Llarion
Oh, HELL. If youre' gonna make me pick JUST ONE to transcend all genres, I gotta go with Dave Weckl... I could name about 50 more though.. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Pick a genre... ------------------ Cheers! Phil "Llarion: The Jazzinator" Traynor www.mp3.com/llarion Smooth Jazz Cheers! Magpel
Richie Hayward from Little Feat. Pete Thomas from the Attractions. Keith Moon, I really like his musicality, and I like the "pre-Bonham" melodic approach to rock drumming evidenced in such players as Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, etc. A drummer can have more chops than a T-Rex, but if he can't play Ringo, he has no value to me. Pat Azzarello
Bozzio and Morgenstern for power and drive. Bruford for complexity. Wertico for finesse. Keith Moon for excitement (and for allowing someone to tape headphones to his head night after night). Pat http://www.patazzarello.com

Pat Azzarello
Hey Dave... now that you've got our minds working overtime, here are some other ideas for threads (BTW - these came out of qualifying your initial threads): Pick musicians you'd like to play on a session with, record your music with, taking a lesson from, or spend an evening talking with (about music, life... anything but how cool it was to be on the road in a bitchin' rock band ;-) Oh hell, I'll just start a thread with on the "Fantasy Session". Roto
Dave Grohl, he was fun to watch. Tom Petty said he's the best rock & roll drummer he's ever heard, so that's good enough for me. I still can't believe he turned down an invitation to join the Heartbreakers!

Steve LeBlanc
Not Dave Weckl Gag me with a spoon Neil Peart Bwahahaha? Bill Bruford You're kidding right? Dave Weckl simply shreds, listen to the last cut on the first Electric Band album...he's undeniable and he improved so much since then. Neil Peart...was extremely musical...very much a Rock drummer with little finesse but man he was a pioneer though. Bill Bruford is by far one of the most musical and technically cool drummers of all time...his snare sound alone is worth mentioning. Where have you been...I can't believe anyone who's heard more than half of his work could not see him as one of the best. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
Mark Zeger
we missed a good one: Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band immense chops, good taste, a very musical drummer another worth mentioning that I listed in the SSS "sidemen" topic is Clayton Cameron, Tony Bennett's drummer
Felix_dup1
I listen to mostly electronic music, but I have to mention Apollo 440, who have two live drummers (one of them is Paul Kodish) who play simultaneously - and the beats are HUGE! Pat Azzarello
Can't believe I missed Porcaro either. To me "Rosanna" ranks up there with "50 ways" as one of the most recognizable drum intros ever. Pat http://www.patazzarello.com
