  1. I think its a fine idea depending on who does the reviews. Whether we move it to GearLab doesn't bother me. Your always going to have people trying to use public forums to post marketing stuff it happens all the time. Harmony Central is continuously battling that.
  2. The Rolo Seabord transmits midi over bluetooth and has USB. Any board you wanted to control would either accept USB or Bluetooth midi without a host (Kronos?). Or you would need a device that would need a device such as the Kenton MIDI Host MkII
  3. Actually it does appear the vocal is heavily processed you can hear the auto tune. I would guess she is singing to a doubled vocal track. I believe its quite obvious she has a bunch of pre-recorded tracks in the mix. Its definitely NOT just looping. How much is live and how much is pre-produced? It's hard to tell. If you want to do just looping the Roland Loop Station in the Kawehi video would be a much better. The MPC has looping but its more of an after thought to tick off a box. Not the best tool for that. This video explains all the things the MPC One is capable of. [video:youtube] I'm interested in the sampling, sequencing, clips and automation and how I can use them in a trio without going into full on produced tracks. When I ordered it my sweetwater rep called me with a bunch of questions since I had never ordered anything like it previously and went into exactly how I wanted to use it. And I told him it was a complete experiment and something my drummer and I have discussed at length. So when I get it early March it should be interesting. Again it might not work for me and end up on craigslist.
  4. I think if I couldn't do music any more I might become a bit of a prick.
  5. Yes, one of reasons I just ordered the MPC One is I have drummer that regularly does about 3-4 rap songs a night. I found that a couple of times that we had another drummer sit in during those songs our drummer is very good at working the audience with a wireless mic. So in addition to using it as an experiment to see what I can do with it. I want to setup those songs and be able to fire up the beats and fire off individual clips while playing my keys. That way he can get the audience pumped up . We play a lot of different genre, yet we are instrumentally a trio. The more I can add while also keeping the audience entertained, I'm up for it. It looks from research this thing has a big learning curve. I don't want to do full on tracks but loops and samples. I also have several modules I would like to sample and use without having to haul it and set it up. For instance my D-05 and Radius. For a few songs I think this could really be a great addition, I don't mind being the tech guy.
  6. I have an older mac book that has 4GB of memory. On it things like Omnisphere 2 works but is slow to initially load. I use light weight plugins like pianoteq, addictive keys and various other plugins. As long as I'm not doing anything that requires a lot of resources simultaneously it isn't a problem. When it gets hairy is when you have say Omnisphere , a large sampled piano and effects all loaded simultaneously. Which is not generally the way I use it. I tend to have simple splits and layers and will tend to use less resource intensive programs. Like the mainstage synth alchemy, pianoteq and lounge lizard or addictive keys.
  7. She is Borg you will be assimilated, resistance is futile. I liked the weird looks she got from some people!
  8. I totally agree! What impressed my was how she seamlessly played all the parts. You could tell she put a lot of work into that. On a side note I just pre-ordered an MPC One. It's totally as an experiment to see just exactly what can be done with it. It may not work for me, but at my age what's life if you just do the same thing over and over?
  9. I have been contemplating getting an MPC One for the same kind of setup. I wonder if this old dog can still learn a few new tricks? It's really heartening to see talented young people using all this technology to perform. She obviously can play, she is not just pressing 'play'. On a side note I liked when the dog came and listened. My two dogs do the same thing. When I'm at my piano they come and lay down at either side of my piano bench!
  10. Thump15A, don't use subs anymore. I used to use passive Carvin 18 subs with a set of Carvin 3 way passive speakers and Carvin Amps. But for the gigs we do when I started with my current band I decided that hauling subs didn't really do much except kill our backs. At the small to medium in-door venues it was just over kill. The Mackies were the first iteration and sounded okay but I heard a DJ using the IP1000 speakers and was impressed that they could produce a clean sound and pretty impressive bass. So I decided that for 90% of what we do, smaller powered column speakers would be better. Its been a long transition from amps on stage, acoustic drums, heavy speakers and an amp rack that weighed about 250 lbs. The rack alone was a three man lift getting it in the trailer! Now I have a system that fits in the back of my Jeep Cherokee along with my keys and takes half the time to set up! I still own the Carvin gear and the Mackies are in the practice room. I never throw anything away. I figure when I die, my family will sell it all to "American Pickers" a long with my Indian Motorcycle!
  11. I rather like the quality, much better than the Mackie thumps we had been using! I use them on a set of mini-poles. They do have a wide dispersion similar to the IP1000. This mix is set exactly the same as the FOH but of course much lower volume. I like it because in our situation with electronic drums, everything goes in the board. So what we hear is what the audience hears. We run are own sound using wireless and an ipad to an XR18 mixer. For the gigs we do 100 - 250 people, this is the best sound we have ever had. We did the heavy speakers, huge subs and floor wedges and it was a PIA to set up, back breaking and the sound wasn't as clean. And of course the situation where you crank it for the rear and the front audience complains. We have contemplated using IEM system for monitoring but everybody is happy with the current setup. EDIT: If you look closely at my Avatar you will see the top of the IP1000. When I first bought them they we used exactly like we use the IP300 now. We liked the sound of the IP1000 so much more than the Mackies we put them out front and added the IP300s.
  12. My suggestions are Endust for electronics and the previously mentioned denatured alcohol
  13. I'm currently using them as side fill monitors with the IP1000 as mains. I am thoroughly happy with this setup. What I really like is they fill a room with sound without blaring. I can fully reach the back of the audience without deafening the front of the audience. I have had the IP1000 for 3 years and the IP300 for a year now. No issues except from time to time I have to put a little electrical contact cleaner where the column inserts into the base on the IP1000. I keep a can in my gig bag. I was on the fence about the IP500 but decided to go with the IP300 for my use.
  14. I appreciated the production and choreography. As such that was excellent. Musically it was 'Meh' , the only song I even remember from the hodge podge was the small bit of "Kashmir" they put in there.
  15. Actually besides the 5 'Favorites' for often used stuff its really not that difficult to call up a multi if you are in keypad mode. I have the 4 digit numerical address written on my setlist. I can change before the drummer can count us in. And after a while you begin to remember the numbers. The only problem is changing multi mid-song , but I rarely do that. I can also use the iPad setlist app to do changes. I would prefer the PC4 for the FM engine, more favorites and last but not least sliders. But the SP6 is a hell of a board for the price.
  16. My daughter and son in law are millennials most of the commercials fell flat with them too.
  17. I thought the Rocket Mortgage ad with Jason Mamoa removing his muscles was hilarious.
  18. Is the particle board only an 88 key thing? Because I had an SV1-73 for 3 years and do not remember ever seeing particle board on it.
  19. I got mine on Sweetwater when they were $799. Yes they have gone back up. I was looking at a Desktop model but got the one with keys when the price was lowered.
  20. For years I lived next door to a Berklee graduate. He has a business painting office buildings and homes. He taught for awhile but teaching didn't work out. I would hear him playing jazz trumpet to tracks from my deck, for the first couple years I thought he just played his stereo loud!
  21. I have a niece I raised in college currently studying art, actually animation. I didn't tell my children what to major in. But I let them know by researching, costs, job prospects etc. They are old enough to make their own decisions. What ever they choose I support them. My daughter was heartbroken by the fact she made more as a bartender than for working at a TV station. Her degree is in Broadcast Journalism. Over the last 10 or so years she has been a flight attendant, taught middle school English in South Korea and currently teaches online English to customers in China and coaches martial arts at an MMA gym in Thailand.
  22. One of us comes up with the chord chart. The guitar player usually gets his charts from some online service. Most times its correct, other times it will have me scratching my head. I listen to the song then by singing the melody I work out the exact chord voicings as best as I can. Then I will workout the specific riffs. I also go to youtube as a sanity check or sometimes insanity check. Some people shouldn't post! Some stuff on YT is so bad, but usually its pretty obvious when its correct. For example I got a text from the guitar player he wants to sing Phil Collins 'That's All', it took me about 20 minutes to work it out for practice tonight. I never played it before but I recognized the song right away. Now I just need to play the main riff enough to get it into muscle memory and work out the solo part.
