  1. There aren't many transcriptions of her work are there?
  2. I'm going to echo this one. The MKIII, NKS2 does a pretty nice job of addressing the immediacy issues of VSTs. No programming necessary for common parameters to be mapped to labeled knobs. Custom graphics per synth. Immersive. Cons - no set lists or combos AFAIK.
  3. Wanted to say that I've bought a roll. That's expensive tape! Now I gotta wait a year to see if it's better than my last solution More feedback in 2025...
  4. Soo... I got tired of waiting at Sweetwater and got a ?gray market UB-Xa at Alto. Large number of annoyingly clicky keys (loud, hard bottoming) with admittedly enthusiastic playing, but who doesn't want to be able to play the keys? Lots of clicky sounds - the "pop" issue I think it's called. Poor volume levelling. My ownership lasted 24 hours. I hope others have had a better experience with the keybed? Hope springs eternal. Maybe I'll get a NI S61 MKIII with a pro 800
  5. There are a lot of fraudsters on Facebook. Does the profile check out? Not made last year? Lotsa friends, reasonable bio? I would meet the seller in person and look at the instrument. This one sounds like it might check out, though. I've waded through a bunch on facebook and reported as fraud a whole bunch with profiles made in the last 12 months. At least this person spoke to you and presumably sounded like the gender they claimed to be... There are some pretty good deals on facebook. I picked up a set of speakers for just a couple bucks from someone who was genuinely downsizing...
  6. Sigh. If nobody's going to speak up for this one, I guess I will. Full disclosure: I paid full price, so I'm obligated to like it... 😊 For me what matters is not the details but the overall tone, and to me on most days, it's my preferred. Largely I bought it because I was tired of Garritan and wanted a Steinway-esque sound. My only Steinway reference is a B that I've had the privilege of playing at an in-law's house. Other VSTs - more than enough... To me at least the tone of the German D is consistent. The bottom end rumbles. The top tinkles. On the B mic, it feels close but not too close (ie Grandeur). It's not too sharp (Production voices) or dull (Noire) or weird (VSL which I still can't get to sound right), and I prefer it over ACD. I find it adequate for practicing on without jarring distraction or fussing about the tone. So, now when I boot the system, this is it. YMMV.
  7. Ivory products are now on sale https://synthogy.com/ Looking at ACD...
  8. The simplest would be headphones that won't play a damaging volume. We've got multi thousand dollar headphones on the market but the only ones that limit volume are for my kids at $20. I guess earpods will also give that information if you look hard enough...
  9. IMO concerts are far too loud these days. When we go as a family we bring earplugs or over the ears for all. Both my daughter and I experimented by taking them off for a few seconds, and promptly put them back on again to avoid pain... I've also asked an audio guy when the highest decibel level was that he had ever mixed at, and he told me he couldn't tell me because it was a felony. I've known young people here in the US with hearing loss from concerts... I am also somewhat distressed that there is no professional level audio gear with decibel limits (ie headphones). The only ones with this privilege are my kids...
  10. Soo.. Chiming in from the largely organ naive camp, I think this is a thread that I didn't know I needed. Thanks to all...
  11. Midi 2.0. Would this allow a knob to be labeled with the parameter label of choice? If so it would be about time...
  12. Latest purchase - Playing Solo Jazz Piano by Jeremy Siskind. Read it cover to cover on an airplane. Short, sweet, practical. Gotta lotta practicing to do. Thumbs up!
  13. Two thumbs up on the WD 40! I was getting tired of the elbow grease method...
  14. So, tried the soap and water. WD40 looks like it's next up, since it's on the shelf. Goo gone looks next... Thanks!
  15. Sooo... Just thought I'd ask. If anyone has a couple of plastic parts to spare that hold a MP 9000 key to the metal frame I'm all ears! Also if anyone has a good solution to get velcro glue off a keyboard, that would be good too... Thanks!
  16. I learned my chord and melody line playing and all my inversions on a pressure non-sensitive Casio with one good sound. The fact that it was free really helped. Some of us need a *very* low bar for entry... 🙂 What does make me feel bad is seeing a professional level pianist with a spinet.
  17. So for me at least, the VPC 1 action was a bit on the heavy side. I tend to spend more of my time in semi improvisational things than actually reading sheet music, and I just didn't find the VPC 1 inviting. The RD action is much lighter, not to mention having a sound set. Also, in line with my improvisational behavior, the need to constantly fire up a VST host is a bit of a pain. I have, over the years, basically reinvented a rompler in Cantabile, but it's always needing some maintenance (understatement!). There's also the long standing Roland fetish that was triggered by an XP 80 many moons ago, that started my descent into the keyboard world. Uli saw the prices and started a music company. I saw the prices and got a previously broken Casio. I know some people want to build finger strength on a VPC 1. The only other instrument I play is a grand at church that is much lighter than the VPC 1, so I don't have that need. Been a pretty smooth, and good transition so far, except that I haven't yet gotten a hacked together music stand in front of the second tier. My 10 year old can't read the music if it's too far away. One thing I've noted is that very few of these massive studio pictures include a music stand
  18. Sigh. I've hung up my VPC-1 (highbrow) for an RD-2000 (lowbrow). I hereby demote myself from pianist to keyboardist... The RD 2000 was used from GC but cleaned up pretty well. At some point I'll probably refine my slightly bumpy paint job. My overall impression of Rolands and Yamahas as invulnerable to all harm stands. Relatively speaking of course...
  19. Re: Ilok. If you have a license that's based on your computer and change just about anything with your computer, ie a secondary hard drive that the license is not supposed to be on, all of your ilok licenses will be gone (until you contact customer service). As a person who tends to upgrade SSDs and ram, etc, I use the dongle exclusively now
  20. I was a violin player, then a guitarist. Was always drawn to the flashy lights of synthesizers and wanted to play piano at church. I learned music theory in college, and learned to ad lib on piano, but figuring out the bass clef in a controlled fashion always eluded me. Then my daughter started taking lessons. I know we don't talk about the Alfred series here much, but for me that was the entry. I think the first book took me a couple hours, but was step by step enough for me to actually learn something. I'd recommend a teacher if you're stuck. Or the Alfred series if you haven't tried it. I found the Suzuki series, which I was familiar with from violin, to be too difficult to start with. Some other series were also nonstarters. If time is short there are remote teachers (I'm taking remote jazz lessons now 'cause jazzbos in my area don't wake up before noon, and I have a morning off each week). Now I'm our church's substitute pianist, and can also be found on keys imitating violins or other instruments. And I'm still blowing my familiy's money on things with flashy lights.
