Anifa
Okay, I see this... I used the Euro as a conversion rather than the British Pound. FXConverter - 164 Currency Converter Results Tuesday, January 4, 2005 1. US Dollar = 0.52518 British Pound 1. British Pound (GBP) = 1.90410 US Dollar (USD) Median price = 0.52504 / 0.52518 (bid/ask) Minimum price = 0.52070 / 0.52081 Maximum price = 0.52676 / 0.52690 So, it is NOT PayPal that is taking huge chunks of money... not at all. The difference is in the fact that the American dollar no longer holds the clout it used to be world renowned for. The American dollar is down in many countries; some as low as $1.00 to 7.4 cents.... rather than .52 cents. In the same light, the .52 Pound will be UP against other currencies so it all balances out. The American dollar will not hold any more weight across the Atlantic if collected and paid on US soil that it will in being converted to British Pounds... the value will still drop once the conversion is made. Shars
I'm still sticking to what I said, PP fees are outreagous. You pay to send money hense the fees i mentioned and to take money out of PP into a bank acc, you pay again and in the UK thats 20p for every £ transfered! Its outreagous I think. www.myspace.com/yacababy

Unfortunately, there is not a credit card agency in existence that concerns themselves with the devastated or the little guy. They are ALL in the business to make money, and they accommodate themselves for the services provided. All merchants are charged a fee for providing credit card services to their customers as well as the credit card paying customers are charged interest on all transactions. It is definitely a two sided coin and it's the nature of business; the cc service providers make money in both directions. Please check you PM's after while.... wraub
Hey all. I have yet to check them out more, but these groups are in the business of vetting charities, ensuring that the charities are on the level. Perhaps we should contact them (or at least look into them), see if they can smooth the way for us through the sea of scammers. www.charity-watch.org www.charity-navigator.org I am unable to fully look into them, as I am preparing for a gig. Might be worth a shot... Thanks all! Peace, wraub (cross posting for max visibility.) I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here. nursers
Just been thinking - is anyone interested in taking the FOF payment interface to a more pro level. Essentially what we need is a way of taking donations that allows us to track what is being donated. In my head the perfect scenario would be a direct link to something like the International Red Cross where the donation occurs, then the user is bumped back to our website, and we somehow find out how much is donated. I worry that whilst we rely on PayPal we will never realise the full potential because of people perceiving it might be a scam. Any thoughts?? Shars
I totally agree here Nursers. Its hard work tracking payments coming in, then changing their currency and then transfereing to my account for me to pay it over to the DEC by by card and by the way, the DEC will be scaling down their efforts soon so we have to find another source like the Red Cross to donate to and soon. What do you think? Oh,and just so you know, I have just cleared £369 in my account which I will pay to the DEC in the morning. www.myspace.com/yacababy
nursers
Website updated. Anyone got any ideas about the donation tracking issue? We have got to find an alternative in the next few weeks or lose all hope of knowing how much we actually raise. nursers
Hey Hooper, The hits are much lower this time around - around 8-10 per day so far. I will post an updated referral site list on the weekend. As far as promotion goes - will leave Shars to detail anything happening her end. Last time we asked each participant to email everyone they know, and also to put out a press release (which Shars and others developed) to local media. So Hooper as the songwriter I'd encourage you on that one. The other big promotional opportunity is to approach iTunes Music Store but that requires someone US based to attempt. Hooper
Hmmmmmm.... So, is FOF: A) A flash in the pan. Deader than disco. B) Out to lunch. Be back shortly. C) Takin' a nap.. Or whaaaat? nursers
Hey Hoop. I think the answer is: D) People are back at work and FOF has fallen down a lot of priority lists. Essentially there are a couple of issues. Firstly: promotion - until we can get the songs heard by a wider audience, the FOF project will be self-limiting. Secondly, we now rely on an honesty system for payment - ideally we would have our own payment system. Essentially, FOF is only as good as the energy put into it. I can see that if we get enough songs for a CD that may provide the momentum we need - it would certianly help from a media perspective The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
DanS
I have a tune that I threw together a few months ago, that is pretty much complete except for 2 vital ingredients, lyrics and vocals. It is presently with my old singer in Ottawa, where it has been for over 3 months with no activity. I'm thinking of pulling it from her, and offering it up to FOF if anyone cares to take a stab at the lyrical & vocal end of things. Like I said, it's pretty much complete as far as instrumentation & arrangement goes. Let me know and I'll post it at my ArtistLaunch site. Unless this whole thing is deader than disco, in which case we'll just wait for the next natural disaster. I'll mix/master. What we record in life, echoes in eternity.
