timwat
Wow. I haven't kept track of the latest advances, but to my ears that's a huge step forward to getting to actual articulations and real playing. Sure, it isn't 100% to all the little smears and such, but it would be very difficult to identify it as anything other than within the context of a fully rendered, polished track. But what's still missing for me is the prerequisite "ego" setting, at least for the Trumpet 1 setting. Maybe that's already preloaded to "maximum". Quote .. cphollis
The other game in town -- SWAM -- uses a different approach to product similar results. The real question -- which is easier to make sound expressive, natural, etc.? Quote Want to make your band better? Check out "A Guide To Starting (Or Improving!) Delaware Dave
The GSI Gemini module has very good horns as well, however no saxes. I didn't see any saxes with the Acousticsamples above either. Not sure why they are neglected; I use sax samples all the time from my rompler but would love better quality. Reezekeys
I'm doing the SWAM beta for iOS. TBH I don't remember registering, but I guess I did! They sent me the tenor sax and alto flute apps. I am seriously impressed with these, especially since they're running on my old iPad Air 2. They sound very good. Put them in a track with other instruments, and with the right skills (i.e., knowing how the real things work and what you need to do midi CC-wise), they could probably fool most folks. I have no idea what they're gonna charge for these but the Windows & Mac SWAM apps start at around $160 so these could be a serious bargain. This Acousticsamples app sounds excellent too! cphollis
This is an interesting conversation at this point in time for me. I've put together a great stage-type band, with a really hot sax player who sits in. OK, so what do we do when he's not available? Bring on the ersatz sax, trumpet, etc. for some of his signature parts, trading off with guitar. I just need a decent substitute that doesn't completely suck. And I know we won't be fooling anyone because there won't be a sax player visible. Quote Want to make your band better? Check out "A Guide To Starting (Or Improving!) HammondDave
I had never heard keyboard horn sections sound decent... until now. Though $229 seems kind of steep for an IOS instrument. This Acousticsamples app sounds excellent too! It's good to know SWAM tenor sax for IOS is coming. I purchased just about all their IOS horns and strings. Much cheaper than the PC versions for sure. I'm not too fond of their strings, though. Now that I have SWAM horns in my iPad Pro, I don't know if I want/need the V-Horns by Acousticsamples. Their small footprints of hybrid sample modeling is appealing as my SSDs are fast filling up.

Which $229 iOS instrument are you referring to? I searched on "Swam iOS" and see quite a selection of string & brass instruments. Didn't look at every single one but the ones I did check out were all $30. As far as I can see, the Acousticsamples trumpet referenced at the top of this thread, and all their other instruments except for VTines, are Mac/PC only. You should check out the custom sections of Chris Hein Horns, I think you;ll change your mind. Articulations totally customized to taste and unlike most sections, it"s in your face. No fluffy fu fu sounds. Must admit their demos aren"t the best but the guy is German. Probably never heard Maynard or Bill Chase, even though those sounds are sampled well. I do lots of Synths or Hammond w/ Sections lately and it"s too much fun. Quote Magnus C350 + FMR RNP + Realistic Unisphere Mic
