  1. The part of shlep weight I don't see discussed is getting gear into and out of your house/apartment. So instead of two moves, it's really four moves. Sure, some people might have garages, but I was never that lucky.
  2. Solo piano improvisation for self-evaluation recorded on N2 then transferred to computer via Zoom recorder. The counter melodies as whole tune was improvised. I ended abruptly as i thought I screwed up if I was on first or second ending. https://soundcloud.com/pete36251/beautiful-love
  3. Here's another take I've been formulating for myself as to how I can get more out of Barry's idea of playing 6th on 5th. It seems like it's his way to label inversions of a chord, in a way that makes them more easily accessible (?) when soloing in the heat of the moment (Again, this is an evolving idea.) Say I'm approaching a C7 chord. One way to think is a Mixolydian scale and its derivatives, my mind has always struggled with this academic method (I'm not knocking it and am getting better thinking this way.) So, with Barry's way, I see a Gmin6, I see that shape with a second on top, or I can see E-7b5 with the root being the 3rd of the dominant chord, or see the 3rd inversion, etc. I also can explore the academic idea, instead of Mixolydian, maybe I can think Locrian or min6 for scale ideas (I need to explore this more.) As I said in my first post, I try to add this practice to routine, this way I'm hoping my brain will make connections. I think it is best to work on all of Barry's ideas (1/2 rule, chromatic scale, 54321, etc.)
  4. I love exploring Barry's concepts. My motto on a lot of them is to take time at practice restricting my thought to playing through tunes and using this 6 on 5 for say 10 minutes (even if I don't understand why,) and eventually my brain will hot wire concept and then hopefully, it finds its way when I solo, or it gets discarded. I just enjoy learning new avenues of thought, hopefully some of them will help while I'm still breathing.
  5. I was listening to a Jackie McLean album and wanted to ask a question about pitch. I like him and have some of his albums (based on who is playing piano,) but his pitch hurts my ears. Even to my less than perfect pitch ears, he sounds sharp. Q - anyone that know Jackie's music and have a strong pitch experience trouble listening to people that play out of tune?
  6. That Vox stand from Fighting Gravity video is cool.
  7. When I played dance music/weddings, I preferred to play sideways, like I was playing a grand. I never cared for looking at the dance floor, if possible. This way is also how I prefer when video is taping.
  8. When I briefly owned a Casio Privia PX S3000, I bought a Reface CS to enhance lousy internal Rhodes of Casio. I didn't find CS to have a wide dynamic range (no bark.)
  9. I posted on Craig Andertons site but in case you don't check that out. UFO 2018. It free on YT. It's a math heavy smart engrossing film. I watched it twice and still feel compelled to watch again. No link, figure if you are interested you'll find it.
  10. Sure, every Weather Report album, Russell Ferrante solo on Out of Town on Four Corners, but the first thing that popped into my head was Hold the Line.
  11. I just watched this movie UFO. I believe this movie went straight to video and only started reading about it after it came up on my YT feed. IMHO riveting.
  12. I bought a Roland FP7 without playing it. I lugged that thing around for years. I really liked the acoustic piano sound (before Super...whatever.) I gave up wedding band/club gigs in 2009 and sold FP7 and I bought a Casio 320 Previa, unfortunately I hated the C. I then decided to search for a FP4 since I did like the acoustic sound and it was lighter. Here's where the Special Sauce keyboard get answered: The Roland FP4 had very expressive action, I still miss today. Wish I never went for FP7, could of saved my back a world of pain. I ended up selling it cause I didn't like the Rhodes sound and was determined to have a board with both a acoustic and Rhodes which was a spiral downward for a while when I decided to go Red (Piano 3,) but that a story I've told before. Anyway - FP4 was special. (Just thinking it was a time when I had a Boston hotel gig with trio for a couple of years.)
  13. Here's a ear cleanse from The Links version.
  14. I first used a reel-to-reel to slow down solos for transcribing, then it was cassette with the Marantz, which was a huge step up. The first computer app I had was the Amazing Slo-Downer and now I use Anytune Pro+. Apps changed everything cause they keep pitch (another huge step forward.) I wish I had all the learning tools I have today to make the tedious work of hearing and learning music. Besides the ability to slow down, having all real books on iPad, all the play along apps, YouTube, etc. This leads to my second wish, taking more seriously the importance of transcribing (whatever music you are into.)
  15. Too bad that it is a fake. There was another volcano in the recent past and there was live pics of people who were able to get very close it. Considering I found this on George Takei FB site, I would of thought they would of done due diligence. Hey, at least I didn't send my money to Nigeria.
