stillplaying
What is the median age of the audience? Love this thread and your specific request for a particular average. Just to clarify, on this thread, Standard Deviation will not mean changing the chords to "Mack The Knife" but will refer to a number representing the spread around the mean average. ProfD
Instead of asking musos, it would be wise to ask females between 16-60 years old what song(s) they would want to hear being performed by a pianist/vocalist. As you might imagine, I can't use them all simply because my voice doesn't go well with many (I would even say most). I can sing Levon and Tiny Dancer and Border Song pretty well, but I just can not sing Honky Cat well at all. Would love to do that one if I could sing it. CEB
You and I - Lady Gaga. Maybe I'm Amazed - McCartney (granpa song also but I like doing it) Unconditionally - Katy Perry It Will Rain - Bruno Mars A couple of crossover country/pop tunes. Doesn't matter which ones pick ones that peak at the top of the charts .... they all sound alike. Middle aged women like Journey. Maybe Faithfully or Dont Stop Heaving. Theo Verelst
I was skimming over the suggestions out of interest and couldn't help wondering if the suggestors would sing some of those great songs themselves, too. I mean I don't know, I've dabbled in the territory recently a bit myself (not out on any performance recently, though) and I wouldn't think it's easy to get a JT song across, unless you're willing to stray very far interpretation-wise. I like to try one day, but just for some gig, unless you'd be experienced with that, "wild horses" and some of the other great songs/performers aren't exactly easy.. I've tried playing and singing Jerry Lee Lewis songs from Last Man Standing a while ago, but I suppose that is a bit lame suggestions in the same vein, too. Maybe check out some 80s and 90s radio play lists and get stuff from John Hiatt to Sade, from Oasis to Sheryl Crow, etc, and of course Beatles (the only song I recognized from the OPs list) would be cool. Some Queen songs probably would be great, they're still popular and good, but that's hard to, depending on if you use MIDIs, prerecorded tracks, etc. I've never done that, I'd try some of those songs at only the piano if I'd feel the need to, but that's a challenge! Adan
Have to know your audience. 30-60 is useful info, but whether they want to hear sinatra or billy joel, only you can judge. Might be best to be ready to mix it up. This is a good site for chords to Bowie, Joel, and Bruce. Accuracy seems pretty good. http://www.lovebolts.co.uk/ Gigging: Crumar Mojo 61, Hammond SKPro Home: Vintage Vibe
