The Montage AWM2 + FM and the audio hardware onboard sounds excellent. I am not sure how much the DAC theyve chosen is playing a part. But if you A/B with budget boards like Roland FA and MOXF or Krome, theres no comparison. Id be very curious to see how much like the Montage the MODX sounds.

Its not much. So few are offering poly after touch to begin with. The pressure strip for mono AT is just to differentiate between the flagship and more affordable giggers instrument.

Sipario advanced midi router.
-
Roland did similar watering down of the Jupiter-80 to 50.
Dropping after touch is silly (imho).
I cant make out the back of the unit... is there an expression pedal input?

Wow, I can't believe how much Montage is in this half priced gigging model.
I think I said that already.
-
Not sure if there is a 61 or 88k version. This poster talks of a 76 note semi weight.

Well slap me silly and call me Sally.
I cant believe this much Montage has trickled down to sub $2k.
Big AWM2 + FMX and the motion seq stuff with the knob.
-
You can get the Yamaha Genos in 76k.
Its just as expensive as f@ck.
At some point the Montage tech will trickle into the MOX area.
But I dont expect it too soon.

Without a doubt StudioLogic was listening to player input in this design. How that equates to playing what they built - cant wait for it to get into some KC hands.

This would solve the problem of ground loops between audio/midi interface and computer through USB and MIDI equipment, possibly?
-
Perusing the Kurzweil site it seems they no longer specify what action these models are using? No reference to Fatar or Medelli TP-XXX.

It is an interesting offering at this price point.
Perhaps Yamaha caught wind of people cutting down their P series instruments for smaller/lighter travel. Its no big deal for them to make the alteration.
Less materials for about the same street price.

$549.99 street in US.

Although this thread is focusing a lot on the S9....count me in on this Dexibell trip. I just picked up a S3, barely used with the Dexibell wheeled soft case, for just over 50% of retail price.
450 mile round trip today to pick it up, way too late to start playing it tonight, but I think this little board has serious potential.
Also very impressed with the strides Dexibell has been making with the new Aqua Viva OS, cool stuff like the usb/audio connection Sven mentioned earlier. A big change is that now users can choose what is loaded at start up, and you want to load (I think) a full 1.5GB of your own stuff (eschewing the factory sounds), then you can, previously you could only load 100mb of user-chosen stuff.
These boards could end up making a transition like the Forte did, from stage piano to something with altogether more weight behind the punches. Not on the same level obviously, yet the improvements since the earlier versions are impressive!
I think there's enough horsepower beneath the hood to make this an interesting ride!
Hopefully an improved Leslie and overdrive are but a short update away...
The loading of your own samples in a common format like sf2 is welcome. I mean, what a simple solution to convert to or create what you need that the developer may have missed or not done to your satisfaction. Im impressed that this is offered on the Dexibel desktop SX7 module. Id jump on one if priced a little better and if I liked more of whats in their library beyond the acoustic pianos.
-
Respecting yor opinions,
but if I browse through this thread, I cant escape the feeling, that Dexibell would not have a chance, and you all would be dammend to deal with the mainstream manufacturers from Indonesia till doomsday.
I don't know... Dexibell is getting the same critical treatment every instrument gets from the the KC crowd. You should read the Crumar threads.

Do those motorized faders make anyone nervous, from a reliability perspective? I know the technology has been around for some time, Im just not used to seeing them in a keyboard. What if one of the motorized faders stops working? Does it remain stuck in that position or can you override the motorized function somehow?
I can imagine having presets snap into position and then being able to adjust live is very cool. Would there be a risk of fighting the motors? Maybe, but I think minimal assuming they only engage when you recall a preset. What quality or longevity the motors can be at the price point of the Combo J7? Well, it's not cheap at $2k.

They are off to a good start. The audio engine and hardware is impressive. The acoustic piano sounds are competitive. They need to work on the rest of their sample library. They're using Fatar actions like plenty of other MI manufacturers.
-
It's an interesting concept... I wonder if they had targeted $799-999 what they might have beefed up. The build, the sounds... Maybe nothing. Maybe this is just the instrument they are aiming for and intend to sell a lot of them.

Yeah, I've been feeling this way about the RH3 for a long time. Not sure I would even thumb up the $700 D1 with it against a Casio PX or Yamaha P w/ GHS - or maybe I'd say it's alright in that class.
I enjoy the RH3 in the SV1, not in the Kronos. Haven't tried a Grandstage,
I agree on this. The SV1 action works great with the onboard EP sounds. Not so much the included acoustic pianos.
-
The ES8 action is excellent for a slab DP compared to most anything if you are a piano player that grew up practicing on acoustics. It's just heavy to lug around.

The Numa Compact 2x doesn't appear to be crap, serviceable organ, piano, EPs. Sonically with what's on board it isn't going to best the VR-09b in any category (YMMV). It's real benefits are going to be price, weight, action, range after touch, and MIDI controller functionality.
