  1. Hats-off. Yeah, I was a little disappointed about the death of Wayne Kramer from the MC5. They were a great (but rather overly political band), and Wayne Kramer did indeed kick out the jams with that beautiful Strat of his. And Fred Smith, later to marry Patti Smith and play on some of her greatest albums, was a great lead player. He used to play a Rickenbacker on those vintage MC5 albums. Also of note: Blue Oyster Cult covered Kick Out The Jams for their live 1978 album Some Enchanted Evening, but Eric Bloom's banshee yells don't come close to matching the gravel pipes of Rob Tyner.
  2. The music industry turned to poo after Elvis died in 1977. There, I said it!
  3. The Beatles performing I Wanna Hold Your Hand on Ed Sullivan will count as one of the most significant TV programs of all time. It also helped boost CBS ratings for the rest of the sixties.
  4. Was John Petrucci on the list of Rolling Stone 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time? If not he definitely shoulda been on there.
  5. Not to get off topic, but didn't Jerry Aiello and Paul Harris also play keyboards on some of Stills' albums, especially on the Manassas albums? I seem to remember they did...
  6. I thought Mutt was a pretty good producer. He could be a little on the self indulgent side when it came to producing Def Leppard, but he was great when he produced and was married to Shania! I wore the shit out of her Greatest Hits CD when I was a kid.
  7. Hats-off. As Good As I Once Was is one of my favorite Toby Keith songs, I listened to this one pretty much throughout my early life. RIP Toby Keith
  8. Omartian is a legend in the history of music. His production on the albums he did with Christopher Cross is an excellent example on how to produce records properly.
  9. Stephen Stills has always been known for his guitar playing than his keyboard playing and singing, but he is a pretty good keyboard player. I’m pretty sure that he used a Yamaha CP30 electronic keyboard on some of the Daylight Again album.
  10. I have mixed feelings myself about the Grammys. When former Grammy president Neil Portnow announced a few years ago that female artists need to “step up” if they want to be nominated for a Grammy, that’s when I started losing interest in watching the Grammys.
  11. I was glad to see Tracy Chapman perform. It's probably been at least 100 years since anybody saw her perform!!
  12. Licensing disputes have always been part of the industry. I used to have a VHS of Wayne's World which had a soundtrack that differed from the actual theatrical version due to inevitable licensing disputes. Sucks, but that's part of the film and TV industry, not just the music industry.
  13. You listen to the song Turn The Lights Back On, and you notice that Billy Joel's voice has never changed. But don't count on him making any new music: Joel said that he retired from making albums after 1993's River Of Dreams, though obviously he will continue to make hit singles and EPs, just not full length albums. Hell, after seeing this post, I think I should give The Stranger a little spin or two! Thanks for posting this @elsongs
  14. Kelly Clarkson recently had Kelsey Grammer on her talk show recently and they performed the Frazier theme song together. I am a fan of Frazier myself, so why not post it?
  15. Hello? There was a woman named Suzanne Ciani, who made a few electronic recordings in the 70s and who also worked with legendary synthesis Don Buchla on the Buchla synthesizer. Betcha didn’t know that?
  16. Lay Down Candles In The Rain was Melanie's other hit. She was inspired to write it after performing at Woodstock in 1969 (some of her songs were also featured on the soundtrack of that film.)
  17. I really like John Beaudin, the Canadian music journalist and reviewer, and his channel Rock History Music. He has interviewed a lot of good musicians on his channel. https://www.youtube.com/@RockHistoryMusic/videos
