Grammys 2024

I watched her "official video" for Flowers, and I didn't get a smoker vibe.   Like I said, she's got a lower-range voice, but I don't hear smoking in either the video (which I'm assuming is the same as what's played on the radio) or the Grammy performance.   By "50-year old smoker", are you referring to how her voice is a lower-ranged voice?

No I mean the raspy honking sore throat. Honking as in there seems like a pause before she can force a sound out. I am emphasizing to describe like enlarging to show a close up.

I think I heard the thing you're talking about at the beginning of one note - lasted about half a second.   It didn't seem that much of a thing to me.   I wouldn't call that raspy honking, but everyone hear's things differently, it's not a problem!    For example, some folks, God love 'em, hear Sweet Home Alabama in G!  😁

I don't pay attention to the Grammy Awards, so I was surprised when I received a neighborhood bulletin today that said that the best music educator award went to a teacher at our local high school who specializes in special needs students.

You are a leader. Eventually we'll all catch up and hear everything in the key of ehHHH?

Hey kids,,,, who did the piano work on the Joni Mitchell spot?   thx

I think that’s Frank Rizzo.   He’s been relegated strictly to piano work after he got sidelined for kicking the dog around the house prior to anger management treatment.

Not sure what that means, but whatever.   If that's the way you hear her, that's not a problem.

Not sure he wasn't bad at all. I just didn't like some of the chord substitutions.

"Danny, ci manchi a tutti. La E-Street Band non e' la stessa senza di te. Riposa in pace, fratello"

I don't usually watch the whole Grammy show and I didn't this time. But thanks to the discussion of Joni's performance, both pro and con I found it on Youtube. Thank you!

I found it to be transcendent and celebratory. It revealed a new facet of the song, where the plunk plunk of Jacob Collier's steady rhythm allows a large group to sway into it and the declarative poetry of Mitchell's words would hypnotize the heart. If I was to sing the song, I might do it like this rather than as the wistful personal confessional it used to be. It's a strong song and worthy of many interpretations.

Enjoy the song as you would like to remember it of course. This version spoke to me of strength, frailty and the contrasting beauty of both sides.
