Bill, Yeah that's the Yamaha. Very cool box. Not a whole lot I could do about certain things sound-wise in the drums, because I didn't have any real overheads to work with. But that's OK, like you say, it IS a live gig after all and for the drummer to be really pumped up at the end and beat the crap out of the cymbals is all right with me. I like the keyboard and guitar thing, total 60's vibe, sort of reminds me of The Beatles' Taxman or The Word or the part in I'm Looking Through You where it goes "ching-ching deedledy ditdit". (What kind of keyboard is that, btw?) Sounds like a fun band. macle http://angelfire.lycos.com/rock2/3songs

Figured you might like the tune, Macle! Well, he used a Vox Continental on the album but that's not what he uses on stage... his live organ is some tiny, cheesy little pawn shop special, I don't even know what brand it is. But yeah, they are really fun, sometimes they do goofy stuff like have puppet shows on stage. Their own site is http://www.orangehat.com if you want to find out more about them. Here's another live cut if you wanna listen: http://lflier.home.mindspring.com/Cartoon_Dead.mp3 --Lee

>ahem< http://www.mp3.com/larrybones If you guys have time, check it out and hit me with some feedback. We've been focusing on producing tracks for other artists for a while and this is some stuff we've been coming up with. Some of you might remember me as JahNeric MC from the Exiles, I've seen a few familiar names around here. Anyway please give us a listen. thanks! Dan http://www.mp3.com/larrybones
Originally posted by Anderton: robotobon@home.com - Angel Eyes Hey! Don't hide the vocals. The level is pretty much okay on peaks, but I'd recommend some compression to bring up the lower level parts, as well as the "human voice" artifacts. The guitar stuff is way cool. I'd like to see a better connection between the intro and the beginning of the song; I understand you were probably trying for a "Disconnect" type of effect, but it's just a little TOO disconnected for my taste. Toward the end, a little more doubling on the vocal, with processing added to the double, would help sustain interest. Good job, though, something different is always welcome.
Thanks for your feedback Craig. I agree on everything you said. It's just a little demo made about a year ago on an sblive. Since then I've goten a Delta 1010, but haven't had the chance to redo it. A little tech: the drums were mixed mono ona Spirit LX7 mic'd with 57's to the left side of the sblive. The guitar was mic'd with a 57 and went to the right channel. Later I used vegas to Haas pan the guitar track and overdubbed the vocal with an Audix small diaphram condensor, which was a big mistake. The drums were processed in T-racks for that cool compressor it has. The guitar is Tuned A A Db A Db E. Hopefully we'll get to remake that demo and play around with more connecting parts like you suggest. Thanks again! -rob

Hey anybody, I put a RealPlayer version up of "Trip", so you don't have to download the mp3. Sound quality is worse, but whatever, please give a listen, and tell me what you think. Thanks very much, macle http://angelfire.lycos.com/rock2/3songs

I find this thread very intimidating... mostly from the size of it... and it will take me forever to wade through the other posts and hear the other tunes on offer. But... I'll add my $0.02 worth... see what happens... My own versions of "anti-music" can be found at: www.mp3.com/stereofect The main focus of my (((stereofect))) project is the creation of soundscapes and sonic experiments through the manipulation of found sounds. I create deep space ambient works that act as backdrops or wallpaper. Some are created to add ambience to situations, some are created to act as musical interpretations of fact and fiction while others are created simply for the purpose of manipulating the listener. Anywho... if you wanna check it out, by all means feel free. Cheers!! StevieB

Well, it seems my RealAudio files are working now...so, I'll post the links. These are ruff demos...and when I listened to the .ra files, they sounded kinda distorted (don't know what the hell happened). Drum machines...the whole schmidt. Ruff...not polished. I'll try polished versions with a real drummer (a wink in Lee's direction) soon... http://www.geocities.com/tedsblues2/phdweb.htm Try not to barf...don't listen if you've just eaten anything heavy...

macle96: I liked your "trip" song. Kinda like your a neo-hippy or somthing. The only production issue I had was it felt like in the choruses the drums needed to be louder and more driving. The guitar kinda drowned out the groove (and I am all for loud guitars). StevieB: I like your stuff a lot. Totally the kinda stuff I listen to when I have time to sit around and enjoy music...have you heard Coil? You might like them. Master Zap: $30000 in payback huh? damn Interesting music, I like the drum sounds. Tedster: I listened to Fly. Nice production. A lot of people on this group are so damned happy I am jealous.

BTW... I forgot.. Listen to my stuff if you all get a chance. Not quite as uplifting as the rest of the stuff. We did it all on the Emu PARIS system at home. All the instruments are programmed except the guitars and vox. http://www.mp3.com/nocturne

Well, all my stuff is commercial, so I don't think you're care to hear it... however... My son Aiden is getting into electronica production with a PB, a PC-300 and Reason, and has some stuff posted. If you all would be so kind please listen to "Look To The Future" here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/200/aiden_bordner.html And if you like it, drop him a line. Natch, I'd be interested in any comments as well. - Jim Bordner

I have a couple of questions. The piano - is it a sample played through Reason's sampler? Also, what MP3 converter did you use?

Hey, thanks, Dan. It's all Reason, including the piano sample (which is surprisingly good, even played solo). We ReWired it into Digital Performer as a single stereo track, which I mastered for him in Waves C4 and L1 (to make it stupidly loud), and it was converted in SoundJam (Mac). - Jim Bordner

I think your right about the guitars drowning out the drums on the chorus. I knew the chorus was not really happening, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I listened after you posted, and I think your right, you can't really hear the drums. Thanks! I downloaded the Happy mp3. Not really my kinda music, but I thought it was really well done. The dynamics of the guitars are great, when they get louder on the chorus, it creates great emotion. The recording and everything sounds great. The only thing I didn't like, was it sounded like there was heavy chorus on the vocal sometimes, and maybe it was too much. No big deal though. Is that the Paris chorus? Did you use all Paris FX, or...? Also, how did you record the drums? Was this mastered? Did you master it yourself, or...? I use Paris at home as well, btw. Anyway, great job. macle http://angelfire.lycos.com/rock2/3songs P.S. I'm not happy. This message has been edited by macle96@yahoo.com on 04-06-2001 at 06:53 PM
Originally posted by macle96@yahoo.com: I listened to Superglue. I downloaded the MP3, and it sounds WAY WAY better than the lo-fi play. Really great guitars, real powerful. How did you record them? The FXs you did are also really very cool, the panning and stuff, and the bits that happen when you go into the chorus, etc. The only thing I would say to change, maybe, would be to turn the vocal up. I've got a new one up, btw, and I'd love some feedback, from anyone and everyone. It's called It All Comes Down To The Trip Your On.
Macle, Thanks for the feedback. The GTRS were recorded direct to Pro Tools thru a Langevin/Manley DVC, then processed with Ampfarm. There's was so much EQ going on, it was insane. The panning and stuff, cutting up bits and pieces of this and that on the gtr tracks are just tricks from the old days of doing remixes using a 2 track editor and lots of time. I'm one of those types that agonizes over the fiddly bits and forgets the big picture. I went to your link to check out your latest and the link didn't work. If it's changed, please post a new link. flo, I liked your stuff so much I bookmarked it. My client and I listened to all of it while we were burning CDs. Some of the clips seemed a little distorted (not purposeful); don't know if was the Mac's Soundcard or the mp3's. Most of the electronica I hear these days it all agression, this had some style to it. It evolved. cool. Jim, Your son's stuff is very well done. Have a great weekend, Frank http://www.mp3.com/spigots

Frank B]
Hi Frank, I took down the song cuz I was attempting to remix it. I'm not sure, though, if I made an improvement. Actually, I'm just not sure if this song is happening at all. Do you ever work on something for weeks, you tweak and tweak, your ears are bleeding, and then you're done, and you go, is this any good, or is it a total piece of garbage? Well, on that note...any feedback on how to improve this (re)mix, greatly appreciated! http://angelfire.lycos.com/rock2/3songs Thanks, macle

I listen to tons of electronica, but I come from a song oriented background so it's hard to just repeat or copy paste stuff . I feel it needs to evolve at least a little bit. Thanks Lincoln Ross
Hey Lincoln, I just checked out three of your songs, and I should be the one thanking YOU for sharing your excellent music. I though you were a TROMBONE player. I didn't realize that you were a KILLER VOCALIST, too!!! Kind of a baritone version of Al Jarreau and Marvin Gaye. Man, you are GOOD! The arrangements and productions are all first rate. You definitely got your money's worth out of these sessions. 'Come Together' has a nice understated intensity. I think that one was my favorite. 'Take Some Time' definitely has that Jarreau groove. Very nicely recorded. Nice sax solo, too. And 'Sha-na-na' was just too much fun. You've really got that reggae vocal thing down, and that groove is really HAPPENING! Maybe 'Sha-na-na' is my favorite - I can't decide. Great tunes - I'll be back to check out some more of your stuff!! Dan Addendum: Oh, yeah, another thing I liked about 'Take Some Time' - chord changes. Real, live, honest to goodness, this guy knows what he's doing changes, like in the Motown days (or before). Younger musicians should definitely check this one out. You don't hear that kind of harmonic structure on the radio anymore (sadly). This message has been edited by dansouth@yahoo.com on 04-25-2001 at 11:12 PM

In October of last year, my brother and I improv'd this song: Acoustic Prayer, the night we found out my Dad had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Three weeks later he was gone, and we burned a cd of this recording, and played it at the funeral. It's one take, a few warts... but the sadness we felt, we tried to capture, and I think we caught the moment. I'd welcome your thoughts... guitplayer http://www.mp3.com/acousticvoodoo

I'm still "guitplayer"!

Check out my music if you like...
