Thanks guys.

The kicker of the whole thing is I bought an RV and am dragging the wife, 2 kids, and dog around the country with me!

We've got about a year or two before the oldest is in school, so it was sort of a now-or-never opportunity. Maybe it'll work out, maybe it won't. We'll just have to wait and see. :D

I'm really excited! :thu:

I did the same thing in the early '80's. Gina, my daughter, was just 2 and I got a gig doing the playboy club thing. I'd play the one at Century City for 6 weeks, then go to one in St. Pete, and then to the Casino in AC, then back to LA. I did that for a couple years and drove to each place in a VW bus with my wife and Gina. So for gina it was Disneyland, Disney World and the beach.

Congrats and best of luck to you!! It was that cash you pocketed from selling me your KP200s that put you over the top, wasn't it?

P.S. Let me know if you're ever rolling through D.C. Would love to catch the DaBowsa Family Tour!

Yep, handed in my 2 weeks notice.

Sept 14th is my last day.

Sept 27th is my first day...of my new job...as full-time professional rock n' roll touring keyboardist/guitarist.

Woot!

Cool! Need more details! Who are you touring with? How much keyboards vs. guitar are you going to be playing? Schedule?

Out with it brother!

Two bands, two sets. Headlining with Badfish, A Tribute to Sublime playing mostly keys, trumpet, and some guitar. Opening for ourselves with our original project Scotty Don't, playing mostly guitar.

Here's a little clip of me pulling some double duty, Electro73, Micron, and SG.

It is experiences like this that will keep you from having a midlife crisis later.

You don't consider quiting your perfectly reasonable stable software job when you have a wife and two kids to go on the road in search of rock 'n' roll stardom midlife crisis behavior? :D

I went freelance several years ago....

IMO, there is such thing as a "stable" job, just jobs that are being evaluated for elimination (or "right-shored".)

At least when you freelance, you are constantly marketing and looking for your next engagement.

Actually gives me a better sense of security.

Don't worry--you will be fine.

Enjoy!

Well, if it is a crisis it is not directed at damaging your family, as is the old cliched "buy a Ferrari, get a young girlfriend with big ta tas".

Congrats DaBowse!

I went on the road full time as a solo act back in the eighties, for about 3 years. My day job had dried up, and I always wanted to do it, so I contacted an agent and off I went. As a musician, its something that you just have to do.

Good luck man, enjoy the ride.

Fired my boss six months ago. A little less money and a lot less aggravation. Not such a brave move for me, since I don't have the family responsibility.

Of course it's a bad idea, but if you can make it float and you enjoy it, how bad can it be?

I'm sure you had no problem convincing the dog or the kids, but selling this to the wife is impressive.

I went freelance just over a year ago, after years of working in the press. My income is now divided in around equal thirds between music, web design and freelance journalism. I only wish I'd had the guts to do it years ago. I've never worked so hard (need to be dragged out of the home office sometimes by a despairing wife) but feel magnitudes happier. And no one day is the same as the next. Good luck with your venture!

I might mention that I quit my last job in 2002 to work for myself as a web developer, and while it's not as lucrative as I would like, I wouldn't trade it for anything. No boss breathing down my neck, I'm in complete control, and if it's a slow day, I don't have to stay in the office just because of the hours (though I don't take the opportunity to practice as much as I should). The brief moments I think about getting a "real job" quickly turn to "why would I want to do that???"

So again, congratulations, good luck, and have fun!

That is so cool.... We need details dude, real details of on the road. Like a sticky and you post from each destination.

I did it once for a year, I didn't want to go back to my old job but I only had a 1 year sabbatical. I just never had the cajones to up and quit and make it my life.

I'm green with envy!

It's only Rock 'n Roll but I like it!
