  1. That makes no sense at all. You could knock more than that off an instore purchase of the RD88 unless Roland has created a "dont do this order" ROLAND just give us a simple stage piano for a reasonable price instead of this weird marketing tomfoolery
  2. Hoping they may have went tor a lightweight board but at 13.5kg its not as "weight friendly" as many of its competitors. Shame as they kept it slim but Smoke and mirrors. To me around 11.5kg is max id want to schlep. If anyone can build one less than that or a 73 / 76 note version under 10kg id consder to replace my current PX330 The cloud leaves me cold ever since they introduced it so thats a negative for me. That aside at 1700 Aussie dollars its not the budget keyboard they are trying to make out even though i generally like the feel of Roland pianos (not having tried this) so it doesnt even twitch the "bargain buy" nerve At least it has one midi din so that was welcomed that many competitors are leaving off. At 1700bucks I dont see this as a low cost stage piano in Aussie. Maybe a keyboard that came in around 1200 aussie bux fits that criteria but generally none of the competitors here are under 1500 bux. Its just the way the aussie market is kept artificially high. Roland could build a budet stage considering their pianos are better priced lets face it their software is payed for by now. 4 zones, decent sounds, midi dins. Lightweight under 11.5 kg and forget this clown stuff ohh i mean cloud stuff Was hoping they had hit a low price I'm finding new stuff here just isnt value for money leaving me considering only used stuff as Im looking for a weighted lightweight board that might replace my PX330. Maybe? To me in used the PX5s maybe the ticket although its new price is up there with the roland maybe 200 bux less. But at least they are out there used. Fortunately i have my semi weighted 88 sorted but was maybe hoping for an affordable lightweight hammer action 88 this roland isnt it.

  4. Exactly. I'm presently doing that for my new duo. Infact i was up last night charting a bunch of songs for a rehearsal today. I learn / remember more by charting a song than simply playing it. I sit at piano with song playing starting stopping it till i have charted every bar in "wrote". Including vocals where needed. Im A4 size intially Then i try to reduce its size down to that cut in half essentially A5 in portrait on my computer to print out. Next project is to convert all these paper charts to viewing on a tablet in A5 portrait. Just reading about tablets and e ink tablets last night. Another learning curve.
  5. Thanks Jose. Will look into that when workshop is setup. I just did a quick battery change on the new music room floor incase that was a lucky fix. Hopefully I'll have room for a few keyboards to be open so i may do the XP80s at the same time when my workshop is ready as there is enough bench space Ill keep you notified down the track It may be a while yet
  6. Hey Jose thanks for this thread. I just returned from a 12 hour drive with my old XP50 which had been stored at my brothers place for 9 years after almost leaving it behind when we moved interstate. Luckily he took it home for me. In those years the battery died and upon startup the display is low contrast and no sound emanates from the phones or outputs. I replaced the battery and did a reset so now its normal other than the no sound. i hear mostly XP50s usually have a very faint sound or crackling when caps go. Mine is totally silent. Its in almost new cosmetic condition which brings me to a wish to get it going again although i have 2 XP80s in storage with the red goo problem. But after 9 years storage these may also now need caping My question is before i look at capping can you think of other reason for zero sound not even crackling

  8. Yeah ive been looking at quite a few of this guys videos weeks ago. A few months before that i found he had a conversion tip for the 2x of making an in-line volume knob to mount externally on the left side. So i figured worth looking at a few more of his videos Originally I stumbled on him by googling for any one hacking / modding a 2x by mounting a left mounted volume knob inside or If the existing volume tone area is on a seperate board and could be moved to the left with a bit of modding Or perhaps using the volume pedal output to a fader mounted in the chassis on the left side This guy has interesting no bullshit stuff.
  9. Yes the ones I see through that link all show they went around 1500 Aussie dollars (thats around 1000 US dollars) I keep an eye as I have got one although Im hoping to hold onto my rackmount synths

This seems similar to a Suzuki keybed repair I once looked up which if i remember rightly was done with successive fulcrim pins within each key grouping Reason ive looked around at repairs is I have a Gem piano with similar problems. But i think i found reference it was one long fulcrum pin. Whichever it is Ill be attempting a similar repair

  13. Yes agree on this. The Numa is so light in compaison and as i said to you i quickly accustomed myself to it. Its certainly close to what suits me and the bonus of running my Alesis nano synth as a 2 zoned synth is appealing where i could only easily use it with the privia as a single zone as the Privia i not a good controller regarding midi program changes etc

Yes something ive considered but not doable if using organ as sliders are drawbars or adding a removable knob box accessing same via midi din or that same knob physically mounted in the left side. A fellow did that on a Numa Compact (not 2x) but as a filter knob. Ive even thought using the pedal input but using a knob or slider instead of a pedal. Should be an easy mod.

UPDATE: 3 years later...said in (that deep social media voice) wow..this thread is still accessable from 2009 and im still about to campaign a PX330 although i do have a lighter upstart waiting in the wings if needed Well as said above after I left the last band in 2021 and as I thought I'd probably given up gigging (due to crap health) i mothballed my Privia. After letting my dads Yamaha G1 go due to intended house move I started using my Kawai MP9500 at home so didnt need the Privia for home But you cant keep a gigger down and i continually looked for a suitable local duo partner or band. This took me 3 years in my locale but have found someone who i can gel with and who understands my health limitations. Rehearsals Sounding good so far. A year ago i bought a used but mint Studiologic Numa Cocal 2x as a 7.1kg lighterweight alternative to my 11.5kg Casio Px330. Will it replace the Privia? Well i hadnt played the Numa in the year i had it as we were going thru a 12 month house move. So recently i played with it enough to know I could handle its semi weighted feel in a band situation but probably not a solo piano / vocal gig. But playing the PX330 after a 3 year break instantly told me the Privia feels natural to me and I still love its feel. Recently i even picked up a Casio CDP-200R as for home use if the PX330 remains in its gig bag between gigs. The CDR feels good too although being made the next year I believe its keybed is a previous model keybed perhaps a 320 or older. So these older Privia keybeds still shine for me. But health wise carrying the Privia knocks the shite out of me. Enter the possibility of the Numa Compact 2x the good its easier to carry. Its keybed is acceptable for a semi weighted. infact better than most. Its sounds are good It beats the sustain on the PX330 which ive always been antsy about. It can access external modules which I'd add my minuscule Alesis Nano Synth once i find its power pack. It has drawbars...wow Even aftertouch It has midi dins which are disappearing so quickly Its incredible lightweight and sleek and i like the look and love the finish on the plastic. If you bend the chassis there is some flex but not under normal use. Why are you bending your's anyway. The bad The damn volume knob is on the right. What a stupid idea and a big let down. I dont use a volume pedal and rely on left hand tomfoolery to adjust volume. Please Studiologic move the whole tone volume section to the left. I have a physical mod i could do to put a volume knob on left If i gig it Ive heard in the hot sun the stickers can all curl off. Being in Australia this is a nightmare thought. Even though im in the colder south we have been going thru a heatwave last 3 days. I imagine gigging this keyboard now would curl my stickers and my toes. My duo partner loves doing outdoor gigs and the reason to have a lighweight board is for such long distance / difficult access to stage which is often a case with outdoor gigs The sounds cut out when changing programs. It uses spits instead of true zoning It doesnt have a music rest which the privias have Overal i like it and it may replace my privia due to heath reason but so far the Privia beats it for its piano feel. It just feels natural sitting behind it although i figure id get used to the Numa as i gigged a Roland A30 controller which has the same keybed in the 90s and so loved that keybed back then Summary. When I sat back at the privia after a long break it felt comfortable. What a marvellous feel for an old keyboard. At this stage the Privia is still in but the Numa is bouncing up and down in the corner saying "take me for a walk" like a "wanting" dingo pup.

  17. I go & paint model soldiers / model making which could be for hours (or less until my back complains). Or in the past restoring vintage cars (before health ended that) or any of my myriad of stupid hobbies. Once i get tired of that i jump on the piano for an hour or so and noodle until Im prompted to pull out some of my old repertoire or learn a new song. If i don't feel it i dont sweat it. Basically I've tricked myself into thinking im not officially practising anything just taking a break from my hobbies as I hate the thought of official practice time or formality. So to be honest unless i have a live situation coming up that im practising for I find I don't really get a big kick out of hearing myself play and sing. Between bands I'm easily swayed from practising. Or am I just a lazy bastard? I really need to be currently playing to audiences to make me commit to heavy practising of which once in a band I'm gung ho with heaps of practising and trying new songs and writing their charts (Infact far more intense practise then fellow band members i must say). Going from someone who's not that interested in practising to a rabid practise/chart writing wolf. The chart writing is important as it helps me learn the song. As your not gigging or studio working presently do you have a non musical hobby or pastime that could or does engross you for a while so that when you enter the studio your happy to noodle till something flows. Ive just formed/joined a new duo so im presently in my practising / chart writing phase where it's over shadowing my model making. We've got at least 70 to 100 songs to join together so i have 50 of his songs to learn and write into my chart style so its presently heavier practise for me now Basically can you use another hobby to make you feel when you sit at the piano its not a chore of regimenting yourself to a proper practice but a break from the other hobby This is a bit of an "out of the box" non musical solution / suggestion so im not sure if my explanation is coherent as I do tend to ramble on. (Unless Im making a joke). Hee hee
  18. My favorite actor who acts, jokes and plays piano is Leonard Joseph Marx Or Chico Marx to the masses. Man a talented fellow. I'm yet to see an actor who can match those 3 attributes. But offscreen he was a loose cannon with his earnings.
  19. At 100 buckeroos id think itd be worth taking the chance and if it didnt work out flogging it off. Re the PX350. I have a PX330 which i love the action. Ok maybe the 350 is slightly different as its more recent perhaps equivalent to the PX5s but not much different. I really think the PX5s pretty close to the 330 so a 350 should equate to a PX5s. The 5s can get a bit noisey / clacky they say but my 330 has not become noisey. Its been a blessing but i wished it had longer sustain on acoustic pianos. I believe a 350 rectifys the sustain limitation I recently picked up a Casio CDP200 as a spare board in the house which i enjoy playing. It was introduced a year after the flagship 330 as a cheaper piano in the range and is believed to have the earlier 300 - 320 feel???? One of our very knowledeable forumites prefers the 300 - 320 feel (He has huge experience with different boards which i respect his knowledge). I had i think the 300 originally and loved it but i must say when i got the 330 to replace the early 300 i felt no real difference or i cant remember feeling a real difference as it was so long ago. So i feel comfortable on any casio privia. To be honest any of these casios are nice feeling keyboards. Id feel more confident on pointing you to a casio i also feel more confident with its build quality Edit: SL88 is around 14kg i believe whereas my PX330 is 11.5 kg roughly and the CDP200 is 12 kg. Both have a pitch bend wheel but no modulation wheel The Casio PX 330 or 350 was at least twice the price of a SL88 if you need another formulae for working out bang for cheap bucks

  21. Yep i agree with Dave as your stuff is always interesting to read. My initial take was...and I'll quote a term from my graphic designer days "when in doubt leave it out" in other words You have deep concerns then don't do it But as others have said if you don't push yourself you may never grow. As someone said ..talk to the drummer. If he believes in you that's a good reason to think about doing it But suss out if he truly believes in you and doesnt just want to fill the position I'd say he probaly believes in you..
  22. If you're not in a screaming hurry and like to not get weird questions and no shows then test the market here in the classified threads. People here know what it is, they know what they want, and know what they'll pay. Only thing most wont be in your city. Put a price you think is marketable to proper piano people and see what interest you get for say 2 weeks. If it doesn't sell in that time try one of your local sites as people's ability to pickup or rather get picked up is essential when selling a piano. If you put it here first you wont have all the weird question you get on a local marketplace but if you need to address letting go quicker I'd go direct to a local market place and prepare for lots of questions and time wasters. For instance i sold my Yammie G1 on a local site (in Australia) after 2 separate tries. First time I put it up i got so many questions and not one visit after weeks of it being up. I even had it listed below half the value of a pretty one as mine had battle scars though still neat as it had history as an ex Redfern RSL Club piano from a Sydney venue that was at the time of its use Australia's Vegas show place of the 60s / 70s. My piano was probably played by many famous overseas people. my dad was the second owner. Anyway it didn't sell that time and it was a lot answering questions so I left it a year just 6 months before we were selling up and put the same advert up on the same site to have it sold in a few days to the first caller. Easy peasy this time. Try here then a local site for easier pickup buyers. I'll ad this. The lady after paying took a few months to pick up (as was agreed) as she was moving into a new house. But that was to my advantage in that i could still play it especially as she hired me to play an xmas gig for her family on it once it was relocated and tuned. And a year and quater later i have a second upcoming gig there on my old piano for a charity gig shes putting on so i still get to play it and may continue with more gigs on it over the years. Now this is a strange twist on a piano sale
