I hope you are not playing the China Grove bridge piano part in the bridge of Listen to The Music.. unless I am mistaken I think you meant China Grove.

stage presence, how do you deal with that as a keyboard player?
JohnH replied to Emiel Minnee's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I only sit for Doors or Santana gigs, because that is what Ray and Gregg did/does and I stand for all the rest. I just saw a video a band filmed of us for a promo NYE and realized I was staring at the set list in half the shots, so looking off to my left and down. Not good. It's not like I wasn't ready to play the songs either or have to do much button pressing to get to settings. I will make sure I don't do that in the future. Thankfully I am not the band's actual keyboard player so I saw in a finished version I am mostly cropped out and clips of their main guy are spliced into the video. One look towards the end of each song would have been enough notice for me. All my presets are memorized and easy to get to, so it's not like i have to stress getting ready for the next song. -
I've left it at the factory setting and if running that keyboard stand alone usually am running it through two DXR10s. I love it. Sometimes I use it on one keyboard gigs as one gig I have to haul the PA , guitar rig and this. People in all my bands love the YC as it was a new addition last summer. I go to play the Motif XF and S90ES organ sounds and then don't enjoy them like I used to. I usually tweak all these plus have layers so they were never factory stock that everyone always complains about. I made them better.

Utterly OT: Death from, eh, semi-natural causes
JohnH replied to David Emm's topic in The Keyboard Corner
That is like the guy last month who had his dog step on a loaded unsecured gun in the back seat of his truck and the gun went off killing the man. -
Bought and started reading the Sequential Circuits book after Dave died and the book was mentioned here. It's excellent. Have gotten it out of a back room and will start reading it again. It's really good. I get distracted and sometimes don't finish books when I first get them and always have so many going at once. https://www.amazon.com/Prophet-Silicon-Valley-Complete-Sequential/dp/1512198323

Billy Powell - Live Sweet Home Alabama piano track
JohnH replied to nursers's topic in The Keyboard Corner
This song and Hotel CA are two that cannot go one beat faster or it's very difficult to play. I have them in my phone tempo app. Bob Burns and Don Henley were not Neil Peart or Vinnie, but they had a great groove and served the songs well. -
Need a robust/road worthy 9-12v DC 1.0A power supply
JohnH replied to musicbysterling's topic in The Keyboard Corner
This why you pack spares in your bag, never leave home with one power supply. -
We had a drummer 3 years ago in my 80's band that seemed to be a pro at having an image and social media and promoting himself. But he played terrible! He would do exactly what you describe here, coming out of rolls and completely lose a beat of a measure and this is simple 80's stuff like Jenny Jenny and Blondie, not ELP Tarkus or Dream Theatre!

This is Easy. The guitar player should be playing the jazzy chords during the verses, so i pick up the main riff on Clavinet. I also do the horn stabs that come in out of the song on the top second board. This has worked in every band I have played this in for 25 years.

Just no. I like my logos. The strangest thing I've ever seen was someone who went through the trouble of removing ALL the logos off their $100,000 Porsche. I've seen it a couple of times. That is really headscratching. So you just bought a status symbol and it's one of the most iconic car companies on earth only to remove the logos? Don't get it at all. Definitely was not a car person. Looking forward to hopefully my fourth Porsche Rennsport this Sept, pending any big gigs that take place instead.

Midi 5 pin on/off - kill switch suggestion or work around
JohnH replied to Farfisakid's topic in The Keyboard Corner
When I do this on my rig I just go to the Utility menu of either the top or bottom instrument and toggle Midi to USB. Turns it off. Either do it on the CP4 or the other instrument. -
The Robbie Knievel death today really hit me- 60 years old. I just watched his excellent doc on Sunday-( you can find it free on Tubi- I tried renting it but it wasn't on amazon). So after, I was thinking of him all week , checking his website and social media and merch and texting people about the show and then he's gone just days later. Gut punch! Heavy smoker and drinking for decades too. Cancer. Loved those jumps he did in 99 and 2000 on Fox. He was brilliant, and better than Evel, I loved that guy! I'm wearing my Jeff Beck 2006 tour shirt on the gig tonight. Saw him with Jason Rebello on keys in 2006 and Vinnie on drums. I totally forgot about the shirt till today.

My first time being around spares was when I roadied for a well known keyboardist in 2002. That put the thought in my mind to start doing that when I could afford it and got a regular job. I have been doing that for many years now. I often see people say "but it's my only..." and they have nothing for the gigs they have lined up or had nothing on the gig they were on. Not a good situation to be in. Companies and servicers do not have loaners. On my gigs I always have two keyboards.
-
Don't forget also this is going to be the worst time of the year to expect anything to get to you quickly. Once the holiday season kicks in the delays amplify multiple times. Even just getting to my gig 45 miles away yesterday, that should normally be 50 minutes, it was 65 thanks to Holiday traffic. This time of year is the worst to try to go anywhere, it's just huge amounts of traffic because of holiday shopping and general holiday stuff going on.

Thinking about a YC73 but have a keybed question
JohnH replied to Paul Henry's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Some gigs I am carrying a guitar rig and pa and the yc61 is all I have. Even on that gig people are praising it. It really is great. The others too, people noticed how much of a difference it was compared to my Motif XF I was doing organ on. It cannot compete with the Motif on certain voices and layering capabilities, but the organ it is so much better. -
MODX+ Firmware Do not install MODX firmware to the +

MODX+ Firmware Do not install MODX firmware to the +
JohnH replied to JohnH's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Yes it won't damage it thankfully. Yikes, bricking w the wrong firmware that's not good! -
MODX+ Firmware Do not install MODX firmware to the +
JohnH replied to JohnH's topic in The Keyboard Corner
It just generates error messages. The firmware update window shows a little red "ns" -
FYI, if you have an MODX+ please do not attempt to install the MODX firmware to it. These are two different instruments and you cannot install the MODX firmware to the + it will not work. Only install MODX+ firmware when it appears on the + download page. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/modxplus/downloads.html This is the same as trying to install Montage firmware to the MODX or MOX firmware to an MOXF.

Emerson, Lake, and Palmer to reunite for upcoming tour.
JohnH replied to Mark Zeger's topic in The Keyboard Corner
He said no to the hologram , too creepy and they aren't good anyway. so they are on video screens instead. Thankfully even Dio's long divorced "widow" ended up canning that horrible hologram show, which was panned by most fans. That was bloody fake and awful! -
Keith was better when crippled with 7 fingers or so than most of us are with 10! The later videos I thought he was still good!

The second keyboardist is Henry Hey, who posted on his FB he was playing this week. I saw him on keys in 1995 with David Clayton Thomas and BST in the Bahamas. As far as i know this is not a "new E street " it's just people he got to do the show. He is going to bring a horn section on the road. But the rest of the Estreet band isn't changing.

Anyone know where I can get synth repairs done on Long Island, NY?
JohnH replied to Krakit's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Plus one on Corey, that's the only servicer on LI that I know of. -
Unfortunately NAMM is also now Long Beach Grand Prix weekend, instead of in 2 months. https://www.namm.org/news/press-releases/namm-announces-2023-2024-namm-show-dates
