  1. I wonder if it will have the facility to trigger its organ externally over MIDI while playing its pianos from its own keys. Absolutely, and the currently available models* also do. The S9, S7 and J7 all share the same engine; on the S series, plug a suitably weighted class-compliant USB MIDI controller (or use old-school MIDI) and presto, you're playing the organ. On the J7, do the same with an 88 weighted controller, and voila, the same pianos as in the S (some variations may exist in the editing, check the manual for details before jumping to any conclusions or otherwise quoting me on this). * in these posts I am only referring to the S9, S7 and J7, not any other model, so please nobody make any silly statements that one of their other models sucks because it doesn't do this, or any other such stuff that often pops up around these parts lately.
  2. Agreed; the looks really grew on me as I sat at the keys. Not so big a fan of the grey on the S7, but the predominantly white S9 is very nice. Not sure when/if they'll change it... it's the same engine as the rest of the line (including the J7) so it's been that way for a while. They can definitely change it, but they may not have the same opinion of the organ/Leslie criticisms that we do... (Frankly I'd be pairing this with my Mojo61 anyway, so I'm less concerned about the organ than others may be, as I pretty much refuse to play organ from a weighted action. )
  3. Pretty good; 4 zones, each with their own assignments (pedals, wheels, faders, key range, etc). The motorized faders on the left side are all CC (assignable), velocity curves (I think per zone? Don't remember 100%). The amazing part of this, is the USB supports MIDI + Audio both directions... we had a laptop connected and Ableton Live 10 showed roundtrip latency of 4.8ms at 128 samples.
  4. It was running through a pair of Focal Shape Twins: Sounded amazing; the Twin has some great bass response, and are tied with Amphion as my current favourite studio monitors.
  5. While Action is a very personal thing (read any of the thousands of threads about the various Fatar actions around here ), Ill say this. Its amazing. Weighting feels really good, and its nice and responsive. Add to that the velocity curve options (7 different starting weights - 3 light, 3 heavy and normal - and a 5-point editable curve from those starting points) and it was amazingly playable. While Im far from the most amazing piano player, Ive been playing weighted actions since my Roland A-80 in the 80s, and Id rank this up there with my current favourite portable action, the Roland RD-2000. (redacted info about the Fatar model, it's not 100% "official" yet) Long story short I think the action is a real winner! And look forward to seeing it in other products as time goes by.
  6. Okay, I need to post this. I spent an hour this afternoon with the product specialist from Dexibell on the Vivo S9: If anyone has specific questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer; don't have time to do a full write-up at the moment, but I'll have some more time with it today (note that it's a pre-release prototype, the actual units won't be shipping until late August/early September). Apparently the Dexibell website will have S9 info a few days from now.
  7. Among other things, Lowry and DeRozan are friends and like playing together. dB That I knew... just don't really follow the game outside the Raptors highlights. Frankly, not seeing Kyle and DeMar in the post-game press conferences is gonna be sad.
  8. Most of the Raptors fans share that unhappiness. I don't know enough about the game or Leonard (beyond the headlines) to have a valid opinion, but my FB is blowing up with as much anger as Canadians seemingly can generate.
  9. Using Gibraltar parts to make a stand... yes. This particular model and/or price... don't think so. :idk Yes, the Key Tree has been discussed before, in amongst those threads. A dedicated thread? No. Read the responses above pointing out the problems with that particular configuration and you'll understand why.
  10. Discussed in 2014 and a couple of times earlier this year.
  11. I dunno; Mainstage is $39? A Kronos always sounds like a Kronos? VST/AU gives you way more flexibility should you need it, and some people do? I'd rather edit a Mainstage concert on my 15" laptop screen than try to do anything complex on the tiny font screen on a Kronos? I'm sure I can think of others, and it's not a diss at the Kronos or any hardware... you asked, I offered.
  12. Dude, if you wanna talk about your SysEx life in a public forum, I guess that's cool, but TMI To be honest, I've never had a situation where I needed to use SysEx in my Mainstage setup. I could see if I had to control a bunch of MIDI modules it would be an issue, but the most complicated thing I am sending to external modules is program changes. That's my point, as well. Sadly, others seem to find a lack of Sysex support to be beyond reproach. Hence my tongue-in-cheek post above.
  13. Yes, but WHAT ABOUT THE SYSEX?!?!?!?!?!? Ahem. Carry on.
  14. Damn, you beat me to it, David. This is 100% correct, and was discussed in the past here (although it's a brief mention in one of the AX90 threads, so easy enough to miss. It was shown very briefly on the Ultimate Support website, and some retailer sites, but no, it never made it into the real world. At the time (2011), the response from Ultimate Support was this:
  15. I couldn't immediately see which add-on you're talking about, and I haven't been able to find a feature comparison between Pro and Artist. Click on the "Compare Versions" link that's just underneath the big banner photo. It takes you here. That's a huge point in its favour. It's got the shortest learning curve of all current DAWs, both in my opinion and in my experience teaching DAWs to clients (I teach everything except Sonar and Reaper, FWIW).
  16. Presonus Studio One. Your MP3 requirements can be solved with an add-on from them for their Artist (mid-range) version, or is included with Professional. Definitely NOT a time sink.
  17. It pops with nothing connected to the inputs. Ive tested it with nothing connected except the right/mono output and it still produces a very short high pitched click. Try again, but this time answer the question being asked: What is it plugged into, and with what type of cable? Some example answers could be "It's plugged into my Behringer ABC123 mixer with an old coat hanger" or "it's plugged into my 1176 Compressor using gold-plated MegaMonstrosity Cables that were hand-soldered by virgin mermaids from Atlantis." Okay, your turn.
  18. What is the Vent plugged into, and with what type of cable?
  19. Yeah, with this, I'm out. Anyone else want to clear the fog for Grey?
  20. Grey, the Genos/Tyros are arrangers, meaning that they are suitable for "one-man band" setups. You pick a style, you pick a tempo, you play a chord and the band falls in behind you. The distinction between arrangers and workstations is that the arrangers come with "canned backing patterns" that follow the player. A workstation is a "build it yourself" model. Your analogy to guitars or basses falls flat because there's no equivalent to an arranger keyboard in the fretted world. If you had a self-playing Les Paul, you'd be in the same ball park.

  22. Let me save you the trouble. 1) Need a two-tier keyboard stand; lower manual nowhere near the "proper" position for appropriate dual manual play. Deal breaker for most that are considering the Mojo61 lower manual. 2) Another power supply to carry and plug in. Not so big a deal, but one more thing to worry about, and lose/break. Otherwise, sure, it's a cost savings, albeit mitigated by the possible purchase of a new stand.
