@Caevan O’Shite Thanks I was always looking for that smooth overdrive with overtones and undertones. None of those guys you mentioned above were an influence on me, the only guitarists that I ever copied was a little early Clapton from the Creams Wheels of Fire album, And lots of early Roy Buchanan (whom I saw live on his first national tour). I am an improvisor. I learned how the scales work and how to fit them against the backing tracks, and from that point on I just let it flow out (improvising like that on original tunes has very little monetary value in the bar scene or in the recording process). Music is just a nice hobby for me. However one of these days I might try to play out, that is why I just got that second Super Champ X2, so I have a backup unit in case the first one breaks. The SCX2 is an amp I can use in small rooms. It has all the effects I use which is overdrive and reverb. One trip in, and one trip out, amp in one hand, guitar in the other. The SCX2's also have a line out which can go into bigger amps or a PA system for more volume than the SCX2 which are only 15 watts RMS. Anyways it is hard to sell improvised sets on original tunes to local venues unless I go out and play some venues for free, and if I get good results other venues might pay......

Looks cool, I once had a Line 6 Pod XT. It was awesome sounding as a recording device. Here is the tune the last one I recorded with the Pod XT https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=5913545 I did this because a famous producer was complaining that many or most of my tunes, had the leads done in overdrive so I did a swap out between overdrive and clean to prove it was ok that I could do either clean or overdrive.

Welcome aboard.

@Caevan O’Shite The 6v6's have an extra Double Mica plate on the bottom of the tubes the 5751 are lower gain for a cleaner sound. ( I just talked to Eurotubes and ordered another set. The BIAS is OK at 52MV
-
Call Eurotubes, I did not get the details except they sounded good. (503) 659-7401 They are in Oregon.

@Caevan O’Shite I still have the tube dampers on my other SCX2, also I have a question in to Eurotubes about the BIAS setting. The newly acquired amp to me is definitely a bit punchier than the older one. The newly acquired amp is actually 12 years old but relatively unused, the one I have been using for about 4 years is a 2020 model, the newly acquired amp was built in 2012, but was relatively not used at all. I am however gonna get another set of JJ's for the 2020 model as well as a new Lil Buddy if the new tubes don't make that one punchier. I have both amps set in Fender Fuse to the exact same settings, so I am guessing the new tubes are different sounding because of the new improvements on the 6V6's and the one preamp tube a 12AX7 style Under Eurotubes name of 5157.

I just did the re-tubing and replacing my newly acquired Super Champ X2 speaker and setting the BIAS on the amp. It sounds waaaaaay better than the one I have been using for the past 4 years. I followed the Eurotubes guy's offers to use some newer versions of the JJ Tubes that I have in the older SCX2. I no longer need tube damper rings because they put some new ideas into the power and preamp tubes. Also the Hemp cone Lil Buddy sounds awesome even before it is broken in (so to speak) (Looks like I may need a new set of JJ's for the older amp which now sits in my shed and will go unused except practice time on the days my wife is home at guitar practice time). Question for my friends on this forum in the BIAS setting. The instructions say to set the BIAS at more than 40 MV. I checked to setting and it is set at 52 MV so I left in like that. My older amp I set at 39.5 MV because I misread the instructions thinking I needed to set the older SCX2 at or near 40 MA

US guitarist Al Di Meola suffers a heart attack on stage
desertbluesman replied to Synthaholic's topic in Guitar Forum
He is playing all over the world and happily gigging since a month or so after the heart attack. I am a follower of his page on Facebook so I get daily notices of what he is up to. -
Received the Eminence hemp cone 10" Lil Buddy today. Tomorrow I put in the new JJ tubes BIAS the amp for the new tubes. Before inserting the amp back into the cabinet, I will install the new Lil Buddy. The break in will be long and tedious because I won't be able to push it hard with loud volumes. The last time I did this with the other amp that I have been using for the past 4 years, I let my nieces boyfriend perform with it for a long set at much higher volumes than I would be able to use in my community. He thanked me profusely for letting him use the amp, I told him he did me a favor as well, and thanked him for breaking the speaker in for me 😆 (one hand washes the other).

I may have had a Gretsch guitar early on in my guitar playing odyssey (Mid 1960's). I was into Les Paul's at the time so the Gretsch did not sound like a Les Paul or SG, so I probably sold it without appreciating it's unique qualities. I was heavily into Chet Atkins and other country pickers, that is probably why I tried the Gretsch. Oh well we live and learn.........

Yep it makes the lick sound more human to have those bends and slides. I use slides and band quite a lot, never lifting my fingers off the strings unless I am doing full chords on the clean channel.
-
I wash my hands very thoroughly before I play guitar. That does the trick for me.

I watched the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show 60 years ago. And whenever they were on the tube thereafter. I was not an instant admirer of the Beatles until Sargent Pepper. I drove to Atlantic City New Jersey to buy that album and also bought the 8 track tape so we could listen to it on the way back to Long Beach Island New Jersey. I also got the Are You Experienced Hendrix album that day. Until that trip to AC, I was a died in the wool a-Capella singer and fan. But The Beatles, Hendrix, and Cream were my go to guys from that trip to AC and bought the albums above.

Slightly used Fender Super Champ X2 on its way here.
desertbluesman replied to desertbluesman's topic in Guitar Forum
I have been using the new acquisition (Used SCX2), it is a 2012 manufacture date and it stinks of dust lightly. Tomorrow is cleaning day. I will take out the speaker, and tubes, and dust it. I can still send it back until Monday. I hope I can get it cleaned up easily. Thought it is a little old. It sounds pretty good, I was able to get inside using Fender Fuse and set it up like my just fixed one. I may still buy an Eminence Lil Buddy and some JJ Tubes. I will pull the trigger on the speaker Monday. Or whenever it shows up at Sweetwater. Right now I have it almost sounding like the just fixed SCX2 by turning the Trebles all the way down. and adjusting the middle control in Fuse. (There is no middle hardware control) I do believe that the amp was never used or only slightly used. But 12 years of sitting unused has probably been a dust collector. If I do buy the Lil Buddy speaker I will use the new acquisition until I break the speaker in. Then I will swap them out ever month or so. I did get my SCX2 back from Hunt Amps today as well. $80 bucks for the new input plug which is pretty reasonable considering the complexity of the repair. It works great. -
Slightly used Fender Super Champ X2 on its way here.

Got the used one today. It looks clean and unused like they said. It sounds like tin, like they all do. In a week I will order the needed Hemp cone speaker, and a new pedal channel/reverb switch from Sweetwater. And some JJ tubes from Eurotubes. (Another $200 to add to the cost of the amp) All I can say is; these little SC x2's are my all time favorite amps. This is my 3rd SCX2 and they all sounded like crap with the standard speaker. In fact I still have the OEM speaer from my being repaired SCX2. -
RIP Toby

Slightly used Fender Super Champ X2 on its way here.

If the SC X 2 I just bought works OK. I am gonna order a new Lil Buddy hemp cone 10" speaker $119, some JJ Tubes $80, and a Foot switch $26.99 immediately after I try the amp. I will also get my settings from the repaired amp if I get it home on time (I have the Software on my computers Fender Fuse) I can remember all the settings that I did back in the day but getting them from the old computer will work quicker. -
Pulled the trigger on another Super Champ X2 a slightly used model and am awaiting a new Eminence Lil Buddy 10" hemp cone speaker to arrive at Sweetwater for the new SCX2. I hope to have 2 working SCX2's within 2 weeks or so. I have been using my Egnater Tweaker 15 watt head with a pedal board in front. It sounds almost as good as the SCX2 but not quite. I bought it from Gear Exchange following advice from my guy at Sweetwater. If Lowell Hunt comes through with a repair on my present SCX2, I can then put my Egnater Tweaker 15 watt head up for sale locally.
-
+1 on Larryz's post just above. I still have a few multi efx and amp modeler pedals that I would actually use if I was playing out. But for the most part I just use Reverb and overdrive pedals.
-
In the mean time, I am using my Egnater Tweaker 15 watt Head with a Cannabis Rex 12 in one 1-12 cabinet and an EVM 12L in another 1-12 cabinet so I have 250 watts of handling capacity with my 15 watt tube amp head pushing about 1/5th the volume the amp can put out. I got'er set so I don't need ear plugs to practice. I did however get a chance to tweak my settings on my pedal board and amp head a bunch this morning with a fine tuning of the controls on the amp and pedals E-mail from Lowell Hunt Below Hi Dave, Thank you for choosing Hunt Amplification to work on your Fender Super Champ X2, serial # 1742384. I took the amp over to Hunt Amplification over in Phoenix this morning. http://huntamps.com/ He says that he can fix it, and will have it for me this time next week or so. He is overwhelmed with amp repairs as his reputation in this area is stellar. I had him work on my Hot Rod Deluxe about 5 years ago he did a wonderful job on that amp.
