  1. REDCO has made all my snakes for me. I use their Snake Assembler page on their website. They are solidly built and last. My oldest one is 9 years old, and no issues.
  2. My Keylab 61MKii is my favorite aftertouch implementation of the boards I have/have had with AT. I have learned how to be expressive with it. On patches I don't want it, I filter it out in whatever hot I'm using (Mainstage, GigPerformer, etc..) Anther company that gets it right is Alesis, with their old VortexMK2 Wireless. That keybed is golden, to me.
  3. The only cell phone videos of us I don't like are the ones where the person is standing right up at the stage, so the phone picks up the audio of the monitor. Invariably, it is a 'horrible' mix, as far as FOH, as it's what the particular band member wants dialed in. When it's posted, it makes it seem like the FOH engineers has no idea how to mix, or it makes it seem as we have no awareness of how own instrument levels. Other than that, I enjoy watching us play.
  4. All good advice here. Something to keep in mind, and I see someone mentioned it. You may consider getting another Montage or MODX+ Most like the Superknob was adjust more than one parameter at the same time (the beauty of the Superknob). I make extensive use of that on my MODX+
  5. I have the iK B3X. Love it. I will use it live when it's the only thing I'm playing. For live use in the band, I use the CMC preset pack. It is wonderful within my band setting. He does some really good work with Mainstage/Logic sounds
  6. In my Journey Trib Band: I use Arturia Jup8V for the intro sound, and the body of the song. Until the pre-chorus part of the verse, the main Em D C part has a little slower attack and fast decay. Pre chorus and chorus is fast attack The intro tone is a bit different than the verse tone. So, I use my 88 note board, split, of course. Intro part up top, main body everything lower than that. The high Piccolo type sound during the breakdown, is a completely identifiable part of the song. I use my 61 note board up top, with it programmed on the lowest E to B. I use Arturia ProphetV, and dialed my own so it cuts thru I am using a little Dimension D chorus...very little, and slow rate on all. It helps fatten the sound.
  7. The one keyboard that always holds a special place for me was my original Prophet 600. It was a birthday present from my parents in December 1983. It introduced me to MIDI, computer music, etc.. I was 20..about to be 61 in 2 days.. Looking back I wish I'd kept it. I spent hours upon hours exploring synthesis, and this new-fangled (to me) MIDI. Hooked to an Apple 2E. Its that start that ingrained how MIDI works into my brain, and helps me do what I do today. Ahhh....good times <sigh>
  8. Like Sam and Dean Winchester...just trying to lure out the zombie/ghost so I can kill it
  9. This is old. GC emerged from Bankruptcy at the beginning of 2021. Side note: My local GC is one of the good one. Not very big, but fully staffed with long time employees who know their stuff. My good to guy in the pro audio/keys department has been there for 9 years and is in a management role. In addition to the 'beginner keys," they also stock, and have available to play, Nord, Higher end Yamaha, Roland, etc. Place is always busy. Your experiences may differ, but I am happy with my local GC
  10. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those. It's the same people over and over again, like clockwork, anytime Arturia has a new collection Whether it's $10 or $300, they complain.
  11. I use either/or depending on gig and venue. Often I use a hybrid.
  12. I'm also considering the duel wing setup. I have different rigs for different types of venues. We do a lot of festival/municipal style show during that season that could handle it. However, have you priced out the full ARC with it's stand and case????
  13. That is really cool. I'd love to try it out. I've been working on getting my hands on one of the single wings from the PianoArc people. Just because.
  14. Hey @Mike Martin , I figured you'd get a kick out of this, especially since you are very aware of my history with the board. I also figured if it good enough for our friend CMC to use in some of his Mainstage gigs, it's good enough for me In my use case, I will mostly be hardware based, with the MODX and PX-5S. The MODX will call the PX-5S registration when I tap the Live Set. There are also some things I do, that can only be done with Mainstage. This is where the simultaneous USB use comes in. Anyway, I am having fun!
  15. Most of you who know me here for the last 500 years or so, know my infamous Red PX-5S, that also took on some other hues over the years. I gigged with it for years, having bought it when it first appeared. It was solid, sounded great a,d work in hardware only, as well as Mainstage rigs. Alas, a few years , it began showing the abuse I gave it, and I had to retire it from my arsenal. 6 solid trouble free gigging years. Any issues I had were self induced. While I've had/have RD-88, Fantom-08, and a much too unwieldy too schlep around A88 MK2, part of me always missed my trusty PX-5S. Fast forward to this past Saturday. I am at my favorite local Guitar Center, where my 'guy' has run the pro-audio/keyboard area for years and know his stuff. I was tooling around in the keys room, checking out various boards that have in; a couple Nords, the new CK88, and some other fun things. When, out of the corner of my eye, I spot the familiar white/black keyboard. Yes, a PX-5S!! It is a used one. You know I know my way around this board inside and out, so I grabbed some cans, plugged in, and put it's thru it's paces. Perfect. Whomever owned this board must not have used it very much. Not one scratch, all keys are even, all factory registrations were there. Knobs and sliders were solid. My 'guy' let me open a couple of the little access panels on the bottom so I could shine a light in there. All good. So, yeah, I bought it I've been sitting at home setting it up my way. I am reminded why I love this board for how I use it. MIDI din In and OUT, as well as USB that can be use at the same time in various combinations within registrations. I saved my old thumb drives with my old setups, including the 'Alternate order' and some of @Mike Martin 's creations. I had to do a deep dive on one of my hard drives to find the MSB/LSB/PC list I created. It is now sitting under my MODX6+ at home. I am working to get it ready to gig in a couple weeks. Oh, to answer the question: NO this one is not getting painted. It will remain in it's original factory state. The old retired board in it's red state Only pic I could find of it's final color. A metalized dark bronze.
  16. The only issue I see is trying to read a critique of an instrument itself, good or bad, when the person offering the critique has a long history of expressing their like or dislike of any company as a whole. It's okay to not like a company, and to let others know.... When that part shows up, though, anytime a new product comes out, the review, good or bad, is already colored in the reader's eyes.
  17. I learned very long time ago with my first touch screen board that the first thing I do is a screen calibration. Glad you found it
  18. As others have said, Set List mode is your friend. It's also very easy to edit the set list screen to order them the way you desire. Scenes are also very good for those quick changes within a song. For example you can use the Scene within a performance to turn on or off parts as necessary If you are wanting smooth transitions from one sound into the next within a song, don't forget about the Superknob (which can be controlled by a pedal in FC2). You can morph from one part to another very smoothly. I make ample use of that in my setups. I have never used the Favorites so I am no help there. Here's a look at one of my gig setups My MODX is used as a master. When I touch the song, it also sends patch change to my Fantom -08
  19. Once again, Julius is not asking about the auto-shut off function itself. He’s asking if it’s normal for the on/off switch to PHYSICALLY move when the auto-shut off happens. @Julius D Majestic Studios My new Montage does not exhibit the behavior. I turned on the auto-shut off feature and waited. At the specified time, the Montage M powered down. The On/Off switch, itself, did not move.
  20. Last night we had a great show under the stars. Perfect night. Below the pic is a cool story. From a close friend of the band, sent to us this morning: Don't know if yall noticed me dancing and crying with a lady last night during faithfully. She had just lost her husband a few months ago. Journey was "their band". Faithfully was their song. You guys made her night. She's right. There is always someone in the audience that you guys touch). Love you guys Her message that she wrote to our friend late last night: This right here is everything to me. Peace.
  21. Just when I thought I was out…. Just ordered M6. Will be here Friday
  22. Not only that, the negative responses are from the exact people I knew they'd be from
  23. I really like this. He's not trying to do a spot on cover. He is a lot of fun to watch in concert.
  24. I downloaded a pack, I think from Narf, for my MODX6. It has a spot on, perfect 1984 patch. I have used it at a gig or 2 before Jump, of course.
