Interesting but at 2 to 3 grand each, the two Yore effects are well above my pay grade LoL! 😎👍

ps. I do love Spring Reverb...

I know, right?

Definitely more for a studio that has a steady list of paying clients...

"Free Shipping" is the modern version of "Free Lunch" -- there ain't no such thing!

This is why instrument accessories such as cases have more than doubled in price over the past few years, as shipping costs skyrocket.

This, however, does not explain the price on those Yore effects! 🙂

not new (except to me) but certainly cool IMO...

I finally picked up a Zoom Multistomp (MS-70CDR) which is stompbox-sized thing full of chorus, delay, reverb and modulation patches... and it's pretty great for $129 (and is tough, which I can attest to because I just knocked it off the top of an amp and it took at 4 foot fall onto a ceramic tile floor that has obliterated iPads and dishes and suffered no damage)...

You can set up a chain of 4 pedals... I'm having fun... can throw it and my little ZT Lunchbox Jr. in a backpack and have a small battery-operated go rig

AKG made some pretty decent sounding big, furniture-esque spring reverbs in the 70s. This Days of Yore sounded no better than the short crappy springs I remember from that era, and for anybody willing to drop $3600 on something which sounds like this, I have a Radio Shack cassette machine I will gladly sell you for only $5000.

Yeah those are some good ones, and they did a software emu at one point but I recall it being pretty wonky and not too prone to update for OS architecture changes.

If I understand this correctly, this kid if does what Steve Stevens’ ray gun toys did back in the day.  Which sounds cool to me!

Makes me think of Paul Gilbert and his Makita drill.

Electric toothbrushes, old-school electric razors with rotary blades, those small hand-held batter-operated fans, pretty much anything with a small electric motor, or an electromagnet will do something to your PU's. My concern would be the possibility of de-magnetizing your PU's.

There's a (possibly apocryphal) story about Andy Summers having the PU's de-mag on one of his Guitars, and he eventually figured out it had something to do with taking the London subway system, which is essentially one massive Electric Train set. Funny thing, I have never heard of such a thing happening to Musicians in NYC, which has had an electric subway system for over a century?

More ideas I never thought to think about…

NYC subway:

…in the form of three-phase alternating current at 11,000 volts, this current to be generated at a frequency of 25 cycles per…

London tube:

…operate at 630 volts DC using third (positive) and fourth (negative) current rails…

Not an electrician, nor engineer so maybe?

@Thethirdapple - Thanks for that!

It seems like this would be an interesting experiment, or challenge for someone with a curious mind, and too much time to spare; check in with Musicians worldwide, to see if anyone else has ever had a PU de-mag from riding the Subway/Tube/Metro/What-have-you?

Working in Music, and Music retail around D.C., which also has an Electric Train set for public transport, I never encountered this, nor did I ever hear from anyone else who'd experienced it?

In at least one version of the Andy Summers story, supposedly he'd figured out that there was a point on his regular commute, where he passed a large transformer, or something like, and that was the cause of the difficulty, rather than the Electromagnetic field generated by the Tube, overall.

Oh, man . . .

@hurricane hugo - That thing is dangerous. I can already envision hooking it up through one of my MIDI Patchbays, and losing a week's worth of sleep.

I just upgraded my Big Muff from the Nano Pi to the new J. Macsis Ram's Head edition last week and was surprised by the string-to-string separation and clarity of the latter. I ended up selling the Nano, which I liked quite a bit. I think it is modeled after the first rev of the second version of the pedal (early 70's), whereas the purple J. Macsis script edition is modeled after the mid-70's second rev of the second version of the pedal.

I love the bass edition, which is basically a Green Russian with an extra bass boost switch. Never cared for the Smashing Pumpkins orange opto edition, but I like most Big Muffs, and it still surprises me how different they sound from each other. I am also finding that I prefer using fuzz on LP to any of my Fenders.

I finally pulled the trigger on a Catalinbread Soft Focus tonight.  First gear purchase in quite some time- definitely since 2023 at least.

Ooooh, I'm very much wanting one of those, myself! In fact, I very nearly ordered one earlier tonight, myself- what a funny and odd coincidence that would have been! Be sure to report back about it!

It's somethin', the things that you can only really tell about a pedal like that by plugging it in and trying it out, as opposed to listening to various demo-videos. It's also surprising just how much they can vary from one to another to another of the same pedal, even the same year and production run.

Nearly all of my Guitars run HB's, and I love the sound of the Sovereign with them, using the "Vintage" and "Gain" settings on the mini-toggle switches. With some creative knob-twisting, you can get a surprising range of sounds from it, although I feel it would be wasted as an Overdrive.

I think that you and I may have somewhat different and overlapping definitions of "overdrive" and "distortion"...

@Caevan O’Shite - You're probably right on that count. My idea of a "Clean" sound is what most players are trying to get with Transparent, or Low-Gain Overdrives.

"Overdrive" should have more warmth than snarl, with just a little tooth showing. You could get away with this sound in a Wedding/Bar Mitzvah band, but not on EVERY song.

"Distortion" is pure snarl, lips curled back, fangs showing. Distortion is visceral, you should feel it, as much as hear it.

"Metal Distortion" is essentially Weaponized Guitar. You'll likely take some damage if you get too close, but as long as you're having a good time, WTH?

"Fuzz" is, to quote Devo's motto from back  in the day, "The Sound of Things Falling Apart." For unrepentant Noise fiends, Praise "BOB" and pass the hallucinogens.

I’ll add a caveat: fuzz CAN be used for softer tones than the Fall of Western Civilization.  A good fuzz with well-designed controls- when used in skilled moderation- can be tamed from grizzly bear to teddy bear.
