  1. I am the PITA formerly known as area51recording. I too had to create a new account, but my issue was that I've been around here so long that God only knows what email account was used here, I sure haven't had access to it in forever......
  2. This past week was my first week off in months, since I came out of lockdown back in June. And damn if I didn't get it. Monday night I had a 102.5 fever, I took to bed and didn't get up til sometime Wednesday afternoon. And just like that, the fever broke and I've been fine ever since. The fatigue was impressive, I'm talking about having to strategize how I was going to get out of bed, use the bathroom, and get back (a total of maybe 15 steps) I like Paul Chambers WAY better......(I like ANYTHING WAY better).......
  3. He's Ringo. Ringo can do whatever Ringo wants. His "God Card" is punched, in my opinion......
  4. Pizza Pasta Home baked bread Macaroni and cheese In other words, all the carb laden stuff that blew me up to 235lbs, when my normal weight is around 180..... Did I mention pizza?
  5. A used Casio Px5S. I bought my second one of a friend for $500. IMO bang for the buck is stupid on this board.......
  6. When the weather is warmer (65 degrees or more) I love biking. I do 15 miles 3-4 times a week. The cold weather months are a challenge, however....
  7. How digital tracks will sound when played back is on of those A grade production matters which surely can make people aware of changing to them from an analogue "live" mix with analog amplification or as a contrasting sound when following after a "normal" or typical DAC reconstruction unprepared track. T TOOOOO weird......that's EXACTLY what this drunk chick at the bar said to me on a break from one of these gigs the other night! I'm not kidding.....word for word.....give me goosebumps.....
  8. Every time I dumb something down for lack of ability, *I* notice and it hurts. Me too. Hurts me even more if I don't dumb it down and I bone it every time I try to play it.......
  9. Well, as I said, I wasn't going to hit the "break even" point on this thing until I turned 77. I watched my dad work like a dog his whole life, finally deciding to retire at 62, only to drop dead of a massive heart attack AT the Social Security office filling out the paperwork at the age of 61.....we never know how long we have.....
  10. Be careful with your taxes for next couple years. When you retire early you're limited on how much you can make, if you make more than the limit they nail you with taxes. Yeah, that was part of the calculation too.....it's been more than a few years now that I've had an income where it would be an issue.....
  11. I got my first SS check this past Wednesday. I'm 64, but I did the math and the little bit more I would have gotten by putting it off to 66 and a half would have taken me to like 77 to get back what I'd be leaving on the table for these 2 years. Kind of sucks, but it was my call to play the typical musician game of showing very little, ahem, official income all these years....still, it's a nice bump every month, that's for sure.....
  12. Yeah, I'm not nearly as outgoing as people think I am after having seen me on stage with my original band. I'm the same way, which I think actually appeals to my wife. I don't think she would dig it if I were as animated in the rest of my life as I am onstage......
  13. Between this and a few other, ahem, public missteps, I'm beginning to think that, in spite of his considerable musical gifts, there's a distinct possibility that Mr. Clapton might be a tool......
  14. Annnnnd.....we're not getting out of here without THIS..
  15. Re: salting the tip jar.....I go with a single $5 bill....if I put $1's in there it seems I get a bunch of $1's. Anything bigger than a $5 is intimidating.......
  16. Hey y'all.....this wasn't a thread about, "Starting to do a piano bar gig.....what should I play?" I was merely mentioning that these songs are a big tip hit for ME, and was just wanting to compare notes. Sorry for the confusion!
  17. Cool. Not trying to be a d*ck, but I've been doing this as my bread and butter gig for 20 years, so "Learn to read the room" is a done deal. I wasn't looking for advice, I was just curious.......
  18. I think you misunderstood the question. I absolutely do all of that, but I find that those 2 songs seem to be cash cows, and that's across pretty much ALL ages of and genres of audience. I was curious if anyone else doing the gig saw a similar trend.....Probably #3 on my list would be Tiny Dancer, by the way.......
  19. I've been doing the piano bar thing since around 2002, and in that time I've found that for me, 2 songs stand out head and shoulders above the others when it comes to $$$ hitting the tip jar: Piano Man (no brainer there, I always joke that it's the piano bar national anthem and, since the place I play is at a casino, I say that it's a state gaming regulation that I play it at least once a night). the other one is Linus and Lucy, which I get more requests for now that it's holiday time, but really it's a year round thing as well....anyone else?
  20. The dude from Spinal Tap HAS to be up there......he uses both hands.....
  21. This, 100%. If you are in the right place stylistically, you're probably right where the real guy is, who's probably not going to play the same thing note for note every time anyway.......
  22. Hilarious. I was just about to type in "Worst name: Swinging Richerd (sic)" I guess I just did. No offence intended.... I'd have to be a major wanker to be offended by THAT, wouldn't I? ;-)
