  1. A digital file (not stream) is the best possible format, easily surpassing a CD. 24 bit/44 or 48 will do the trick, and for those that care, 24/96 is readily available.
  2. It was shown (in working condition) at Winter NAMM. In a private soundroom, but one that had a big glass wall on the aisle, so everyone could see it was there. I got in to try it... it was very nice.
  3. The point has already been made that different people/roles require different things. No matter what, I would always find the YT link, download the file and work on it within some sort of transcription software (I have settled on Transcribe! after a number of years). No matter whether I can easily hear it or not, I have been making charts as a reminder of the chords AND the form of the tune. Coming into the gig I can easily listen and remember tunes, but then after not playing a tune for a year or two, coming back to it is often at least a temporary blank for me (I'm old enough to have forgotten more tunes than I can currently remember!). So my chart is a quick reminder for me, even if I don't need to keep looking at it on the gig. Just a good jump-start to get my synapses firing again. I think a good leader would prep both a playlist and YT links, but whatever the case, I take care of what I need in my preferred fashion. Jerry
  4. Always love when the Dregs get mentioned. Great band. But this track is from before T's time in the band - it's Mark Parrish on keys.
  5. That's nice to hear. I've been working with Arturia for a couple of years now, on the revisions of the acoustic piano, Rhodes, Wurly, and the new CP70. My friend Jonathan Leonard works on the models with my input, and then a larger team develops presets when we've gotten the model(s) as good as we can. I know we feel we upped the quality a lot from the original versions, but it's nice to hear some affirmation from others. Jerry

  7. Wow - thanks for this! I was at the U of M from Fall 73 - Spring 75 and studied with Vince for one of those years (moving to Ron Miller the 2nd). Never heard Vince play that burning - Joe gave him no choice. Bravo!
  8. I wasn't weighing in on a choice, I was correcting the info about Derek as I know it.
  9. Derek hasn't been using the Korg Triton for a long time now. He keeps changing up, but I know he has a John Bowen Solaris amongst many others. He has sent me videos of his newest project, but told me that some of the gear in the video is staged, so it's hard to know for sure.
  10. He's graphically saying "tread carefully"... I had to look up JazzPiano88's names... seems to be saying she could be a murderer. Sometimes we're too cute (and/or snarky) for our own good online... But I will say I found TommyRude's response funny.
  11. Often these retail people don't really know the internal workings/decisions/details of engineering. It's just "sales speak".
  12. I’ve also been using Gear Exchange and they have a well-thought-out system. As Rabid said, it’s taken a while for some pieces, but I’ve been happy. And if you have them handle the shipping label the cost is very good. Sold 4 things through them so far and everything has gone great. Jerry
  13. I can’t speak to their love of puzzles, but in my long experience I do know that they are not put off by long, multi-step processes to achieve an end result. They don’t suffer from the impatience that so many of us do. I was able to address that in a lot of features we put into KORG gear after I started there. Things in the Triton were my first visible examples of that. Not meaning to make this about me, just sharing some first-hand observations/knowledge.
  14. I had to also download the newest version of the Kontakt Player for it to work.
  15. Easy enough to look for: For use with:Free Kontakt Player version 7.8 and higher or Kontakt version 7.8 and higher
  16. This sounds great, and has a surprisingly broad set of features. I’ve watched some concert clips where he did this with the audience. Am I to believe all of this was sourced at his concerts? Pretty incredible if so.
  17. I’m not sure those companies already have the assets available to use.
  18. I've been in that exact situation with him many times. We did a great session of him playing sound demos when the Korg SV-1 first came out. Sadly, I don't think they're on the Korg website any more. The only thing I could find is this "commercial/demo", but he recorded almost 2 dozen examples for us that day. Edit: I found some of his demos at the end of this long group on their SoundCloud account: https://soundcloud.com/korg/sets/sv1-demos. But much earlier, when we were releasing the OASYS PCI card, he came into the small soundroom, and starting doing what he did on that Keyscape video. So we could just ask him, "can you play XXX?" and he did. He's an incredible musician. Jerry
  19. I love Dave G - always nice to hear an arranger who is a strong player. Tunes aren't just an excuse to blow, they put real thought into crafting an arrangement/setting for their playing. Bob James is the same, although he is usually doing that in a small group/trio setting these days. Here's a few examples from him:
  20. Not to digress, but some of the score readers have functions for this... UnRealbook has "hot spots" that you can touch and they go to a pre-determined page/spot. Good for those repeats, D.C/D.S. al Coda things.
  21. You make a compelling case - thanks for all you're contributing. While I certainly know his work, you are uncovering things I didn't know. I can't wait to see that documentary.
  22. Damn, he's great. Clean articulation in both hands. Never heard of him before - thanks for this!
