  1. Agreed! For something unusual, I’ll suggest a Franklin Link glove-leather strap. I’ve gotten a couple of these, and they’re surprisingly soft on the shoulder, even though they’re not really padded. The construction gives them a bit of flex. https://franklinstrap.com/product/link-glove-leather-handmade-guitar-strap/
  2. I’m back! Amusingly, the Youngs of AC/DC used few pedals beyond basic functional stuff- tuners, wireless rigs, EQs. Their formula was basically humbucker-equipped guitars into British style (Marshall, Orange) amps turned way up. I know one used a boost pedal- probably Angus. So, echoing Winston’s post, about all I’d add for an initial attempt at this sound would be a “Marshall in a box” or distortion pedal if you don’t already use one as your main amp, plus a transparent boost style OD or simple volume pedal. That should get you solidly into AC/DC territory. The JHS Angry Charlie and Marshall Guv’nor are pretty popular Marshall in a box pedals. I’ve heard the Menatone King of the Britains/The King is getting some respect. (Disclosure: I don’t own any of these.) Dialing in Isis’ guitarist’ actual sound might be a little trickier. There might be a hint of other effects: distortion, fuzz, reverb, chorus, etc.- thrown in, but if so, they’re using it barely on.
  3. I listened to the video, and have ideas, but I’m RIGHT about to go to bed. I’ll comment more later. Let me say this, though: one of the tools I use (besides my own ears & brain) is a sire calle Equipboard. They have lists of the gear musicians used to record their music. Type in a name, see what they’ve been spotted using. https://equipboard.com That said, Isis sounds a lot like they’re aiming to sound like AC/DC. So even if you can’t find Isis’ gear, you could look to see what Angus & Malcolm Young have used in their storied careers.
  4. Update: mom liked it so much, she wants me to get another chuck roast and do it again, soon. You can’t get bigger praise than that!
  5. D’OH! “My brain is what I forget with”, as my dad says. I got the description backwards: it was NOT cherry wood, it was walnut, and the pickguard was red. Still looked like a cherry bonbon Tele, though. Got THAT part right.😜
  6. It took me a while, but I finally remembered what your Telebastard reminded me of. There was a guy on another board who had a custom Tele with a glossy-finished cherry wood body (or top/cap) paired with a chocolate-brown pickguard. It looked like a cherry bonbon in telecaster form.
  7. Back in the saddle again!👍🏽
  8. It was pretty darn good, and Mom REALLY liked it.
  9. I experimented and did a fusion of Hungarian Goulash and Hungarian Mushroom soup. Worked out pretty good! https://imgur.com/gallery/BqgHp6o
  10. Nice! Kinda reminds me of The Moody Blues, maybe infused with some Pink Floyd.
  11. In fact, my 8 year old iPad just died yesterday. Mom’s is having issues, as is Dad’s, though his is the most reliable. Currently looking at iPad Airs for replacements. Good thing we all updated our iPhones a few weeks ago! 🤦🏾‍♂️
  12. I went looking for more Hitsujibungaku stuff. One part grunge, one part pop, one part shoegaze- overall, very 1990s.👍🏽
  13. I’d love to own an actual 12-string, but right now, I emulate that sound using an EHX Epitome (which has a POG in it). But something like this would let me free up the Epitome for other stunts. Speaking of EHX…
  14. In the pot… And plated, with buttered toast. Pasta: cavitappi Solids: shrimp, Campari tomatoes, sliced button mushrooms, onion, garlic Liquids: pasta water, white wine, lemon juice, the innards from my sliced tomatoes, unsalted butter, EVOO, and shredded merlot Bellevitano cheese. Herbs: Black pepper, white pepper, thyme, tarragon, oregano, parsley, chives and garlic salt.
  15. I have never experienced a dull moment listening to Bill Laswell.
  16. Welcome to the asylum…ummmmm…forum!
  17. If you can’t find a standard Gretsch pickguard for your guitar, there’s definitely companies that can make custom ones for you: https://www.wdmusic.com/wd-custom-pickguards.html https://greasygroove.com/pickguards.html https://www.pickguardplanet.com/our-work/ https://www.pickguardian.com
  18. I’m a big fan of Adrian Belew’s work, and have heard (and purchased) a HUGE chunk of the music he’s played. But somehow, I managed to never hear a single note of his work with The Bears. Fortunately, in a recent interview, he mentioned that as being one of his favorite projects. The journalist understood Belew’s lament that The Bears were under-appreciated, and attached a video of a whole concert.
  19. I’m not a pro by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve never performed with a guitar in font of any audience beyond my instructors, my dogs or some people way on the other side of a square with other things occupying their attention. And I have A LOT of gear, covering a wide variety of potential sounds. And in terms of pedals, I have both discrete pedals and multi effects units. I have all that stuff because guitar is an artistic outlet for me, and I can afford it. So I can explore surf guitar, metal, classic rock, jazz, and whatever strikes my fancy.
  20. Nice score! I don’t have one (yet) but I know those are pretty nice. Enjoy it!
  21. I can’t point to any names in particular, but the guitarists who show up in videos from Coffee & Riffs or the The Vigeland Mausoleum shows (and their acolytes) would be among MY primary suspects for diving into this stuff without regard for their personal safety. Then there’s guys like Helios Creed whose lifeblood is manipulating their sound in unexpected ways through labyrinthine signal chains.
