc. I also have used a split same sound on sound with the lower 2 key octaves again being up 1 octave, to keep from walking on the bass. Side bonus: also nice for occasional drinking or snacking or reaching for or adjustments while playing a one hand background with sound on sound, since these left 2 or so octaves are actually just a repeat of the 2 just above, so you can play easily with the non-drinking hand.
  16. For me, the Vox deal killer is not having a split, especially on the 73 key board. I was getting the GAS feeling too! No split eliminates it for use as a single gigging board in my world. Doesn't anyone who engineers these things have a live gigging neighbor or relative who would mention this? Waste of a fine keyboard.
  17. Saw a new Jupiter 80/76? key for $495 other day. Probably get one.
  18. MurMan, I know what's going on in their hearts and minds by talking to them many times. I didn't make it up, so don't judge me either. The quote referred to peer pressure from other church members.
  19. It sounds very stressful; why not just play in a regular band Saturday night, and then attend a church on Sunday which rightly focuses on the preaching more than the music? Respectfully, not trying to sound cute, but it is an option; worked well for the New Testament churches, just sayin'. Over 50 years of regular church attendance and an active 3-5 gigs a month classic rock band keys player leads me to say: It has always seemed to me that most the congretation who are that extremely into the Sunday morning kick butt praise music scene are just poser wanabees who would rather go out Saturday night instead to hear the real rock music if they could get away with it.
  20. Monotimbral is the deal breaker for me, and I was ready to order...I made this mistake before when I got my Electro 3/73. It would be so nice to have one board with a great organ and great piano/ep sounds, splittable so one could play a blues gig, or just for general one board uses. I don't get it. Oh well, 61 keys was a bit limited for my wishes anyway.
  21. ^^^^^dittos mak1457...also, listening to many of the above songs, I just wondered if anyone goes to church to worship the Lord and not hear a rock concert composed (almost all) of 2nd rate music? Saturday nights is the time to rock out, to me.
  22. I didn't know there were so many options; on this site until now I only recall the Burn and, of course, the Vents being mentioned. Thanks for the post.
