Started gigging with a B-3 and two 122’s in 1970. Went to a Univox Organizer in 1974 with a single 122 with a 147 amp. In 1979 found the Korg CX3 and the RVS II amp. Kept the amp but found the RolandVK-7. Discovered the Nord Electro, then went with the 4D for the drawbars. Now an Arturia KeyLab 61 mk II with B3X on a miniiPad and one or two QSC K12-2’s depending on the gig. None of this was done to please the crowd - they couldn’t care. This was for me only. I play like crap if I don’t hear through the speakers what’s in my head. Damn B-3 spoiled me for life, but I still get to play her every day. Life is good. AND, if the KeyLab craps out my backup is a Reface YC and a Lester K. I’ve got it covered.

Backup/Restore of B-3x presets on iPad?
lightbg replied to Sam Mullins's topic in The Keyboard Corner
While in B3X the drop-down menu has a “share” option. I share to my files then use airdrop to send to my other iPad. -
Convertible keyboard action? Has it ever been attempted?
lightbg replied to D. Gauss's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Vintage Vibe now offers a slider control to adjust where the hammers hit the tines on their Rhodes pianos, thereby allowing for sharp or mellow sounds on the fly. -
To be honest nobody from Hammond Suzuki has come over to update my 55 year old B-3 either🤪 I have B3X dialed in nicely and my only wish is that they would reinstate the Leslie animation (which they removed claiming an iPad mini couldn’t handle it). Jake

Personal favorite: McHale’s Navy. Axel Stordahl wrote the original theme, but when season three came around Frank Comstock re-arraigned it, and found the baddest bass clarinet and tuba players to kick ass with it. Even the tag at the credit roll had a different, hipper ending. Go to 3:41 for the tag theme.

Back in the day(1974) when I got my first clone - a Univox Organizer - I knew it needed a Leslie. My solution was to buy a 147 amp with the Leslie pre-amp pedal, and install these into one of my 122 cabs. A good hand truck and heavily padded cover took care of the road trauma, and the 122 amp went back in for B-3 gigs. Instead of a one size fits nothing solution offering two different amps for different situations probably would have knocked 1-2K off the price and proven more roadworthy in the long run. What do I know? Jake

I just bought an Arturia Keylab 61 from SW (since it is their keyboard month) and I don’t find the right side faders distracting. In fact the build quality is quite good and the metal frame adds to the substantial feel. Faders, encoders, and pads are quality items, the keys feel firm and playable, and the only negative is that my Yammie FC-7 won’t play nice with it, so I subbed my Moog and all is right with the world. The big plus is the software suite that comes with registering it. I planned on using it just for B3X on my iPad, but I may turn the corner and go with my laptop just for the variety of 6500 sounds…. Sorry to go off topic. Jake

You’re old enough to say no without regrets or apologies. For me the phone not ringing equates to more family time. enjoy it. -

His collaborations with brother Don were just as remarkable. My favorite is “River Song”.

As mentioned above heel and toe is the only way to go with Hammond pedals since they don’t sustain. Sometimes it’s not the notes but the feel that’s more important. You can cover with your left hand but pedals are there to be used. Wild Bill Davis taught me to treat a Hammond like a big band. Pedals = rhythm section, lower manual is Sax or trombone chords, and upper is solo or block chording. Here’s how I do it

How do you feel when a kid tears you a new one?
lightbg replied to Montunoman 2's topic in The Keyboard Corner
As a retired public school music teacher I’m thrilled that not only did his parents discover his talent, but they nurtured and encouraged it. In addition, he’s playing acoustic so he will have monster chops by the time he can legally drive. This is a good thing. Thanks for posting. -

My lazy uncle got the idea to combine a fork with a spoon. He patented it and called it the “Foon”. It went nowhere. Two years later someone tried the same concept and called it “Spork”. The rest is history…….

3 musicians are standing before the Pearly Gates. The first one, dressed in a tuxedo with tails tells St. Peter “I’m a world famous concert pianist. I’ve brought happiness to millions with my personal appearances worldwide”. St. Peter replied “Heaven is thrilled to have you here. Just walk up this road and enjoy your stay”. The second one has shades, a sax strap around his neck. “I’m jazz. I was there with Bird, Dizzy, and created the genre”. St. Peter also said “walk up this road and enjoy your stay”. The third guy is wearing a beat up tux jacket with non-matching pants and a fuzzy bow tie. “I’m a club date musician. I’ve made many brides happy and played hundreds of dinner dances”. St. Peter told him “walk up this road and enjoy your stay”. The guy takes a step when St. Peter grabs his shoulder to tell him “But bring your instruments through the kitchen”.

Beats my 2………. -
20 years ago my wife and I waddled into Chucks. They were busy as hell, but I snagged a guy and asked if I could play the “New B-3” on the floor. He said sure, and even started it for me. I fussed around with the bench and drawbars, and out of the corner of my eye I saw him nod to another salesman like saying “loser”. I then ripped into a F blues and 15 seconds later he said “dude can play!”. He brought over a guitar, plugged in, and instant jam for 10 minutes. I bought the Kong keyboard I went in for, and got high 5’s from everyone on the way out. Gotta go back someday………
