Forum name change?

Yo, whassup my fellow forum folk? Public opinion time...

So, the good Dr. Anderton contacted me yesterday. He says that he feels that our forum seems to embody a sort of community spirit that he quite likes (I'm editorializing and paraphrasing here - feel free to jump in, Craig). In that vein, he suggested the possibility of changing the name of the forum from "The Keyboard Corner" to "The Keyboard Community".

My response was, of course, that my position is that this forum belongs to all of us. I therefore suggested that we throw it out there and let the people who post here express how they feel about it.

That'd be you....

So? Whaddaya think? Keep Keyboard Corner? Or go with Keyboard Community?

I have a very definite leaning on the subject, but I'll save my views for later...

I think Corner has kind of a cozy, intimate feel to it, like a handful of friends hanging out in a tavern. Community sounds large, impersonal, and borderline Marxist.

Daniel is right. "Corner" sounds like a room full of friends chilling out...

Even while "Community" sounds more global (and this Forum is REALLY Global) it sounds more impersonal. Even more like "Us keyboardists, YOU the rest... stay there". "Keyboard Corner" could even sound as the name for a bar... so everybody is invited.

I say stick with Keyboard corner. This place has really grown on me, and although I do consider it a community (I feel I know some of the people here already without ever meeting anyone), I kind of like the name.

Funny, I was checking out another keyboards bbs today (what? blasphemy!) and it seemed so...'impersonal'....

However, I would not object (yeah, and who am I to object? LOL) to maybe changing the description at the bottom, and mention something about being a community.

I like Keyboard Corner...

No offense Craig, but Keyboard Community brings to my mind similar negative images as "Keyboard Cubicle" or "Keyboard Kiosk" would - for whatever reason, it sounds like some place where we segregated and isolated all the keyboardists...

I say keep it the way it is. After all, we keyboardists *usually* get stuck in the corner anyway, so it DOES feel like home.

Keyboard Kiosk?...

Then what about the all time favorites like Keyboard Kloset...or perhaps Keyboard Kupboard (don't laugh!!!...it has "board" in both words). Then there is the ever popular Keyboard Komputer Korner (then that makes us the KKK and that definitely won't work!).

I GOT IT!!!!

Keyboard Community Corner Kiosk & Computer Cupboard Cubicle!!!! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

On second thought...never mind! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

My vote is to stay with Keyboard Korner. OOPS! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/redface.gif

I mean Keyboard Corner http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif

Well David, the reason why I didn't post this thread (as you had suggested) was because I felt if you didn't hear it and go "YES!", I wasn't going to pursue it any further.

But here's my thinking. Y'all like Keyboard Corner because over the past several months, we've come to know and love this place, and it has a name, and we associate the name with this cool place, so we hear the name and think positive thoughts, so we like the name. Fine.

Okay, now put yourself in the position of someone who has never been to this forum and hears about it for the first time. This person has no connotation or association to go by. Which name would be more descriptive to this person?

<>

Interesting, because the reason why I thought about this change in the first place is because I felt that calling it the "Keyboard Corner" marginalized the forum, just as "Cubicle" or "Kiosk" would. It's not just some corner of this site (or cubicle), it's one of the hottest forums and in my opinion, has been one of the two most successful in terms of building a true online community (Dr. Walker's is the other one).

In a community, people help each other and live/work together as a group. That's what's happening here - just check out what happened with the compilation. In a corner...well, people get stuck in corners, or painted into corners. It just doesn't seem to do justice to the scope of this forum. I think that if the forum had originally been called "The Keyboard Community" and I suggested it be changed to "The Keyboard Corner," the answers would not be "YES! That's a much better name!!" but would have remained along the lines of "If it ain't broke..."

I mention this just so you know I didn't make this suggestion without a good reason (or at least, what seems to me like a good reason). But ultimately, you could call this forum "Mrs. Paul's Fish Sticks" and it would still be the same group of people doing the same cool posting.

And no, I'm NOT suggesting it be called "Mrs. Paul's Fish Sticks!!"

Oh! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif

You didn't say that!

The way that we had left it, I thought that you were going to post it. When you didn't, I got a little itchy because I was curious what people would think about this, so I posted it. I didn't realize that you had had a change of heart...

My apologies!

Hey, don't worry about it. I decided not to post anything after thinking about it for a bit, and was going to email you letting you know why, but then I saw this thread. I'm not stubborn about this at all, I just personally think that Corner reflects less of what this forum represents than Community. But I also understand that accuracy in wording isn't everything, and if people like the vibe of a particular name, that works for me.

When we were born we all got our names. Maybe some of us did not become what our parents expected us to be when they gave us our names.

I am glad that I can evolve while I keep the name I got.

Keyboard Corner is a nice name. Maybe the name itself does not cover everything of its function, but hey, we are what we are!
