  1. Wraub, Thanks for the updates! Sounds like your project worked out so well that you now have a "beacon of wonder and delight" !!! :2thu:

Caevan, We haven't heard any "Ash the World Turns" news lately...any new progress on your project?

  2. Thanks for the info Caevan! Yeah, I do not like tinny! I don't use a lot of pedals but my one Keeley is definitely a cut above when it comes to quality in sound and no noise. I do like my Boss Compressor CP-1x for a clean boost. It can be set to almost no compression. I'm mostly a clean player but I do like having a boost for lead when playing with others. When playing solo, I do not adjust the volume settings as the leads are not available while doing chord backup. I have to fill the lead parts with chord work, little runs and arpeggios. I go straight into my Deluxe Tonemaster these days but back in my pedal days doing lead work, your suggestions would come in very handy (pun intended). I agree that most of the sound one gets is in their fingers and two players (switching off like Kuru suggested) can sound totally different using the exact same equipment...

I am liking the LP Jr with the single P90 bridge pup. I haven't really fired it up but did get a little wild with the amp down on 0.5 watts and the volumes all the way up sans pedals. I have to play with it more to see what I can do with the amp settings to see if I can get more of that Santana sound DBM talked about from a guy he heard using a Junior...

  3. WP, I liked the last setting with the Gibson humbuckers volume up clean at 5 o'clock, Gain up at 12 o'clock, Tone down at 7 o'clock. On the Fender with singles all 3 at 9 o'clock (which he kept coming back to) sounded good. I would like to have seen him with these two settings kicking the pedal on and off from his stock guitar settings. The pedal stayed quiet without any rushing noise at all settings which is very good for a gain/dist/OD type of pedal. I have used a dry signal from my looper to adjust pedals, amps and PA vocal and inst. channel settings. I wouldn't travel with it on a pedal board as it takes up too much space. Running a loop works great for standing back and hearing what the audience hears coming out of your speakers. As Scott pointed out, there would be a difference (live) if the looper was out of the line up. Guitar tone and volume controls can also make a difference as well, so a little info on the guitar(s) settings would have been interesting...
  4. WP, Since you got rid of your compressor, I won't make the following comment LoL! Back in my pedal days I discovered putting my old MXR Comp pedal in front of a Boss Distortion or Boss Blues Driver sent them into sustaining Nirvana...Worked very well with 3 different Strats with 3 different pickup configurations. I quit using pedals and became a straight in kinda guy so this concept is from memory. Hope someone out there chimes in that owns the same pedal as the one you have. Good luck and have fun with it!
  5.

A lot of my pedals do look very used!:D:thu: For a time, when I had no real income, I was in an occasionally gigging band where I- I... I used a large, odd L-shaped piece of plywood as a 'pedal board' and duct-taped pedals to it.:laugh::D:thu: And some of my most used pedals did get a bit scuffed-up.

It seems to me in my earlier memory banks, that you used a milk crate with your pedals tossed in it, before getting organized with the L-shaped plywood??? anyway, I always liked that milk crate pedal packing gig concept LoL! :thu:

  6.

I finally got my July & August issues yesterday, in plain brown envelopes. The last person I spoke with was going to try some workaround, in terms of getting them sent to me? Whatever she did, they finally showed up. I still have no idea what became of the others?

We'll see what happens to the mail when holiday season hits . . .

Good Karma Winston! Glad the missing issues finally found their way to your door...

Speaking of USPS vs. Private sector mail and Karma, The Amazon Prime delivery van pulled up this evening and left a package on my door step. The wife says "what did you order this time?" I responded: "nothing I know of, check the name and address on the box" Sure as sh*t it's addressed to my next door neighbor! I'll take it over to him later when he gets home from work...couldn't ask for better timing for commenting on this thread LoL!

  7. +1 Scott, I much rather hear her play a clean Harp. I like a clean guitar too LoL! I guess she could use her distorted harp sound for a movie sound effects part...

ps.To all that are still interested, here's some Game Changer Bigsby Pedal sounds I found on YT:

  8. That's great news DBM! Did you have your eye fixed to see clearly at a distance and wear glasses if needed for reading? That's what I'm planning to do when I have mine done. Maybe next year. My left eye is clear and my right eye is starting to get foggy with glasses. Glad your operation came out good so far and good luck on the next operation. The info you are giving on your recovery time is very helpful! :thu:
  9. Rest in Peace Charlie Watts...

The Rolling Stones have been one of my all time favorite bands since my teen years in the mid 60's. Your memory will live on forever. You were one major/member/drummer of the best longest performing rock and roll band to date...

  10. JB, Junior Brown created his walk up stand for his live performances in 1985. It holds his Tele on top and his steel guitar below that he plays upside down. One of my favorite country artists. I was going to look for such a commercial stand for playing my Dobro square neck the same way. It relieves wrist strain playing that way which Junior invented. Back in my keyboard days beginning in the early 80's I had thought about a similar guitar stand so I could switch back and forth from keyboard to guitar but never really found one that I would trust to hold a Les Paul and keep it safe from falling over from an innocent bump. I think it's a great idea for a lighter weight electric guitar and and for all acoustic guitars. Junior was not the first but definitely one of the best! Good luck in your searches! :thu:
  11. Thanks Winston, so far my friends homes are still standing. Homes out in the out back communities like Grizzly Flat and Omo Ranch have all been wiped out. I had a buddy at my house for two days and another buddy opened his house for 3 more of our friends. So far the fire has burned 62,000 acres with zero containment. We are finally getting fire crews and planes coming in after 3 days of the forest service let it burn policy and CDF taking over now...Thanks for the good vibes!

    Make that 73,000 Acres

  12. Update: On the Gibson LP static electric noise issue I solved 90% of the problem by grounding the pot cover plate (as advised in the YT video mentioned above). I used copper tape to do the grounding by wrapping one end around the ground wire to the bridge and looping the other flat end over the lip of the cavity, then screwing the plate down (already taped on the bottom of the cover plate) to make contact with the ground. Worked like a charm. I will practice soldering a wire to the copper tape before trying to do the switch plate cover as the copper tape won't stick to the switch ground good enough and it will need to have a small jumper wire soldered on one end of the switch and the other to the grounding tape on the edge of the cavity. I'm a happy camper with 90% of the problem solved. I will do the LP Jr. after getting to 100% on the LP.
  13. 'Dumb Questions"- ;) Are these the same kind of strings that were sometimes called "Silk & Steel" strings?

Do these have nylon plain/unwound trebles?

Are the "rope cores" mentioned above similar to typical Classical Guitar strings?

These all lie within a wing of guitar that I've very little knowledge or experience in...

Normally the 3 basses are nylon core with either 99% silver winding or silver plated copper winding. The 3 trebles plain/unwound are clear nylon with no squeak. The trebles will last a very long time whereas the basses windings will wear out much sooner and will let you know when it's time to change strings. The 99% silver is supposed to reduce squeak and the silver plated are supposed to get better tone. I run sliver plated polished basses which do get less squeak. I'm not familiar with rope cores. My cores are a composite nylon. It takes about a week for the plain strings to stretch in and only a couple of days for the basses to stretch in. You can now order them in 1/2 sets bass or treble, so I would order 1/2 sets in basses at juststrings.com and a full set if/when the trebles ever wear out LoL!

  14. +1 Caevan, That was a scam! RABid, There may be a player in your area willing to get together and teach you with some lessons. Run an ad or post a request on a social media site or at your local music store, bulletin boards, etc. Don't let one bad experience sour you on taking lessons. DVD lessons are available on-line until you find a teacher. I have a couple DVDs and can print TAB from them and can watch the teacher demonstrate how that TAB should sound. They also provide backing tracks to play along with... Keep at it and have fun! :thu:
