Macle, Once again, I'm way impressed! Great songwriting, inventive arrangements, really well recorded, and you sing great. Not a whole lot else left to critique is there? About the only thing I could point out is that the drums have some mud somewhere in the 400-500 range, you might want to roll some of that out. I think it's mainly in the toms. But anyhow, you rock!! Archibald, Your stuff is really intriguing too! Very cool! The only room for improvement I notice in the recording is that a lot of the tracks sound overcompressed, especially the vocals. Sounds like you might be overloading the 2-mix a bit because of that. I really like the performance though! --Lee

It's easy to visualize a club full of heads bobbing as you listen to Trax . Check them out and see if you don't agree. Also thanks Gus for listening to \"A Mother's Love\" . Do you have a similar celebration as Mother's Day in Mexico? Here's some stuff recorded at my studio. I would welcome all comments. "Conservation of Mass" from the Montreal progressive rock band "Hamadryad" was recorded, mixed and co-produced by yours truly and since its launch last month, is receiving rave reviews from prog sites all over the world. Their homepage is www.hamadryadmusic.com This album blends 70's symphonic progressive ( Moogs, Mellotrons, 12 strings and B3) with a dash of prog-metal guitars. Samples are also available at www.mp3.com/hamadryad If you prefer more relaxing music, check out www.patrickbernard.com This Algerian born new age multi-instrumentalist sings in Sanskrit. The album "Sublime Relaxation" was tracked and mixed by me! and I even make a cameo on slightly distorted slide guitar. Andy

I've been working my way back to writing and demoing country songs. Thought I'd throw this in here. It's the first thing I've finished using the VTP-1 that Dan South graciously sent my way. http://www.csonline.net/wfturner/NothingOnThisSideOfHeaven.html The Real Audio version as some artifacts. I have trouble bringing myself to squash my country music enough to minimize them. ------------------ William F. Turner Guitarist, Composer, Songwriter

William Turner, I tried to listen to your new material but couldn't connect to the site. Will try again at a future date. Macle96 - Anybody ever tell you that you sound a lot like John Lennon? It may be a demo, but I think you could release Joke as is. It sounds great. The music has a bit of Beatles vibe - cool! My only suggestion would be to simplify the bass part slightly. It's great that it has a lot of energy, but in a couple of places it was a little too insistent. I'd pull it back no more than 5 1- 10 percent. Great work! Bill Turner... Can I call you Bill, by the way? "Nothing On This Side Of Heaven" is a lovely song. It immediately brought back memories for me of a certain lady that I loved dearly, who got away from me. Your lyrics are so honest and true. I would love to do house track with those lyrics. Would you mind? Email me through my website, and we can discuss it. Of course, we can register everything through ASCAP to make sure that you're fully compensated. I'll do it on whatever terms you're comfortable with. It's a beautiful song, poetry, really. It's a song that I would love to sing. Thanks Curve. Bill works. Emailed ya. I try to look at all I write as poetic, not cause I'm all that intelligent, crafty or witty, just cause if I wear the poetic hat, I can justify to myself not digital tuning my old gruffy voice. Hi Mr Anderton.Hi everyone! Apologies. I meant to reply to this thread but I accidentally hit the new topic button...oops! First of all let me thank you all for setting up this wonderful site and this lovely idea of a thread. I'm a home recordist and do aspire to record my own songs. I do face situations where I don't know where else to go, what else to do what to add or remove from a performance or a recording. I would like to seek your second opinion about the songs that I've put up at; http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/26/embryo.html I seek your advice and comments and thank you in advance for your kind attention. I hope you'll enjoy the songs and sounds along the way. Looking forward to your correspondences. embryo

I know his is WAY late, but I just have to comment: I used to really value Curve Dominant's opinions on this forum. But after reading all this slamming and misinterpretation of Chip's posts, I will be skipping over anymore of the wanna-be-ghetto-speak-but-most-likely-grew-up-in-the-suburbs coming from the Curvster. What an ass.(My opinion of your opinion of his opinion)

What an ass.(My opinion of your opinion of his opinion)
Duhduh, While I firmly believe you are entitled to your opinions... I think you're making a mistake in writing off Curve based on the banter on this thread. - First, I think Curve and Chip have "made up", (if Chip can "get over it" why can't you?). - Second, Curve's evolved (like we all do) into a happier version of himself and he's sharing the vibe with one and all, (see the Upward Spiral thread), read any of his recent posts... not one trace of the "objectionable" Curve... - Third, the guy's from the city - not the suburbs... if he wants to float the local dialogue, he's doing it from his "real life" not some wanna be fantasy. - Fourth, as you basically acknowledge, he's been a sharing and productive voice on these boards for the majority of his time here... What... you never said something you later wished you hadn't... But here... our words follow us around for good or bad... Don't get me wrong. I think Curve got a little out there in his banter with Chip, but I'd rather have people with a little passion and fire around here, (even if I don't agree with them), than a bunch of people who all agree with each other like a pack of sheep. So, let me say it again. I respect your right to blast Curve for his posts on this thread, but if you're saying that because of it you're not not interested in anything "else" he has to say... aren't you being "an ass"? What you think of Curve, the person, is up to you. He can be passionate and rambunctious at times, and that may not sit well with all audiences. But do yourself a favor and check out Curve the musician, even if you don't care for Curve the debate participant. The guy's got some talent and some interesting ideas. Isn't that what this thread is about? It gives us a chance to react to each other's music for a change, instead of simply reacting to each other's banter.

Yes I agree. Keep in mind that I started reading from page 1 and by page 4 or 5 was when I posted that. I just now reached page 12 and feel I CERTAINLY spoke too soon. I had heard Curve's music before reading these posts. It just really rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize.

Duhdah, Guitplaya, and my mainman Danno, It's all good. Those conversations earlier in this thread were misunderstood a little bit. That's just the way we talk to each other here on the East Coast, and it's usually not taken personally, unless you can't hang. I'm chillin' on that kind of language now on BBS's. Bear in mind that this is the first BBS that I've ever belonged to, having come to this global village thing a little recent. And yes, me and Chip are cool, or at least I'm cool with Chip (?). Chip's an excellent guitar player, and probably an excellent teacher as well. We had some minor differences over some minute details concerning style and interpretation. Big f*cking deal. Just to clear up a few details concerning the dialect that I seem to exhibit when I post: >>wanna-be-ghetto-speak-but-most-likely-grew-up-in-the-suburbs coming from the Curvster.<< I live in Philadelphia, and we all here speak this dialect. Which ghetto I grew up in is irrelevent. I've lived in the center city district for many years now, after having lived in South Philly, and before that had gone to high school in Springfield. I would luv to tell you all that I grew up on the Main Line, but if I did, I would not be a musician or composer. I would be a lawyer or a doctor or some sh*t like that. Thank God for small favors. Anyhoo, this dialect is definitely a Philly thang. You can see it even in the headlines of our local newspapers. This is where that all comes from, that "fa real" attitude, and it's just one example of why I stay here, having resisted over the years offers to re-locate to LA or NYC. Philly's fa real. There was a block party on my block today hosted by Fergie, the owner of a string of Irish bars in town including the infamous Fergie's Pub, and it was like a gathering of the families of the United Nations delagates. You could not see a more culturally diverse gathering anywhere, and it was beautiful. I shlepped my guitar rig out there, and ended up sitting in with every band that played, from 3pm to 9pm. It was when I got the rhythm section to get on a latin vibe that we really started rockin', and folks were dancing up a storm. Peeps came from as far as Nigeria to party and jam, including Yomi Jojolo on talking drums and congas. This town is on fire, so if I seem to be on fire, it's just my surroundings having an effect on me. Don't mind it. curvedominant

Macle, all i wanted when i finished listening to those 2 songs was more songs. Fabulous!!!!! If you are looking for opinions, mine would be that you should do your best to not dwell on the technicle side all that much more than you already have with those tunes. Demos? They are excellent and they sound good. I think the production as it is, is suitable to the style. I am a very criticle listener and i was quite fulfilled with those tunes the way they are. Don't forget how most people listen, they feel, they don't nitpick. Make more music Please. I look forward to hearing it.

Well, its the next day and Im listening to this Bossa-Nova version of Aqualung and The Reaper. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. My hats off to you, Bruce Lash. That blues tune was quite impressive, as well. I had to get my wife to listen to that just to tell her it was digitally done with sampled drums. She couldnt believe it. Totally fooled me! Well, I've been on this thread once before (back around January or February), but we've come up with 3 new tunes since then. I'd like to see what your reactions to them are. Your opinion carries a lot more weight with me than those of non-musician listeners - - Hopefully I can get suggestions that will improve my music in the future. Our newest tunes are: Life Song Get To Know Me Fazed We're at http://www.mp3.com/tangent I'd appreciate any constructive criticism on arrangement, music, sound, mix and mastering - - we did it all ourselves. Thanks! - Philbo

I suppose I call them demos cuz I'm paranoid about the recordings, not really being an engineer and all. Technical stuff sort of goes in one ear and floats out the other, no matter how much I try to learn it. So...I really appreciate what you're saying. Thanks again, Macle

Tangent/philbo2 - The drummer establishes a nice, laid-back groove in Fazed, but everybody else seems a little out of sync. This would be a great tune if you could tighten it up a bit. Life Song was tighter - nice textures. Boy Girl Radio/archibald3 - Hey man! Where's the girl? Winnebago Dreams is an awesome song. Is sounds totally pro all the way. I wouldn't change a thing. 140 Leagues is a little more "out there"; reminds me of Phish in a way. You guys (and girls?) have a great sound. eggman/Embryo - Conversation sounds like a more cutting edge version of U2 from the Zooropa era. Koto Stream is a beautiful groove; it makes you smile. Hope you'll turn it into a full-fledged song sometime. You can find my material at http://www.mp3.com/DanSouth (new stuff coming soon - I promise!)
