  1. I decided to get really into electronic music performance when I had severe hand issues some years ago requiring surgery. I knew that eventually my Type 1 diabetes would affect my playing to the point it would frustrate me, so decided to pre-empt that situation by looking at other ways to perform music without requiring solid keys playing all the time. I got into Maschine, Kaoss Pads, Ableton and incorporating into live performance. Almost like a DJ with keys skills. Really enjoying it actually. The nice part is that if I do go back to gigging, I"ll be able to gig at venues that like DJs.seeing as I can drop acapellas into a performance. I"ve learnt to never put all my eggs in one basket because at some point that basket is going to get punted
  2. I"m also 45 years old and can vouch for the gnarly crunchy sounds you mention. Is there any reason to change out strings of that age? I assume, like guitar strings, no guitarist would use strings of that age.
  3. My D6 has the original strings in it and I"m contemplating putting new strings in given they"ll be 45 years old. I"m seeing Ken Rich and Vintage Vibe offerings and wondered if any of you guys had opinions on what to get Also spotted Retro Linear doing stainless steel strings.
  4. Ridiculous asking prices. I"ve sold stuff that belonged to a keys player in a worldwide successful band of the 80"s, and not once did I mention who it was previously owned by to somehow get over the odds of what they were worth. It all comes across as 'naff" He"s not in the midst of another divorce again is he?
  5. My other MBP is a mid 2010 17' weighing in at 3kg, so it was a surprise to see how far they"ve come in weight. At least I could have used it as defensive weapon, not so with the new one.
  6. I"ve bought an official Apple USB-C to female USB adaptor cable. I"ll try it later. Also I notice that all the TB3 ports can provide power. I mean I don"t even know if I should be plugging in a powered hub on that basis, if the port is capable of pushing out power. It does seem hard work
  7. Your right, I just checked my cable purchase details and it just says charge cable.
  8. I"ve just upgraded from a 2010 to 2018 MBP. Tried my Belkin hub with a USB C - Mini USB adaptor cable, but none of my midi gear is being recognised although is being powered. Not sure if it"s the cable I bought or if I should get a hub with a TB3 output but with a 7 port USB 2 input on the hub for my gear. I"m way behind on modern stuff so I"ve no idea what hub I should get?
  9. All done, just a big shout out to James Brown helping me install my new cheek block
  10. I"m finding myself drawn to early flatulist music during these times. There was some great output. [video:youtube]
  11. It"s a good idea on the surface, but many techs will not share knowledge, either because they do it as a business, or they just aren"t the divulging type. Not just in the keyboard field and not just in this age. Hammonds are susceptible to lack of knowledge as people die off, given the hybrid nature combining both electrical and mechanical aspects of the old organs. You need a jack of all trades with a good brain to fix those. I"ve put loads of videos up on YouTube for my refurb of my C3. More a diary and reminder to me to what I"ve done than anything else, but it shows what can be done. Granted I leave the high voltage side to my old man who knows his way round high voltage equipment.
  12. The only person you can listen to is yourself. Too many not so hidden agendas from government to open up. If you don"t do it for the money, I really can"t see any point getting back to gigging until there"s a vaccine, especially if your over 40 and carrying health issues. Surely the experience of a gig at the moment has to be extremely low on energy and the hassle and heightened anxiety would make it tedious. Of course the youngsters will do the gigs, but you have to pass the baton on to the younger guys at some point, certainly until it"s safe to go back into it with a vaccine.
  13. [video:youtube] Couldn"t resist! Before anyone gets the wrong idea, it was a humorous reference to age rather than the current situation with rioting.
  14. My tutorials used to be a Lowery organ with a varispeed built in tape recorder Times change!
  15. I think you need to be sympathetic to the era of MacBook your running, in terms of what software specs were within a few years of that machines release. You then have to work with that expectation I"m running a Mid 2010 17' MBP with 8GB and 500Gb SSD. It"s on the last compatible OS at 10.12, and I tend to look for older plugins in my setup. It runs happily Ableton Live Suite with Maschine VST Inside, and then running plugins both within Machine and in Ableton. But I can"t run latest Kontakt, Omnisphere etc because they are just too rich for my MBP. I"m not of the opinion that newer necessarily means better.
  16. It"s been proven through high speed cameras that droplets or rather aerosols from coughing can propel a lot further than 6 feet. In fact it can go 6 metres. Therefore you can get the virus from 6 feet away. This is a TED talk on the subject from a Prof at MIT [video:youtube]
  17. How could I have been so blind. Thank You As a side note, I do like Mackies manuals. 'Please remember: Audio meter displays are just tools to help assure you that your levels are 'in the ballpark.' You don"t have to stare at them (unless you want to). If you find that staring at the meters sends you into a hypnotic trance, please do not be alarmed. Just mow my lawn and polish my car every Tuesday'
  18. This is to record my main outs into the line input on my MBP, but at the same time I want to monitor into speakers. At the moment I am utilising headphone output of mix 5 as I"m only monitoring through headphones, so it frees up my main outs to put into MBP. I can"t use any more resources on my 2010 MBP as it"s running 128buffer on Ableton, Maschine and then recording video/audio via QuickTime movie record. This works great but as it"s also handling a 7 port usb hub, FireWire interface, I can"t get caught up with usb mixers given its age. Its to capture live performance, which it does very well when I"m using headphones through mixer, but I would like to have the ability to have two sets of main outs available in a 'soft" way - meaning cable or passive splitter box south of my performance setup.
  19. I"m using a small Mackie Mix5 mixer. I"m yet to purchase monitors but will probably go for Rokit G5s
  20. I need something to allow me to send main out of my mixer to my studio monitors and also an identical line level to the line input on my MacBook simultaneously. So essentially a 2 in 4 out. What do you guys recommend?
  21. My father who is nearly 80 lives on his own and I"m getting his food and meds sorted. He visits to pick up his shopping and have a cup of coffee, but only outside and a good 10 feet away at all times. I class him as vulnerable so visiting for essentials is crucial. But no way would he get in the house and vice versa. Of course, the weather here is nice at the moment and a half an hour chat out front is fine with me. Maybe he can visit you but with boundaries in place similar to what I"m doing? It"s tough for us all, but the sooner we kick this virus into touch by staying the hell away from everyone, the sooner we can get back to normal.
  22. Yes I"ve got one of those relays too with the coast function. I use a three position switch taken from a main/ensemble/echo unit off an A100 and put it into a standard Chorale Tremolo D switch with the coast function in the middle. It"s a nice upgrade for sure
  23. I"m not on Facebook, but there"s lots of info and helpful people outside of it to get the job done. In fact the hard works done in terms of foam/rust removal Placing keys loosely in, I won"t tighten up until fascia is back on with new upfelts in place.
