Geoff Grace
Rod Temperton was an accomplished keyboard player and great songwriter. One of the legends of funk has passed. I was a fan of his work with Heatwave even before he wound up penning some of Michael Jackson's greatest hits. All of us who came onboard afterward owe Rod a debt of gratitude. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I will miss him nonetheless. LX88
Great songwriter. I noticed the Heat Wave Stuff right away and it didn't surprise me that he went on to bigger things. The history of Heat Wave was pretty interesting. They did a feature on the "Unsung" program that might still be on Youtube. Anyway I have been a fan, and this is just another wake up call. The message is - time is precious..... 66 is just too young.

stoken6
Yah Mo B There came on the radio today as I was leaving a client meeting. Didn't realise that was his! The slick harmonic sophistication of his work ("Rock With You" being a highlight) stands out, then as now, against a constant flow of major-triad guitar songs drowning the airwaves. Who will be "the next Rod Temperton"? Cheers, Mike.

ProfD
D8mn. The genius of Quincy Jones is surrounding himself with great talent. For almost 40 years, Rod has been one of Q's his right hand men. His fingerprints are all over Michael Jackson's records and many others. I certainly appreciate the body of work he left behind as a composer, songwriter and musician. RIP Mr. Temperton. Mark Schmieder
That's a much longer list than I expected... some of those songs send chills down my spine (e.g. "Rock with You") due to their progressions, and have done so since I first heard them. Rod Temperton was one of the first songwriters I took note of when scanning album credits, and one who might get me to buy an album by an artist I might otherwise ignore or not be aware of. 2016 has been a rough year all around. LX88
I have been listening to " Baby Be Mine" from the Thriller album, and have wondered why it didn't get the airplay of " Beat It " or " Billie Jean". So of course I looked at the above list and sure enough, it was written by Rod Temperton. So yes, he must have seen a lot of checks in the mail. But all the money in the world can't buy a cure to aggressive cancer. A shame.
MojoGuyPan
That is just what I am saying. Temperton is way more important in the grand scheme of things than the Jay Kay Thriller YouTube cover guy.
