  1. I"m SO getting that 142/145. It"ll be the perfect post-COVID gift to myself. ððð
  2. Ha ha ha! Yes, I could feel your support indeed! ð My worst case scenario was that everything would be cancelled but I thought it would happen sooner than it did. I worked a LOT nov-dec so I"m prepared financially for this, much more than I was last year when the same thing happened. Nothing to do, I have teaching and a couple of sessions and I"ll get by.
  3. This has become a more academic question since ALL of my gigs until May have been cancelled - possibly the first six months are gone, just like that. But I thank you all for the great suggestions and hopefully I"ll be able to make this choice come autumn.
  4. I"m not a big fan of working with software synthsâ¦
  5. I have an S9 that I got for a tour in 2019. I"ve been using it quite a lot, it"s a very good midi controller as well as having great internal pianos. The problem has always been balancing the samples - I want/need a good grand, a good upright, Rhodes, Wurly and CP80. The platinum samples are great but I always have to make compromises, so my best opinion is to wait for a model with more memory. Other than that they are great.
  6. Hahaha! Well, I've been a very good kid this year... It's quite possible the Big Six is the more practical idea, but I already have a pretty integrated ITB system for mixing and tracking. The Prophet would give me access to a very easy to program synth with the appeal of a true classic for clients coming to the studio. OTOH with the Flock patchbay I could easily route sounds through anything and everything before going to the computer, and I really like SSL preamps (I'd have 6 SSL press this way) and I could sell my WA bus comp...
  7. I have a bunch of nice boards. Poly analogs are OB6, JX10 w. Vecoven, Code8 and a Juno-60. I just can"t help feeling the lure of the Prophet⦠especially with the new OS where it can be layered or split. Friggin" awesome. Due to COVID almost all my booked gigs 2022 have been cancelled so I want to up the ante in my studio. I want a quicker workflow and I have a studio gig where an easy to program analog synth will really make things more fun. The synths I have are no slouches but it"s hard to beat a classic design like the P5 for achieving great results quickly. Then again, since I use a Flock patchbay I could easily integrate an analog mixer in my workflow.
  8. I have the ability to spend the equivalent of about $3000 on gear. I use an Apollo system with a Flock patchbay in my studio and have a couple of really nice analog synths, yet I cannot shake the feeling that a P5 or P10 I EXACTLY what I would like to have keyboard wise, and at the same time I've been looking to get a SSL Six and a summing mixer, possibly a Tegeler. Ive heard mixes done with a SSL X-Desk and really dig that summing sound. The Big Six would cover for both mixer and summing mixer, as well as having a couple of really nice preamps and I could sell my rack mount SSL comp clone. I use two Alpha Channels for most of my tracking, so I know that I dig the SSL preamp sound. I haven't been able to thy the Big Six out though, so I'd be buying it unheard. Anyway, the SSL sounds like the smart way to go, but the Prophet sounds so damn nice. I've tried it, love it. I can't get any perspective on this and any input (perhaps a slap to the face?) would be nice.
  9. It"s similar to the CP60 upright⦠I own the 'home' model, EP-705. Lovely instruments!
  10. Nowadays I"m hauling an XK5, XPK250, stand for the XK5, Leslie, bench and sometimes one more board in my Opel Meriva⦠snug fit!!!
  11. I love that album. I"ve been listening to it since 1993⦠:-)
  12. RIP, there goes my favorite B3 player. Such a deep groove, I'm very happy that he recorded so much lately.
  13. With people like Cory Henry being everywhere and Larry Goldings playing with for instance John Legend, I hear the Hammond everywhere today. Among my musical friends, it"s hipper than ever, so I have to disagree. I love the Tasmin Archer song, in the 90"s we also had big hits like 'Don"t Dream It"s Over' and bands like Counting Crows and others making it big with a very Hammond heavy sound.
  14. I FINALLY have a gig where I can use the Tornado..! I will be playing with a rootsy rock band in two weeks, time to get my chops up again. I"ll be back with a report as soon as I"ve tried the Tornado out with a real live band which hasn"t happened yet.
  15. It wasn"t in 2017. The response I got was that the libraries are tied to the synth, not the user.
  16. I've been using two Kronos since they were brand new, it's still the "best" out there IMHO. I use a Yamaha Montage for a lot of stuff these days, mainly because of the audio tempo sync and possibility to set up sidechaining easily, but the Kronos is more useable in many ways, especially the 16 part multiimbrality and midi channel assignments. Three things that would improve it a lot, two software issues and one hardware issue: 1. The Korg libraries. They are authorized to the particular synth where you installed them, so if your K breaks down you'll need to re-purchase all of your libraries. I learned the hard way when I switched from 73 weighted to 61 and "lost" all my purchased sounds. 2. The global midi channel. It's 2021. It is not necessary to send midi on the global channel at all times. In fact, it's a PITA since it governs the arp and other performance features. 3. A 2nd expression pedal. I use CC11 all the time but also need to be able to assign filter sweeps and such to a pedal. The Yamaha Montage does this easily with the Super Knob. I could also wish they'd update the engines, CX3 was a bit long in the tooth when it came out and doesn't really compare to new clones at all. The Kronos is still king of the hill, though!
  17. I"ve used two L1:s as keyboard monitors, the spacing is the key in a stereo setup. In mono it"s more difficult unless your piano has monaural patches.
  18. Yeah!!! I listened to their version of 'Better Days Ahead' and couldn"t make the setting out. So it"s keyboard bass⦠great stuff!
  19. A "big" deal is the alternate cc numbers for midi control. Most of the other manufacturers use the same cc:s for drawbar control, I wish Yamaha would do the 'same' cc:s. For instance, drawbars are usually CC:s 12-20 for upper manual, Yamaha start on 102. The switches for c/v and perc don"t even send midi cc:s⦠That makes it a pain to reconfigure stuff for use with software organs including VB3 and HX3. Otherwise, using a HX3 module through the audio ins or a Leslie/Vent opens up a lot of possibilities.
  20. I bought a used YC61 a few months back and have been getting a few gigs lately where I need an ultra portable rig, so I figured I should dig deeper into it. I'm using it with my MODX7, and they are quite a good combo. Things I've stumbled upon recently; - The MODX master mode is perfect for calling up YC sounds, program changes sent on the global channel don't affect the actual program played on ch 9 if PC is off. That's the way it should be, but some boards won't always know what to do if a program change for a multi is on the same channel as one of the sounds. - The YC has 4 external midi master zones. I've made a preset using all of them full range of the board, set to ch 9-12. This gives me access to ch 9-12 on the MODX. Yay! I can set the zone ranges in the MODX and filter out program changes and the integration is really good. - I wish the internal zones had the same functionality with key ranges and so on, sometimes I need for instance synth bass from the MODX dubbing a sound in the YC, then I want organ in the middle and last but not least I'd like to trigger samples in the MODX from the YC, but the key zones are splits only so I can't leave empty keys above the high split zone on the YC. - The FX in the YC can be controlled with the YC pedals even though the sound is played from another board. Great if you are using a 'dumb' controller and want wah-wah's on a clam or whatever. - The audio ins on the YC are perfect for submixing sounds. The Leslie fx on the YC61 is probably its' weakest spot, it's a rather organ centered board after all, I hope it will be fixed in an update. The Ventilator kills it and it would have been amazing if Yamaha had supplied a mono out for organ, just like the Numa organ does. It's just one more jack and it makes an organ centered board MUCH more useful.
  21. Way to go! I started playing with an organ trio a year ago, it"s been kind of difficult in these times but so much fun..! We have Hammond, drums and a Sax player so I"m pretty much on my ownâ¦
  22. They are rather common here in Sweden, both uprights and grands. The ones I"ve tried have all been great pianos. A friend of mine bought a really good one from a school for the equivalent of $500 a few years agoâ¦
  23. I wonder when Yamaha will add the YC organ to the Montage.
