Hey Paul, Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it. I do have one further thing to ask though. If you loved the sounds but couldn't get past the defects or quirks of the 61 key version, wouldn't the 73 key have been another option? Although not waterfall keys, I think these are semi-weighted and not the same or as heavy as the weighted 88 key versions. Regards, Anthony

OK, this came up as a suggestion on YouTube and really made my day! Billy Joel playing Just The Way You Are with special lyrics. Great Performance not to mention that you can hear just the Rhodes being played by itself without the band backing him up. So, you can see and hear what he actually plays on the song! He's singing this to Oscar the Grouch and is in great voice.

Can you elaborate on why you sold your YC61, and what your impressions were on the keyboard and sounds? Thanks, Anthony

Hello Everybody, I happened to come across this video yesterday. It's a hardware module for using backing tracks onstage. It even has an output for a click that can be sent to the drummer. There are different units available and it's sounds like a nice solution. So that you can take the load off of your laptop if also running sequences and VST's. I know Gig Performer has a playback option, but if you'd like something completely separate from a laptop, this seems to be a nice option. As the presenter indicated, you could always use 2 for redundancy. BTW, he also has video's on his channel on the usual laptop backing track setup. Enjoy the weekend, Anthony

Yamaha YC, CP, CK... what's the verdict?
AnthonyM replied to Spider76's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Thanks a lot for the replies, they were most appreciated. I think when it comes to acoustic piano though, it is hard to beat software running on an iPAD. I really do like the Royal Grand and White Grand on the Nord's. The Royal Grand is also binural. So this makes a huge difference in the way the sound is perceived. But the expense is out of my ballpark. With the Nord Stage 4 layering capabilities however, it really makes that keyboard attractive. But for organ, I like the new leslie simulation added to the YC series and the new Set List. Sorry to have gotten off topic. Regards, Anthony -

How would you compare the Organ sound from Viscount solo to the YC-73 post upgrade? If it's not a full FM synth also, I would rather have an Op-Six module or run software I already own from Arturia and Native Instruments. I'm just trying to have a strictly hardware rig in place before incorporating software. But, to be honest, I've seen a site or two which offers 80's synth patches and works hand in hand with gig performer. Narfsounds and one other, which uses multiple patches per Arturia VST. -

Yamaha YC, CP, CK... what's the verdict?
AnthonyM replied to Spider76's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Speaking of the YC Series, I was trying to put together a live rig using possibly the YC73. I'm attracted to it due to the organ updates and think the newer leslie sounds very fat and warm. Although it sounds great, it still only has 1 set of drawbars. So using it in a dual manual situation might be a little complex. I'm comparing to the Viscount solo which has multiple drawbars on the keyboard for each manual plus pedals. Also really important to me was if the FM engine was a complete synth engine when it came to non-organ sounds like emulating the older DX sounds like FM Tines etc. I read a comment above which said that it was a FM engine sans filters. For FM alone, I'm assuming I could always purchase the Korg OpSix module or go software on an iPAD should I want to introduce software into the mix. Saying that, some really nice piano's are available or an iPAD and laptop also like Ravenscroft and Pianotech. On a side note, I am a former Nord Stage 3 owner and am very unhappy that I sold it, since the binural sampling of the Royal Grand 3 was very nice. However I've also purchased PianoVerse when they were running their special offer and now that a one of the piano's can sound very close to the White Grand. Regards, Anthony -
Hello Guy's Thanks for being so helpful, I appreciate the responses. Komplete was manually removed I believe. I had hired a tech who used to work at Muse Research to fix the issue with it rebooting while searching for Komplete updates. I don't know what happened from there as this was a few years ago. I will look for the Receptor facebook group. Also I do have a drive backup, at least I think I do. My fault for leaving this unit alone for quite awhile after the reconfiguration on it was completed. I was advised by the gentleman who worked on it that Komplete and other packages would need to be re-installed. Just reread those emails after my initial post. Your right about trying to locate the backup disk image of when it was functioning somewhat properly. I'd like to know though if I was able to locate someone else's working drive and cloned it if that would actually work on mine. But I do believe all software it tied to an iLok on that unit. For example, purchasing a used Receptor not in great shape but with a working drive, cloning that and copying over to my unit. Thanks again for all of the information. I literally put thousands into this including an trade in upgrade to Trio from the original Receptor. So we are talking about a nice investment. Anthony

Hello There, I purchased a Receptor Trio which is basically new cosmetically. However, I had it "serviced" remotely years ago by one of their former techs at Muse Research and hadn't really used it since. It was rebooting when loading Kontakt Piano libraries. As I was told this was because it was looking for updates. So, this option was turned off by the tech. I had Komplete 8 on it at the time, which I now have on my Mac Mini along with the 12 Collectors Series Update. Anyway, Komplete is no longer on the device, or so I learned when starting it up again after years of not using it again. Neither are any or the other sample libraries I had loaded like Ivory, Trillion etc. So, question is. In it's present state, it is of no use. I would like to get it restored to it's factory condition, so that at least it wouldn't be a total loss of the $4,000 I invested. I wouldn't know where to start though. Basically it has some of the default factory sound software that came with it and that's about it. Not that I want to utilize it live, but don't want to take the thousands I spent as a loss, since I doubled the RAM and had the SSD hard drive replacement option done way back when I had purchased it. Any assistance would be really appreciated. I'm not even sure if a site still exist to download the installers to re-install Komplete 8 in it any longer. So, I could some assistance or referrals. Thanks, Anthony

Hi There, Has anyone done a comparison of the acoustic, electric pianos etc available in the Montage M as compared to the YC series. I'm looking at both. I know that the Montage is arguably an all around keyboard rather than a digital piano. But I was just interested to know if the sample ROM was the same, since the patch names are the same. For example, they both have CFX, Nashville, Felt and Hamburg Grand pianos, some of which were issued as an update for the YC series. So wondering if the sample set is the same or if the samples used for the Montage referred to as elements are what would be a condensed version of the sample set found in their CP and YC range. I know that the Montage has close to 10 GB of ROM where I believe the YC Series has about 3 GB. To be truthful, when playing in a live band situation, no one would probably notice any difference. But in a solo piano context I was just wondering. Also the YC has an Organ update that makes it a very strong bottom or top keyboard. It also has the FM engine like the Montage M. Added to that the 88 key has a wooden key action and I've seen opinions on YouTube that the 73 and 61 key waterfall actions are very nice. I've seen the YouTube video's on both, but still am undecided about which way to go in trying to put together a live rig. Was wondering also how that 61 key waterfall action compares to the Nord Stage 3 Compact. I've also just purchased a Korg Wavestate SE and had purchased the Wavestate module for synths sounds after watching video's presented by Maik Schott on YouTube - 80's sounds. I know someone has mentioned him here before. His programming is fantastic. But purchased the keyboard also to control and switch off between multiple song patches live as there are multiple patches per song. Your thoughts please: Montage M on the bottom with YC73 or 61 on top or YC88 on the bottom with another keyboard like the Wavestate SE on top. Also have a ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe and a Novation Summit so just trying to put together the best rig I can to cover all of the bases. Right now I am missing the Meat and Potato's sounds. Will post another inquiry on using software - how many of you are actively using it live. Have seen some sound developers offering patches using the Arturia X Collection which I've just purchased a subscription for on SPLICE. One of these developers, NARFSOUNDS is doing his programming using this suite of software along with Gig Performer, although he also has a Mainstage program bank and hardware Montage, Motif, Nord and Fantom banks available. Am very hesitant about using software live to run sequences and backing tracks. But if only having 1 keyboard player in a live band, all of the parts can't be played live at once. Especially if your doing something other than Classic Rock, let's say 80's music to the present. Thanks, Anthony

Just as an FYI, I had purchased the VSL Yamaha CFX full version and have it listed for sale as a license transfer in Garage Sale with many other software titles. Some older but unused. Had purchased these but did not use them as expected. Please reply to my Garage Sale listing if interested. Thank You, Anthony

A good friend and bandmate called up from the minors
AnthonyM replied to Iconoclast's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Wow, that's really wonderful. Can't wait to check him out on YouTube! it's always great to hear of a young (or older) player with amazing talent doing well and / or landing a dream opportunity. I've seen quite a few players on YouTube in different genres that have left me memorized with both their technical ability and arrangement skills. So glad that this young man got the call for this, judging from the other comments here, its extremely well deserved! Again, looking forward to checking him out myself. Warm Regards, Anthony -
Hello Everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a very healthy and happy new year. It's been a very rough 2023 both here and abroad for many people, which makes one think about how precious people, relationships and friendships truly are in our lives. Something I think that it's easy to overlook when things are going well. Notwithstanding my hopes that the major problems around the world are addressed in a way to heal all of those people affected, I also wanted to personally send a heartfelt wish to you here on the forum and to your families and friends for good health and happiness in the new year. Kind Regards, Anthony M.

Hello Guy's - as it turns out the buyer cancelled the sale, so thanks for the answers..... but as it turns out, not necessary after all. Sorry to have taken your time with this. I saw in another thread that there is the annual Native Instruments 50% off sale.... so I guess that accounts for it. Regards, Anthony
