  1. reading all these threads over the years when "new" items are announced, it is very clear that every company needs to make keyboards that are everything to everyone.
  2. I see a lot of reliance on the excellent sci-fi movies and tv shows in many of these posts. While it may be nice to romanticize the idea that other intelligent life in the universe all sit around singing kum-bah-yah together, that's just us projecting. Who's to say other possible worlds don't "suffer" the same foibles as humans? Movies like, 'The day the Earth stood still," were metaphors for the times, which, granted, many of which do still apply. Conversely, what if other life in the unknown are like the Kanamits, and simply want to harvest us to eat? Going farther down this philosophical and theoretical rabbit hole: Pretty much every species that we've identified on earth and in the oceans operate on the survival of the fittest. Species have been killing for their own gain since the earth cooled. Arthur Clarke and Stanley Kubrick played it out in the terrific opening part of 2001:Space Odyssey, where the different sub species of apes would fight, with one dominating the other, until the "other" discovered using weapons (bones of dead animals) to beat to a pulp the others. Again, who's to say some other developed life way out there doesn't or hasn't experienced the same evolution, so to speak, as we mere humans. All this to say; when it comes to the "is something out there" question, I do not view it thru a jaundiced eye of defeatism, projecting any doom and gloom about us. My personal feeling is any so called intelligent life, that has developed the ability to explore the galaxies, must have gained that thru imagination and curiosity. That would be the driving factor to visit us. Yeah, at 60 years old, I am still that kid who sat and watched with wonder when Neil stepped on the moon 54 years ago. I get excited when I see the MARS exploratory rovers moving across hat desolate planet. That's the stuff of dreams to me. I've had the privilege to go down to Florida and watch a Space X rocket return to the launch pad. So yeah, I do think there's something out there. Whether we find out in what's left of my lifetime, I have no idea. My curiosity and enthusiasm for the answer will not diminish.
  3. This guy has got to be one of the most annoying presenters I've across. His quick cut style while he is talking reminds me of those old Sensodyne toothpaste commercials. The topic is very cool, but hard for me to get thru.
  4. A brand new Prophet 600 in the early 80's. My very first experience with MIDI, sequencing software that led me down the MIDI rabbit hole
  5. I found the listing. Whomever entered the listing mixed the CK61 and CK88. When you scroll thru the listing for the CK88 for$999, the picture is of the CK61, and down in the description it says 61 keys. On the listing for the CK61, it says $1499, is the picture of the CK88, and down in the meat it says 61 keys. I'm sorry this happened to you, but the $999 should have made you really look thru the entire listing. As far as Palen Music, I can't find where they have a presence on Amazon. Also, Amazon doesn't randomly list things for sale by stores without specifically saying that somewhere in the listing. For example, it might says "sold by Palen" "Shipped by Amazon" Lastly, I have never had Amazon NOT come thru when there's been an issue. I've had lost package, and a wrong package, and in each case Amazon took care of it promptly. In the case of the lost item, they immediately shipped a new one, before and without worrying about getting the lost one back.
  6. ZZOUNDS also has no listings for it. Musician's Friend/Guitar center only list used Krome/Krome EX
  7. I'm another who rolled my own. I use this under my Z-Stand, Gibraltar stand, or Keyboard Shell Not for use with column stands. Pedals are firmly attached.
  8. Well darn. I have moved away from all my old iLok needed items.
  9. One thing I've learned over the 30 or so years I've performed on stages very small to very large: If you/your band don't have a Spinal Tap moment now and the, you're doing it wrong. We played a very fun downtown show a month ago. We were given access to this very nice and secured parking garage for our vehicles. They escorted us there so they could use their badge to get us in, then told us just to take the elevator up to the street level exit door. We find the elevator....oh wait, it needs a key card to operate. Okay, we find some stairs, walk up a couple flights. Yep, doors require access cards. The one door we found that went outside was an alarmed door. We didn't feel like setting it off. So there we were, just like in Spinal Tap, running all over passageways trying to get out. I finally called the very nice woman in charge and explained the situation. We had a good laugh about it when she came to let us out. She apologized profusely that the new guy she sent to let us in had forgotten that no key card, no elevator It really was funny, and no one was upset.
  10. I'm headed over to my main GC where the keys department is actually good, and my guy, who is a keys guy, has been working for 10 years. Side note: my local GC has a great department for keys and other pro-audio. You can audition pretty much everything from a Williams to a Nord. And everything's plugged in.
  11. I'm going to try and find some time to go check out the CK88 tomorrow. A few GC's in the area got there's in stock now.
  12. About an hour after leaving home, my brain did a number on me, so I stopped and did the idiot check. Yep, not only did I forget a stand, I also forgot my bench. Oops. I wasn't going back home as I'd be super-late for the gig 3 hours away. Luckily, where I was, there was a Guitar Center I knew about. Wheeled in there, bought a simple 2 tier X stand, and an inexpensive drum throne. Made it to the gig on time for load in.
  13. Saw them in Vegas last week. It was fantastic. Dave's energy on stage hearkened back to when I saw them in the late 80's. Good stuff.
  14. I could anchor the entire 7th fleet with my old KS-32.
  15. Back to the original issue: It sure note that whomever is sitting behind the board, doesn't understand the concept of DO NOT TOUCH the monitor feed once they are set to you liking. We had a venue out here actually fire a guy as more and more bands started complaining about the monitors. Everything would be great. Then about half way thru things started changing. The guy's excuse was he figured it might be a better mix if he did such and such..." Arrghhhh. Luckily it's been the only place with venue provided sound and engineer we've had that issue.
  16. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. Lots of cool stuff going on there
  17. I got the update last night. It plays very nicely. Like the video, I played it from my A88-MK2 Good stuff, as always from them
  18. I would trade my RD88 for a CK88. I got the RD a while back as a lighter weight 88 note board to be used primarily as a controller, with great on-board sound as a fail-safe. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I really do not like it's MIDI connectivity. The CK88 wins that battle (for me) Now, as stand alone boards, I probably wouldn't trader my RD.
  19. Since I am the purveyor of stands, both factory and customized (by me), I just ordered that K&M 18800E and a 2nd tier The raising and lowering is something I've wanted to do for a long time. It'll be here Monday. I'll have a thread about it at some point
  20. FYI: You can buy the tri-bars separately if you desire. You can buy extra 13" or 18" I have 6 of the 13 and 4 of the 18, as well as some extras superclamps. Also FYI, the superclamps on the AX48 version fit the original Apex
  21. I must admit my original style Apex is much easier on a RnR cart since it has 3 flat sides, and not the rounded back of the newer Apex AX48
  22. I meant AX48 when I said APEX 40. LOL I'm old and names escape me. The AX48 is solid. In fact I used it on two gigs this past weekend, holding my Roland RD88 and Arturia Keylab 61
  23. Yeah the Deltex was crap. I still have and use, on occasion, the original APEX stand I bought new in 1987. Rock solid 37 years now. I also have the new version APEX 40 because I like the rounded back and the newer style superclamps. Also rock solid. My favorite Ultimate stand is the missile launcher style APEX AX-90. Bought new when they first hit the market. Also rock solid
  24. Since you brought up the RD88; the thing I have come to absolutely detest about my RD88 is the MIDI i/o USB? Fine. MIDI DIN? Not fine. the fact it's only MIDI DIN out drives me nuts. I have stopped using the RD88 in gigs where I need various control capability. Don't get me wrong, once I learned the deep dive of tone editing on the RD88, it's wonderful, and I love the keys. Just like my VR-09. Love the board, love the sounds. Not being able to send program change to it is a non starter for multiple keyboard gigs. As far as the "pro" comments: I've been gigging with these non pro, plastic Yamaha's for years: MOXF6, then MODX6, then MODX6+. We're not talking about gigs just done at the local watering hole. They hold up just fine. I've never broken one, never had a broken key (and I can get enthusiastic at gigs), never had a busted wall wart, etc.. My back thanks me I've learned to tune out when the terms "pro player," or semi-pro player" get tossed around KC. Lastly, just like was shown briefly in one of the videos, I could easily see having a CK88 under my MODX+6 for various shows. It would be nice, especially at all the upcoming throw and go festival shows we have coming. I've been using my RD88 on those, but the CK would be better, again, for me, and the way I setup my live rig. On shows where it's just us, sure, I can bring out the heavy boards where I have all the time I want to setup, and I do. Anyway, I've added another $4.35 to my original $2.50, so now that's my $6.85 take on this topic
