  1. interestingly, no discounts in europe, the biggest retailer has same old price with "in stock in 14 to 18 weeks".
  2. one thing about the nautilus that isn't mentioned much and you won't find on other workstations at this price point - the construction and materials are a big step up from fantom-0, modx etc. the nautilus features solid metal build with aluminium control panel, and cheeks and even the base is metal if i recall. it's really solid and rigid compared to the similarly priced plastic-fantastics. All of which makes it a much more pleasant and enjoyable experience to own and play. that cold feeling of the thick metal on the control panel, it means a lot... is it just me?
  3. wow, that's a heck of a lot of synth for $1700...
  4. Sher music has extra special deals on PDF downloads in March, including the legendary Mark Levine books. I just picked up a few jazz harmony books at great prices. https://www.shermusic.com/
  5. the legend has a nice top panel. i would prefer to put a synth or keyboard on top and use it to play the *upper* manual on the legend. just an idea you might want to explore if you've already got the gear.
  6. the model designation sh4d leads me to think there may be a sh4 incoming, which could be a nice alternative to jd-xi. a bit disappointed with the pcm section, with very limited samples and presets, none of the supernatural or zencore presets, xv5080, d50 tones or rompler sounds. these made the jd-xi and boards like the xm really great, and the MC range. sad to see it missing here, as this would have made the package complete.
  7. totally with you on that @CEB, on my effort, i used grace notes and slurs all over the place, the equivalent of bending into the notes on the guitar. for me, sliding into the scale notes is well within the rules, but I didn't give it much thought. let's not overthink it, it's just a fun exercise and nobody will be cursed if they stray outside the scale
  8. Tony Monaco, B3 legend, teacher, and a good sport has a go at the challenge. He also shares some fabulous tips for beginners. Still plenty of time for late entries!
  9. interesting, you may be on to something. wavestate is gone from thomann. but opsix and modwave still available. https://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=wavestate
  10. @zoranko WOWZERS! Only listened to the start so as not to spoil it later, but that sounded pretty darn legit to me. Great job and thanks!
  11. @KuruPrionz YES, YES, YES! Heard just a few bars at the beginning, will save the rest for when I make the video. Sounding great, thanks! Talking of which, we've got plenty of entries now for a nice collaborative video, lots of different styles and instruments. And don't think you have to be an awesome player to participate. We're all at different stages of the journey., just share with us where you're at Keep 'em coming!
  12. way to go @Al Quinnthanks for stepping up and playing! I haven't listened yet, I am saving it for when I make the compilation video.
  13. having owned and played both extensively, i would venture to say that the Yamaha blows the Nord away in features and all sound categories. With one exception, the characterful grand and uprights in the Nord piano library. But like you, I would be concerned about the potential issue of keybed longevity and maintenance. Hopefully it was just a problem on early units and Yamaha have sorted it out now. Electro uses tried and tested fatar action. some guys don't like the feel of it, but it's solid and has stood the test of time. It was surprising to me that YC73 comes with a weighted action, making it unsuitable for organ splits. if that's important, then Electro is better option.
  14. another thing. we're all really good at talking about playing music! this could be a nice way for us to hear each other actually playing music. 1000 views and 37 posts. 1 guy has played the blues scale.
  15. no worries! some of you might be too good to play a solo using just those 6 notes and that's ok! we all learn scales to help us play chords and melodies and improvise. we've all learned the major and minor scales, pentatonics and blues scales. it must be fantastic to reach the level where you can just forget all the theory and scales and play what you hear and express the emotions in your heart. I'm not quite there yet, and that probably applies to the majority of people on the board. this challenge is more intended as a fun way for those people who are still learning and eager to develop their skills and are up for a collaborative exercise! this is about playing the blues scale over the 12 bar blues, what's not to love? to the small minority of top-level pro jazz players who are dissing it, you are missing the point and please don't spoil it for the rest of us. Instead, why not upload you performance, show us what can be done, and inspire the group and help us to improve?
  16. thank you all! really glad we've moved onto making music! Here is the video that inspired all this. If you really want to understand the blues scale and how to construct licks and phrases, this is the best video on youtube, from the fabulous Tony Monaco. Please, do yourself a favour and check it out. It's long, but I guarantee you'll take something away from it.
  17. Thanks. that sums it up perfectly. Unbelievable! 🤦 This is not the "Play the best blues solo you possibly can" challenge. Nevertheless, I've heard many fabulous sounding solos, using just the notes of the blues scale. This is simply a fun exercise. The aim is also to involve less experienced players who will likely find it easier to construct a blues solo using that scale. I wonder, If I had posted the challenge on a guitar forum, they be like, "ok cool!"
  18. thanks for your interest! fear not, i'm not too strict (but the viewers will innevitably call you out) B natural in blues scale, not for me, unless a grace note. if you're playing the bebop yeanj, throw it in. no idea about natural and relative. the 5 note C blues scale played over a 12 bar blues in C is widely known as C Eb F F# G Bb That's the full extent of my musical theory knowledge...
  19. Hi, Reluctant to self promote my own content, but on the other hand, I'd love for some of you to participate, if you want... Use my backing track and do an improvisation, on any instrument, using just the notes from the C BLUES SCALE and nothing else! It's harder than you might think, well it was for me. Backing tracks here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/i-suck-at-blues-77865804 Upload your performance video to YouTube, and email me the link. I'll put all the submissions together into a compilation video and share on my channel :) Sound like fun?
  20. somewhat OT but might be of interest to some... tried the keyboard split trick with Electro 6, however doesn't work at all because the external midi keyboard mirrors the Nord keyboard and plays the same split. NE6 has mode "external to lo" which allows you to play the lower manual externally, but no "external to hi & internal to lo". i feel this is an oversight on all single manual clones, both options should be available.
  21. interesting, the split point on highest C might be the workaround here. perhaps even possible on other single manual clonewheels too which all offer only "external to low". good suggestion, thanks!
  22. 1) is it possible to connect external midi keyboard and use it to play the upper manual? user guide only mentions control of lower manual. i would prefer to use a (often crappy feeling) midi keyboard controller for upper manual and use the more premium keyboard on the hammond for lower, which is played the most. 2) no mention of drawbar presets (inverted keys) in the manual... strange ommision, is this not possible for quick drawbar registration changes? thanks
  23. I only ever use black tape to change Roland to Poland. It does pain me to promote a brand without getting anything in return. I get the same feeling when wearing a rucksack, using a laptop, riding my bicycle or driving in my car. You just have to accept you're providing free advertising. But why do keyboards and synths always have to display their brand and model name/number on the top panel for the benefit of the owner/player? I never got that and dislike it immensely.
  24. seems like as good opportunity as any
