He is a big advocate of saving money and as a consequence his favorite car for reliability is Toyota/ Lexus, followed by Honda, Ford F150 and a few others None of the cars you anticipate are on his reliable - over- 100000 miles - list. Ever since test driving a tiny and lowly Fiat electric.. I have liked electric cars. The other day I was admiring a sax players electric car from Kia. He said it was great, except one had to be much more thoughtful about when and where you are refueling. It sounded like it was an issue for him.

In a small venue, yes, you can often get more sonic and positional clarity on sounds by putting them into their own speakers, And if this appeals to you, you might want to rethink your premise, "I am not of the school of separate bass amp" especially since you mentioned "bass in another" in particular. Similarly, if I were not so averse to bringing more gear, I'd bring a Spacestation just for organ. Organ sounds better through that than through my traditional PA speakers, just as my bass sounds better through a bass amp than through those speakers. Plus, taking the bass out of the main speakers tends to make everything else that IS going through the main speakers sound better, especially if I find I need to drive them harder. Perhaps yet another reason to consider a separate bass amp. It seems like it could be somewhat self-defeating to say "I don't want to do X" and then list things you'd like to improve that could possibly best be addressed by x. Hmmm, I have tried an actual bass amp for left hand bass.. I have heard from a few locals who also subscribe to this apparent logic. Problem is I was not impressed. BUT, I didn't try the separate amp for bass, that often. I guess I can try again. But I guess for tracks ( I am relatively new to playing MIDI tracks ) this means routing bass parts into the bass amp as well? I have a suspicion the Separate organ amp would be cool too. And a Fender like amp for Rhodes as well. But having said all that, I am still wondering about the chords when playing piano and strings, and how clear each note would be. I have some kind of distrust of the Tyros in this regard... leaving separate bass amp out of consideration. I am not stubborn.. so, I am going to use one 12 " bass amp and 2 10" qsc to see if the chords are clearer.

I gather from your frequent posting here that you're at least 60 years old and you've never mentioned having children. If that's about right, then one could argue that you were in the luckiest generation. You enjoyed the fruits of industrialization and mega-transportation while being minimally affected by the consequences. So perhaps it's reasonable for you not to care. I have children, so I can't not care. I have to figure out the facts as best I can, and triangulate from those facts towards a solution. It's not easy. Just figuring out which sources of information is not easy, and in fact it's getting harder because there are so many more sources than there used to be. But I owe it to my children (and, I would argue, to other people's children) to make the effort, and to err on the side of caution. That means if some people say there's a problem and other people say there isn't, and I can't despite best efforts know which side is right, I owe it to my children to assume that there at least might be a problem. I believe in what I like like to call . . . well, I'm not sure what to call it. How about coincidental synergies. For example, an electric car isn't just better for the environment, it's also better for your lifestyle. At least, it is for our lifestyle. Now I know that's not true for everybody, but it's true for a lot of people, and a lot of those people for whom it would be true don't yet realize it. They're still driving gas cars just because they always have, or because they think it's more macho, or a bunch of other reasons that don't stand up under scrutiny. It's a free country, you can do what you want. But the world is changing. To me, there's something genuinely exciting about changing with it. I am not clear what you are saying... and I have no issue with that.. But yes, No kids. Change is inevitable, it is not unique.. to your group.. it will always change whether we like the change or have anything to do with those changes. Change in and of itself, is not necessarily good or bad. maybe you view speed bumps as good... maybe they are... but they go against pollution concerns. What is more important, a kid not speeding and hitting another kid, or air pollution ? DOE KNOW, nor care. It is entirely out of my hands, and yours. Solution??? Solution to what end? Less pain... I am all for it! But that gets really complicated, doesn't it? Electric Cars... none of my business... they will either happen ( destroying gas cars) or not... none of my business, or anyone here. Another way, is very relevant, traditionalists, and modernists, even post modernists. What I am saying is people see this world and "solutions" very very differently,, not just old folks and young ones. It's a big diverse ( not gender, religions and ethnicity, but psychologically diverse) world.. and the younger need to understand the traditional types are young just like them, and are not going anywhere.

As a hypothetical.. IF your voice was in one speaker Strings /pads in another, bass in another, EP in a boxy Fender cab, and you get the idea. Would that have a certain charm, a certain clarity? To exit the hypothetical... I play a tyros, and when I play a middle C range chord, for example, there is something missing in the sound to me... not exactly muddy,, but I am not hearing the chord tones in the way I would if playing a real piano. There is something missing; and I am not even talking about stereo fields or anything like that, just the clarity of individual voices, basses too.

I sure as heck do! I go a few steps further than that, even. I find the old standards, to be very helpful. I also go even further back than those, and any simple melodic idea, is worthy of attention. Basically ANY melodic idea, no matter how "simple" is worthy of attention. I am frequently hearing melodic ideas, as unexpected as the theme from Bonanza ( at first, I disliked both the show and the music, but I have grown since then) ... I will see how quickly I can mentally play this song in any key. Pick any random note, and if possible, ignore KNOWING what key you are in, and just dive in and see if you can mentally or physically play, Theme from Blue Danube, Bonanza, Flintstone, It's Now or Never ( from an opera I believe ) Happy Birthday, even. It makes not difference. The trick is see how instantly you can play these melodies without thought. The standards are wonderful areas to do this with. Now, a song like Lush Life is difficult in original key, so hold off on that level of complexity! . Stick with simpler melodies for a while. I can actually hear Maestro Harris saying those words, "Simple things". You have to be able to play music effortlessly... and we are not genius players, yet. So learn to play simpler things flawlessly, effortlessly. The rhythm of your phrasing, will thank you.

I am among the don't bother me about environment hype, types. Here's why. I remember ages ago, when cars had the potential to get better gas mileage.. I remember this thru different stages... Smaller cars way back when... a car running on H2O... I met a guy for Georgia who told me about this. AFTER these old recollections, the SUV came into vogue. Excessive Speed bumps, , excessive red lights. excessive stop signs. These things are debatable, but the larger perspective is... I was born into the combustion engine era, I am WHOLLY NOT responsible for what the fat cats decide to do with my, our, transportation needs. Had I been born in another era, I would be horse and buggy. I completely reject those in power telling me about my responsibility in regard to transportation. Many of you all, have bought into it, NOT I. I will tell you, though what does upset me, in the broader context of responsibility .... waste management.. Filling garbage cans, based on excessive packaging of various articles... really bugs me. But again, this goes back to govt level.. If one crazy bastard decides to poison his wife, do the rest of us have to endure Tylenol proofing on an endless amount of packaging? Same idea with speed bumps ( which cause pollutants with brake pads and fuel ) , because some teenager misbehaves, we all have to endure far too many speed bumps which waste fuel, and pollute. My other question: My dealer said my Kia battery replacement is NOT a factory battery but a famous battery brand I cannot think of- ( edit: interstate ) . The price of this battery is in the neighborhood of $270. Can I get the equivalent battery quality for less? My original battery with 50,000 miles on it ( and a little life left ) was abused by my sitting with engine turned off, key on, listening to long youtube videos through the radio and iPhone. I was surprised it lasted as long as it did, given the misuse. But Kia does not supply the same Kia battery, and want $270 for an interstate I believe!

I am irrationally drawn to Hemi Dodge stuff. I have heard bad reports on Dodge.. but love the Dodge Charger of today. My friend wants to sell me an old Durango with Hemi in it.. but 11mpg .. oh well. OT , well not that OT, my Kia is a late model 4 cylinder GDI engine. I assume it is true that GDI leaves nasty deposits. One guy Scotty Kilmer says go with an Oil Catch Can for GDI. Any opinions on this catch can on a warrantied Kia.. where there are so many computers, maybe putting a catch can, might be a catch 22? Catch my drift? My other friend says the computers on cars today are so sensitive to modification of any sort, a catch can might be a problem.

Was invited to drive a friends Fiat all electric car... Fiat 500 something or other... I was shocked that though small, it was fun, with a heavy door, nice visibility and fast acceleration. Complete surprise. These cars that are low to the ground are no fun for visibility. No fun for scraping on the awful roads we have. Stiff suspensions are no fun when you encounter a hole in the road. Visibility is close to a number one feature in a car. I am a "spirited" driver, and a tiny short car is the best for cutting in and out of traffic. My second fastest car was a 2005 Subaru STI 300 hp w 6 speeds. But my fastest, was a Datsun 280 Z.. Ask me why!

Can ear wax guard against ear damage from loud music?

First of all, No FOH considerations... that's for a later question. Better than average music understanding, but way under average understanding of daisy chaining and mixer scene.. setups. This stuff is Greek to me. No offense to our Greek members. I mean I do what is obvious when dealing with 2 speakers, but when the number goes beyond 2, I am lost. I did also mentioned this in thread opener, but my friend likes to add his iPad to the whole shooting match as well. I have no idea how to optimally connect cables for his ipad and mixer, plus my keyboard outs. I would like to have control of which sounds go where, and maybe eq options. I have asked this before, and I am still never clear... is a $150 mackie 6-8 channel comparable to an A&H 8ch ?

I may have asked a variation of this conundrum-like question previously.. I plead guilty if I did. I play left hand bass, ( I am not of the school of separate bass amp, as mentioned in another thread here... bass through all, suits me fine ) and sometimes play MIDI Songs through my single keyboard. I own 2 k10's and the Bose L1 Model 2 with beefy B2 speaker. My friend said the Bose mixer ( $500 ) is not that cool, and he recommends going another route. How can I have my keyboard routed to the Bose ( with or without the Bose tone match mixer ) plus the 2 K10's? There are occasions when my friend wants to add his powered speaker because he plays his ipad through that speaker and wants to be in my system as well. Pretty mind boggling for me. I am considering buying another mixer with presumably more than 2 outs. Allen Heath and Soundcraft were suggested by my pianist friend.
