It was a good game. Now can we trash talk the half time show?

Got a laugh when she opened with Bitch Better Have My Money, possibly referring to the Super Bowl's notoriously frugal ways when paying for halftime entertainment. "Pay me what you owe me!"

Great game!

For fans who think the holding call should not have been made…  It was HOLDING. If you don’t call it then, when do you call it?  Refs should not change the way they make calls just because its the end of the game. Don’t blame the refs, blame the player who committed the foul. He was honest and admitted he committed the penalty.

And what happed to the Eagles vaunted defense? Andy Reid made them look confused. Two identical touchdown passes to wide open receivers. Zero sacks. The Chiefs scored on every possession in the second half.

Jaylen Hurts played good enough to win most any game... Except against a team and a championship QB from Kansas City.  Hurts is young and will probably have many more chances. But remember Dan Marino?  He lost his first (and only) Super Bowl. He thought he would be back many times. He never returned. I hope that Hurts does.

Regarding the halftime show (my profession), I was surprised at the pretty vulgar choreography from Rhianna. Nothing like being tastelessly explicit. I am far from being a prude, but that ruined a pretty good performance and a great production design. People can watch porn if they want to sew that. But a lot of kids watch the Super Bowl… The NFL needs to re-evaluate how they select halftime acts… Maybe they should hire “Up With People” again…

let's add 4 more refs, so we can call the myriad of microsecond holds that happen on every play. Many times the foul is blatant and not called. It's been inconsistent for years, is a major gamechanger and seems like an important thing that modern technology with an expedited review could clear up, if PI/holding were reviewable. .

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAA... I saw the crotch grabbing but I missed the finger smelling.  Thanks for bringing this to my attention.  Earlier I thought the performance was canned and around 3-stars.  Now, I jack it up to 5-stars.. you go Rhianna!

I wasn't offended. Guy singers have been grabbing their crotches onstage since James Brown and Mick Jagger - not to mention Michael Jackson. For Rihanna I thought it was a pretty restrained performance. She's had so many hits she could have done anything, but she withheld potentially controversial tracks like S&M or Love On The Brain.

The lady is worth a cool 1.7b dollars - by far the richest female performer in the world. I'm amazed she did the halftime show at all.

No coaching staff is better than the Chiefs' at adjusting at halftime to opponent tactics.

Andy Reid/Eric Bienemy figured out what the defense was doing, made the adjustments, and came up with 2nd half plays that surprised the defense again and again.

I was surprised the Eagles called 3 pass plays in a row, when they were so dominant on the ground against the Chiefs D.  That led to a quick 3 and out.

I accept the Super Bowl halftime show as entertainment. Since I know it isn't making a strong statement musically, I use it as an opportunity to replenish my food and drinks.😁😎

Congrats to antimatter ( @antimatter ) for winning the Pick ‘em Pool this year. It took a correct pick on yesterday’s Super Bowl for him to beat Wait whut by one point. I’m not sure who Wait whut is (perhaps @RABid ), but well done to both of you!

Best,

Wait whut is my friend Bob. He is not a member of the forum - just a fantasy football fan filling a slot we had open.

Props to the Chiefs and glad it was a close game. Unfortunately, what I feared would happened did, the media is wetting themselves as they gush about Mahomes like he carried the team on his back and after a few short years is already one of the best ever, both which are a joke. He had a good game but nothing amazing; it was a total team effort. The run game was effective when it needed to be and the defense really came on in the second half. The longest kick return in SB history to give them a short field and a WR so wide open for the TD that Stephen Hawking could've made the throw didn't hurt either. It also didn't hurt that Hurts (sorry) gave them a free TD and can't throw a long ball to save his life, but I was quite surprised that for the most part, the Eagles' great WRs in Smith and Brown were held in check. Again a total team effort by the Chiefs.

OK. Is it draft day yet?

The NFL would be gushing over whichever QB won the Super Bowl. The winning head coach is getting a lot of press too. The talking heads need stories.

We live in a world where losers get participation trophies. As a result, some folks are quick to anoint anyone who wins as a potential GOAT. It doesn't take a great body of work.

I chalk it up to the blessing and curse of living in a 24/7/365 media cycle. If we don't shut it off, we can be subjected to an infinite loop until the next thing comes along.

The NFL draft will be here in 2 months. Before that, the news will consist of  players and coaches changing teams.

Thankfully, the Commanders will be moving on from QB Carson Wentz. I just hope we hire a better offensive coordinator. 😎

The last time I can remember the media completely downplaying anything the winning QB did after a Super Bowl was the Ravens-Niners "Harbowl".    As far as the media was concerned, Joe Flacco was the luckiest QB alive.   He was merely the beneficiary of a great defense, great RB, great WRs... he was just a piece of chopped liver who had to flick the ball once in a while to earn his ring.

Wisdom there. Scary stuff on a variety of levels

That's because it was mostly true. :) But he got hot at the right time. Plus the media darling then was Ray Lewis. So what if he was an accomplice to murder? Just win baby.

PS I could be wrong but I don't recall them gushing all that much about Stafford last year, and he's been one of the best QBs in the NFL (mostly playing for pathetic Lion teams) for way, way longer than Mahomes. But try suggesting those two be mentioned as comparable overall and people will laugh you out of the room.

I think you know why every Superbowl winning QB has been hyped ever since.   You've been arguing on this point all year - no Superbowl for you if your team doesn't have a star QB.

Guess what?  Stars get coverage.  Doesn't matter if all he did was relax with a newspaper in his hand all day because his OL was so good, then finally toss the ball to a receiver out of boredom.  Goes with the territory!

Sure and I'm fine with coverage....in proportion to their accomplishments. Not the excessive silliness going on now to the point of deification. I half expect the media to start suggesting we sacrifice chickens in his name soon.

And in an almost completely unrelated side note, I can't believe this team lost to the Colts.  :)

No excess from the media?  Man, you're wishing for Niagara to fall upwards.

Get ready for more "You don't need to get THAT personal" commercials featuring Mahomes and Reid.  Maybe Kelce will also get on camera now

Oh and you reminded me of the Niners 40-8 loss to the Eagles.  They also lost to the Chiefs that year.    Then they went on to beat Aikman and the 'Bums in the NFCC and destroy the Chargers in the Superbowl.

Streichen signs on to be HC for the Colts. As good of a candidate as any I guess of who's left.

At 37 years old, I don't believe he was the best candidate among those still standing.😎

Facts:  He committed a penalty... he knew it... he admitted to it.. his team was penalized for it. It caused the receiver a delay in running the route and the possible TD  pass was overthrown because of it.  The fact is that like Brady, you give Mahomes the ball with 5 minutes left and the score tied, you are almost certainly going to lose.  Couple that with the fact that the Philadelphia defense was fooled TWICE on the same wide open pass play, showed that they were totally out-coached by Reid.  Reid made adjustments during the halftime... your rookie coach did not.

Sorry Philly fans... don't blame coaching incompetence on the refs... they lost fair and square.

ok, hammonddave. Yep, it was a penalty. (that is often not called)

the chiefs are one of my fave teams to watch, Mahomes and Reid are admirable and creative compared to most of the league. But, they even seemed a little let down, standing around in victory formation for 1.5 minutes. . That ref was a stickler, and possibly even a jabroni/gibroni. (sp)

I do agree that the last 1.5 minutes was pretty boring. But you can't change the rules just because you want an exciting ending. I thought during that time that it was a shame that the game was almost certainly going to end with a chip shot field goal. Both teams deserved better... but that was how the game was played out. I have watched NFL football for 60+ years, and this sometimes happens.  However, I would not have changed the action and strategy of the whole game just for an exciting last 1.5 minutes.  Some of those passes that Hurts threw were amazing. Talk about threading the needle. Mahomes breaking free on that 26 yard run... And the way Reid and his staff neutralized the Philly defense in the 2nd half was pretty impressive. What a change from the first half when Philly was almost unstoppable. This is what happens when one coaching staff has experience and the other does not. Let's hope that the Philly coaches learn that you can't always rely on talent to win games, there has to be continual adjustments to the other side... just like military strategy.

So no one deserved to lose this one. They were just outplayed and outcoached. Next time may be different.
