  1. I"ve been passing up solo gigs for years, always preferred the dancing and challenges of horns strings while covering other parts. But this beautiful of great gigs I moved here for in January vanished like a fart in the wind. Some bookings are on hold but I decided the Duo approach would be better in light of recent events. New gear like WState, HX 3.5 and TC Helicon VoiceRack w/ the Mic + switching for extra automations. Can always get in another band or show next year. Good luck my brothas from other mothas. If there are bands in your area hope you score. One door opens when another one closes.
  2. Go for it. I"ve auditioned for 2 gigs and got both from people driving over to my house, then I open the door and play the 3 songs I asked for to perform. Never had time off before, just breaks in between shows, but even then had upgrades, rebuilds, etc. Modded a WaveState and re programmed it"s Set Lists, upgraded to PTeq 6, Kontakt 6, W10, Omnisphere, etc. Re programmed my SE-02 and Physis K4, and have learned 52 songs. I"m ready to jam with a Mask and latex gloves, also practiced with those on two, no sweat. I"m waiting for HX 3.5, then the extended license. I"m ready to go when we get the Green Light in Vegas. I"ll volunteer for Mayor Goodman"s control group......LoL. Great idea though having a jam, neighbors loved my auditions, a live band would really raise spirits.
  3. Korg WaveState Desktop and TC Helicon VoiceRack.
  4. Pre production and gigs cancelled, as they were conventions, and one nighters on Freemont Street. Great gig too. No biggie though, I"ve held 2 auditions and got both gigs. I corresponded via email for the management/agent/contractor, the other was word of mouth. I told them screw the links, sends me 3 tunes then come by, sit in your car as I open the garage and play the tunes. First time for everything I suppose. Learning 50 new arrangements but no pre production until May when the theaters/rehearsal halls open up again.
  5. HX-3.5 has WiFi too. I"ll report how well it works even though I won"t count on it for live work. My rack is hard wired to a Snake. Not a fan of fixing things that already work...
  6. Just ordered new HX-3.5. Great support. I get to keep my Plexi until the new unit arrives. 2nd German developer I know to give such great service. Creamware/SonicCore also does this but their DSP Rack is 3500 USD. I still gang MIDI CC#"s onto an expression pedal. Playing Horns + B3 parts allows me no 1 handed performances.
  7. Good advice, I"m waiting delivery still. Sure hope I don"t have to buy a bulky expensive triple super duper looper thingamajig. Cheerz
  8. Bought one of these but don"t need a triple pedal switch, seems better suited for guitar. I"m automated it via MIDI but vocalist only need to activate the effect. In short, the unison patch will be default with a splash of delay or verb. But the harmonys/preset, can be selected by me per scene. Vocalists can then kick on the harmony when needed. I can hit bypass from my controller, but the triple pedal is just a little too much and morons on eBay reverb are the usual bottom feeders thinking they have a 'rare' product. I"ve got many footswtiches, and even a Boss FS-6 Dual. Dont know squat bout impedance, voltages, etc. Would any of my switches work? Thanks JV
  9. I"m buying flights and rent a cars for 2 years of travel. Usually costs 5-6,000. Hell we rented new cars for the last month @ 4 bucks a day M-Thurs, 11 on weekends. We wanted a new car but the idea a 10 minute test drive is enough to make a decision never sat well with me. We"ve driven a Hyundai, 2 x Nissans and the new a Jeep. Love those 6 cylinder 32mpg Hyundai Sonata Sedans. So quiet when the doors shut, great stock stereo, the extras are plentiful too. We"ll see. But buy your DisneyWorld vacations, and other flights w/ rent a cars now. Prices cannot change. They really need the money...
  10. Nice. Watched him when I was 10 years old. We watched through the windows at St.Judes Teen Night. The Guild and another group from Ferguson, MO. (St.Louis)
  11. Wrong shape for any old drum box. Probably something new maybe Alesis?
  12. I"m a pretty foul bastard. I bathe every other day, only wash my hands when I"ve taken a dump, I eat food I drop on the floor. My point is germaphobes are very clean all the time never come into contact with germs, so they never made their immune system strong. I swam in the Missouri River where you know they dumped raw sewage, I mean when you see dead fish and snakes that"s a sign your in the right place to tackle germs, beat them with those white corpuscles. For the sake of peer pressure I follow the CDC"s advice but I guarantee you if Corona hit my body, it wouldn"t make it out alive. I probably had Ebola and didn"t even know it. Have to say though, I"m getting tons of work done, and I go out everyday, yesterday 50% Oil Change, today 4 new top shelf Pirelli 18"s for 650, 25% off. And NYC will get through this, albeit folks will die. But 9/11, 2008 Crash, now the Covid-19. They got this.
  13. I had a date last night to the downstairs with candles. Better than s-ending 200 at a restaurant. FWIW Steve Wynn is paying everybody who works at his places. Might stop when Mnuchens cash shows up, but what a gent he is.
  14. Unison playing is great. Hanon excercises. Czerny. Charlie Parker licks in unison, like DOMi does so well. Or just learn Take A Pebble by Kieth Emerson in all keys. That"s what got my left working as a kid. Easiest is to do B3 Horn songs by ToP. Left hand brass.
  15. Have some fun and stand, unless you"re into ballads and love songs. That bores me to tears and usually means the vocalist bathes in reverb....
  16. Disposable Controllers & Hardware is popular with Kids. My youngest son loves the blinking LEDs too.
  17. Demo did suck. I make great String Ensembles in minutes with Omnisphere or Zebra. Omnisphere has the Solina Chorus effect which makes it even easier. I used an TC Electronics Chorus and MXR Phase 90 on the OBX for my ARP String Ensemble replacement. Sounded much better than Solina or ARP.
  18. A stunning replica of a complex vintage instrument.../
  19. Orange Tree Slide, Steel, Nylon and 8 String Banshee Electric. Made by a guitarist so artics and neck position tones are excellent.
  20. I also use Furman PL-8+"s for home. Stage gets SurgeX. It"s only 20 years old though. Ankyu
  21. Using software on pitch modulation always has more control to get exactly what you want. I prefer AFT and set my lag and curve modifiers on my Physis K4 or in Kontakt, Omnisphere or Zebra. For Jan Hammer whole step, 5th or octave bends I use a Pitch Wheel. But for that deep detune/vibrato/pitch mod prevalent in 80"s synths like Prince made good use of software is the best. Good example in Omnisphere is to assign AFT to Pitch, modulated by LFO or EG. I can get a great trumpet shake style modulation while bending with the wheel. For even deeper vibrato/pitch mod, assign the same controller to an AUX channel that has a Chorus, Tremolo or vibrato effect. AFT will modulate Pitch, and the AUX Channel opens up the audio to 100% effect simultaneously. To me this style of effect emulates a Horn section Shake really well. Lag provides an increase in the rate if set up that way so you have light/slower to maximum/faster. I always refer to the section Shake by Blood Sweat & Tears tune Spinning Wheel. Of course just solo synth adding vibrato like a violin is enjoyable too. It"s all about motion.
  22. I"ve been buying HE gear for years. Mostly port multipliers like this recent upgrade from PBox 1. Not a fan of Pass through ports on Subs or other powered cabinets, so 1/4' goes to stage monitors, XLR to house.
  23. I"m tempted since I moved back to Las Vegas and already I"m going to CA. to rehearse. Never had to audition / rehearse in Cali to gig in Vegas. It"s a new twist with the proper attitude. Burbank will be a step up from my provided motel room in Compton. Helicopters keep me up all night. Plus I did an ELP/Yes Tribute years ago. Went over like a Reggae Band at a Klan Rally. Love watching folks copping not only the chops but sounds. Then we have nothing but synths? Don"t need booth babes for synths, that"s for rockers and guitar cults.
  24. I"ve noticed this ever since I used a CP80 in the '80"s. In Gigastudio I layered GigaPiano with the VintAudio Upright. These days Keyscape and PianoTeq. Can"t speak for ROMplers other than the Casio PX. Which I layered with a detuned PianoTeq. Something about the perfectly tuned digital samples doesn"t cut through. My Rhodes, EPianos, Horns, Strings, anything sampled gets layered. Otherwise it"s lifeless except when soloing, but even then when layered I get a bigger sound using less db.
